A Poll: What’s your LEAST favorite household chore?

Disclosure: If you make a purchase through the links posted below, I may receive a small compensation. Read the full disclosure.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
No question, my total least favorite chore of all times is vacuuming. I cannot stand dragging that annoying thing around the house, emptying the canister and having that crap fly everywhere, I just hate it all. Laundry is high up there on my list, but that because it takes so long (I only do it once a week).

We used to have a girl, oh how I loved her, that came over and cleaned once every two weeks, but we realized that we don’t need her anymore (since I don’t work), so we stopped having her come. She actually liked cleaning a lot, which I don’t and B doesn’t either, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Plus, I do love a clean house ;).

So what’s your least favorite chore? Windows? Floors? Bathrooms? What? And what don’t mind you doing? I don’t really mind dusting and mirrors and really anything I can SEE getting clean. Oh and in an update to what is now the most popular poll on here to date, it appears that there is no real answer to how often people wash their sheets. The results were split between once a month (33%), once a month (30%) and once a week (29%). I was surprised there is no real standard on this. I am guessing there is going to be a clear winner on this poll. Maybe. Just go answer.

There should have been an ALL option too!

  2. I wasn’t able to pick more than one, but bathrooms, floors and vacuuming are my 3 most detestable chores… We have wood floors throughout our house and no grass in our front or backyard so the dog brings everything imaginable in on his feet… If I don’t vacuum or mop once a week, the floors become an unmanageable mess and its a nightmare to try and clean them up! I want to try and get really big area rugs for the most popular parts of the house so that the baby is not crawling in yucky dirt all the time, but the ones I want are $800+ each and Tim will only open one credit card at a time… We will get there, it will take a little longer than I would like but it will all work out!

What about laundry? It is absolutely my least favorite. It all just gets dirty again. So soon.
I *try* to wash the sheets each week. Sometimes it gets pushed to 2 weeks.

  4. I hate cleaning bathrooms. There are too many nooks and crannies and I wish I could just dip the entire room in bleach.

  5. Maggie

I chose dusting but I skimmed through your choices and saw Bathrooms when I hit the ‘view votes’ button. I JUST cleaned my bathroom and I hated it! It takes forever! Maybe if I do it of frequently it wouldn’t be so bad. I’m just so lazy when it comes to chores.

On a different note, I signed up for Barkbox through Fab.com plus I received a $10 off coupon from Barkbox (I think for my birthday). Buddy (my dog) will be excited to get his first box! Wish I would have snagged the Groupon AND used my Ebates! So much to remember!

It’s kind of funny how different everyone is with their hatred for certain chores. I hate dishes (with all of my heart) haha! But I actually, strangely, enjoy vacuuming and laundry! I think it’s only because I love the smell of freshly washed things… and the fact that we have an awesome vacuum! 🙂 All chores just kind of stink though!

  7. Monica

Dishes!!! Hate doing dishes… we have no dishwasher.. I work nights and come home every morning to a sink full of crap… sigh. But they must be washed…

  8. Krista

I love to clean. I’m especially crazy over lavender PineSol (which may be how I found this blog…or what is a review of a subscription box? Can’t remember).

I don’t enjoy doing my floors b/c I hate to mess with the mop and they seem to take forever to dry.

I’m addicted to making things clean and pretty again.

I don’t mind doing the dishes, or the laundry, or even vacuuming, but I hate washing the windows. Thank God it only needs to happen a few times a year (or less *blush*)

  10. Alexia561

Am surprised that others don’t share my hatred of washing windows! I wait until we can’t see out of them before washing, as I really, really hate it. And I don’t mind vacuuming or laundry, but what’s dusting? lol

  11. Stephanie

I have three boys (plus a husband) so I HATE cleaning bathrooms! How are they so messy?

  12. Ellen A.

I actually don’t mind bathrooms… I’m a weirdo. I hate vacuuming tho! I don’t mind laundry, except the whole folding part. If there was some way for it to just go from the dryer to my closet, I’d be set!

  13. Karen

I chose the bathroom, but in reality, it’s just the tub I hate to clean. The rest doesn’t take so long, but that tub takes awhile to scrub.

