February Birchbox

In what has to be a new world’s record, I received my February Birchbox today. Never have I ever received my Birchbox before the contents of it were posted to my account online.

The Box

You have no idea now excited I was to totally be spoiled this month. I had been stalking my account to see if it updated and I totally thought the contents would be posted before I got my box – since it wasn’t scheduled to arrive till Monday. When B got the mail today and pulled out the pink Birchbox, I was PUMPED!

First Look

This month’s theme was “Red Carpet Ready”. In honor of all the awards shows this month, Birchbox has put together “an assortment of products worthy of the red carpet”. Whatever your red carpet event (a big work presentation or your best friend’s wedding, Birchbox has you covered.

The Information Card

Okay, now here’s what was inside:

~Beauty Protector | Protect & Detangle ($5): This is a yummy smelling leave in conditioner that “locks in color, adds shine and instantly detangles” – among other things and I can’t wait to try it. It’s totally new to Birchbox this month, so I was excited to get it in my box. However, the card says that the full size is $21.95, while online says it is $10.95. And I cannot find how many ounces are in the full size or the sample I got anywhere? I totally guessed that it’s worth $5. I estimated that the sample size is 1/4 of the full size that’s really $21.95. Pretty scientific huh?

~Jouer | Matte Moisture Tint ($1.56): While I LOVE tinted moisturizer and am I excited to try this, I don’t think Jouer is doing themselves any favors with these tiny samples. I mean how will I know if I like it enough to buy an entire bottle? I mean, I think I will, but still.

~Kiehl’s | Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream ($7.28): Eeeek!! I was most excited to get this in my Birchbox this month! I have seen others get Kiehls products, but I have never gotten any. And this is a BRAND NEW item from Kiehls, so I am even more thrilled. If it really can reduce wrinkles, I am buying it by the truckload. Oh and the card says it’s $52, but the website says $48. Birchbox is making me work this month! On Kiehls.com it’s $52, so I am calculating my price based on that. No clue what’s up with the differences this month.

Kiehl’s | Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream

~Oscar de la Renta | live in love ($1.38): This is an “elegant floral” fragrance with notes of “hyacinth and orchid over a rich base of sandalwood and cedar”. And while I don’t love it like I loved last month’s fragrance sample, I do like it. A lot more than I thought I would actually.

Oscar de la Renta | live in love

~Ghiraardelli Milk & Caramel Square ($.50): I know some people dislike food in their Birchboxes, but I feel like you can’t go wrong with a piece of chocolate can you?  No.  The information card suggests you bake it into a cookie for an added treat.  Umm, why didn’t I think of that?  Done.

Ghiraardelli Milk & Caramel Square

All totaled, my February Birchbox is valued at $19.72 ($14.72 for the contents, $4 in review points and $1 in points for buying the box (*)), not bad at all considering that the subscription is only $10/month!

Did you receive your February Birchbox yet?  What’d you get?  Don’t get Birchbox?  That’s sad.   If you are interested in getting a fun pink box in your mailbox every month click here to sign up or learn more!

(*) This comes up every time, so I’ll explain why I count points for paying for the box. If you just get a month-to-month subscription, you get 10 points or whatever when you first sign up. BUT, if you buy an annual subscription, you get 110 points (12 months = $110). So basically, not only do you get one month free, you get $11 in Birchbox bucks too.

  1. Oh my gosh I’m so jealous you got yours today! Mine says it shipped, but I’m not expecting it until the 13th. Siiiggghhhhh.

Wowsers that was fast. I got an email today saying mine was snowed in so it would be delayed. 🙁 I just looked online and I’m not updated either. I can’t wait to see what I get this month.

I was just trying to figure out which box I’ll be getting, but since it isn’t up yet, I guess I’ll wait and see. After checking my shipping info, seems my box is a couple of towns away. Yay! I don’t usually get mine so early either. I like your box!

  4. Jaime

Oh man! I just posted my January review. Mine was scheduled to ship tomorrow, but I got the snow email too. Bummer!

Mine came today too! Long distance high-five! Looks like we both got good boxes this month, although I definitely would have preferred an Oscar De La Renta perfume to my Couture La La!

  6. Cathy@Five Boys

I got my box yesterday too (totally shocked!) and it is the same exact one as yours. I couldn’t wait to bake my square into a cookie though and just ate it!!

  7. Denise

Haven’t received mine yet. Although I hope it contains the wrinkle cream. I’ve seen Kiehl’s before but though it was too expensive. What better way to try a high end product for less than $10? And if you hate it, you’re not out $60. 🙂

I was disappointed in my Birchbox (same items as yours) this month. That silly, not-even-0ne-application Jouer sample is insulting. And why they consider chocolate “Red Carpet Ready” is beyond me. Not to be overly grumpy, but nothing in this box makes me feel red carpet ready…. oh, maybe the fragrance. I dunno… with a red carpet theme, I might expect red lipcolor, smoky eyeliner, sparkly nail polish, something other than wrinkle cream and hair detangler.

I was so excited about this month’s box after seeing the teaser video. My 41st b-day was last week, so I was looking forward to a little gift. When my box arrived today, I wanted to cry. I seriously hate it when people complain about their subscription boxes, but here I am…I know it was only $10, but this is the second month that I feel like I got their 2nd rate box:( I did get a cute green nail polish and a little bb cream, but otherwise, a packet of styling cream and an exfoliant. I would have loved the Kiehls (or the embryolisse last month), a lipstick, the hair protectant…
I love Birchbox and all of my other boxes, but 4 items that weren’t se great left me bummed.

  10. Anna

I got mine today, it’s my first-ever Birchbox. My items varied a lot from yours. I got a Juicy Couture fragance, some Hot Mama blush, Tigi root booster for my hair, and some Dr. Jart+ Beauty Balm. Oh and of course the chocolate. Overall I am very pleased!!

Hi this is kinda of off topic but I was
wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with
HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding expertise so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!