  14. Sara

Bathrooms, definitely bathrooms. Laundry is a close second, but luckily my hubby is very good at doing it. 🙂

  15. Mom

I hate vacuuming so I voted for that, but if grocery shopping was on the list I would have voted that.

  16. Jenny

I totally agree vacuuming is my most hated chore and I can’t tell you the last time I’ve done it. LOL I would rather clean the bathrooms then vacuum.

  17. Michelle

Bathrooms! Hands down…..bathrooms. In fact, I think toilets are a necessary evil. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the fact that we have them, but they are SO gross to clean!!

I am also a stay at home mom now, I don’t mind doing the dishwasher and sweeping, but I hate the bathrooms and floors. I broke my foot 6 weeks ago and could not help with any house work. My hubby finally decided that it was to much and I said, “No kidding, now you realize how hard it is to do it and take care of the kids.” My husband finally decided to use our neighbors cleaning lady for the time being. Let me tell you for $40 every two weeks for someone to come and clean my bathrooms, and floors (plus the rest of the house) totally worth it to prevent the arguing about who is going to clean what. When my foot is better we will continue to use the cleaning lady. I said if I had to I would opt out of one of my weekly target excursions if necessary. Lol

I hate bathrooms! I make Erin clean them. 🙂

  20. Norma

I have so many chores I dislike… But the one I really despise is my wood floors… They require a ton of maintenance to keep them looking good. And it never fails with 2 dogs, 2cats, & 2 kids they look dirty an hour after I clean them.

  21. Aimee A

I chose laundry…. I work in a factory that builds washers and dryers… I look at them all day… Then comes laundry day! uhhh, but my #1 thing I hate are dishes! I do have a dish washer, but I still hate them! Everything doesnt get super clean in there! I actually love vaccuming! Maybe just because I love my dyson, and I am always shocked at how dirty the carpet can get!

  22. Dianne @ Skinny Seahorse

    All of the above!

  23. Ashley C.

I hate dusting. So much so, that in fact, sad as it is to admit, I don’t do it very often. Like … people have to get on me or I have to see a big pile of dust lying around before I’ll do anything about it. Luckily, none of us have a dust allergy. I dont mind washing the laundry … but it does sit unfolded for awhile before I break down and do that, too. Except the kids clothes. That goes away immediately. I dont mind the dishes or vacuuming, and bathrooms aren’t so bad either — especially since I cleaned hotel rooms one summer after High School to earn some money. THAT was gross!

  24. Alison

I am shocked that so many people don’t like vacuuming! I bought a really nice vacuum and I LOVE to vacuum. It’s like way easier than sweeping. You can see your carpets are clean because of those vacuum lines.
I am glad most people are with me… bathrooms are the worst. Thankfully in my house I have my own bathroom, and my boyfriend has his own bathroom. I clean his like once a week or every other, and it’s awful… but at least I don’t have to use it all dirty.

  25. Lorbeth

I hate cleaning the bathroom, especially since I live with a bunch of guys. & besides, it’s their turn to clean it. I enjoy vacuuming but hate the sound. And doing the laundry only sucks for me because I do my boyfriend’s and it literaly takese a whole day because I only do it once a month.

  26. Kelsey N.

I’m not a big fan of cleaning the bathroom. Thank goodness I only have 1 to clean though. I do like vacuuming and putting away laundry…except when it comes to sorting socks.

  27. Val

I’m so lucky that my husband does all of the vacuuming (and does it often). Once I tried to vacuum when he was gone and we’d had our new vaccum for about a year and I couldn’t figure out how to turn it on! I do the steam mopping, we do our laundry separate (for now – will prob change with kids), he changes/washes the sheets and towels, we each clean our separate bathrooms and he cleans the 1/2 bath and dusts more than me. I do 90% of the cooking usually, but if I cook, he does most of the cleanup and almost always unloads the dishwasher. Sadly, if he cooks, he still does most of the cleanup (but like I said, that isn’t frequent and is usually because I’m not home or something). I benefitted by him being raised by a single working mother for most of his childhood.
