Thursday Thoughts

~The weather here has been amazing. OMGSOAMAZING. We spent the entire day outside yesterday (save for our Target trip) and it was just so nice. Is Spring finally here? I mean, I even broke out shorts for L to wear to school. It was that nice. And I was able to drag the boys out for a nice long walk (drive for L) in the morning. Today we are headed to the park to look for treasure. Honestly, this nice weather makes me feel like I am on vacation. Please don’t let it snow next week or anything crazy. PLEASE!

Enjoying the sun

~Since no less than a dozen people have mentioned it to me, I am going to mention it to all of you.  Target is offering a Beauty Box for $5.  You can buy it here.  It’s supposed to contain various samples (La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo, Fekkai Glossing Cream, Gillette Venus and Olay Razor Pack, L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream and Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips) and will ship in 4-6 weeks.  And believe it or not, I am NOT ordering it.  LOL.  I don’t know why, but I am just not.  It’s kinda like ipsy.  I am sure it’s an amazing value, but I’m not overly excited about it.

Target Beauty Box

~Does anyone else feel like they need “fresh” flip-flops every year?  I loved my Sanuk’s last year and want to order another pair, but is there something else I should know about?  A new fun brand that doesn’t cost a fortune?  What flip-flops do you wear daily?

~So I don’t know if I have ever mentioned it, but we are in a different school district than the district I want L (and WB) to go too.  It makes no sense because the district we are suppose to go to is about 20 minutes away, while the one I want him to go to is within walking distance.  So I am curious, does anyone know anything about trying to get something rezoned?  Who do I talk to first?  The city we live in?  The school district?

~In box news, I am expecting Stork Stack, Julep and Birchbox Man today.  I am super excited for Stork Stack because I have no idea what’s in it!  I mean, I am excited for Julep and Birchbox Man of course, but I know what’s in those ;).   I think that’s all I am expecting this week?  Can it be?  What are you all expecting?

It is SO nice here too. We even contemplated turning on the air conditioning. Just shut the heat off and ready for A/C already.

I know around here they have lotteries to get into other schools…I wonder if that is just a GR thing? I just heard a commercial on the radio for it (which I thought was kind of odd, but whatever) where you can get in a lottery for your kids to go to a different school. Is the entire state a school choice state?

I wear Rainbow flip flops and LOVE them, I usually buy the doubles but got a pair of the flirty braids last year in the single and they are just as comfortable. I also got a really cute pair of Crocs last summer that are super comfortable (http://www.crocs.com/crocs-capri-iv/11211,default,pd.html?cid=28M&cgid=women-footwear-flip-flops) I’m so happy that it’s flip flop weather again.

I don’t know about rezoning but you might be able to make a case to have them attend that school by just petitioning the district. My oldest is in a special autism inclusion classroom at a school that isn’t our home school because our home school doesn’t offer it. The school he’s in is actually a little closer to us than our home school, go figure, and we’ve successfully gotten our youngest in there as well just by submitting a request to the school system. Granted, we’re in NC so it might be a lot different where you are.

  3. Some districts take out of district kids because they get money from the state per student. It might be some kind of lottery if they do.

I am not sure about re-zoning, but depending on the state you live in, you may have school of choice. In Michigan where I am at we do the school of choice, as our public schools quite frankly suck.

  5. Mom

Love the pic of WB and Buddy. There’s no way the district losing households to another district would ever go for rezoning, they’d be losing thousands of dollars per student.

I love Reef flip flops. I discovered them in Maui on my honeymoon over 15 years ago and have not bought another brand since. I live in mine…they are so comfortable. I’m wearing them at work right now. Luckily, we don’t have a dress code. 🙂

  7. clarisse

can’t go wrong with Havianas!!! best flip flops!

  8. Kyra

I love my Teva’s sandals! I found them on Amazon and got the Teva Mush Adapto in black and a brown pair! Super comfy!

In my school district you can apply for a special assignment request to go to a school other than your zoned school.

This weather is awesome, don’t talk about snow silly…you might jinx us!!!!
I always seem to hold on to a pair of flip flops from the previous year but since I started getting “older” I find a pair I like and I buy a whole bunch and put the ones I don’t use away for the next year. I just love the dainty Roxy flip flops, and the Tommy Hilfiger ones I seem to find at Marshall’s every year are not super stylish but so incredibly comfy its unbelievable!

Same exact situation with my son. We filed an intra-district transfer through the school district & he is at the school we wanted 🙂

You know I actually thought about ordering the Target beauty box but two things held me back…the fact that they used to send out beauty bags for free & although they say it’s premium samples a part of me still feels like I’m paying for what was free before &…the form on facebook just looks so shady…I think I will hold off too

I love Havianas and I am hoping to get some new ones… I live in those over the summer…although last summer I wore my Toms all the time and I want a new pair of those too..haha

I would contact each school district first. I might be that the lines are just really old, and will be updated soon. If the district you want to transfer into has fewer students, then you probably have a better chance? Our city has 1 school district, and is pretty strict about indistrict transfers, but if you are persistant, you can usually make things happen.

Also if the specific school you want him to attend is a “better” school with higher demand, you might have a harder time :-/

    good luck!

When I grew up I went to a school district and literally across the street was a different school district. The school district I was not part of had open enrollment, so it was as easy as contacting them. Once that was done and I was accepted, my mom worked it out with the school district to pick me up on the bus, I just had to be on the other side of the street. Don’t know if this helps, but if open enrollment is an option just contact the school district main office and talk to them.

Reef flip flops and Rainbow flip flops are the best things ever! Reefs are a little cheaper and the most comfortable things you will ever put on yor feet. And they have so many cute styles and colors!

  15. Kristie

Call the school you want your kids to go to and see if they have open enrollment. Some districts open up if they have availability…it may mean having to do it every year or it might mean that once you are you are set, but it can’t hurt to check with them.

I couldn’t resist the Target beauty box, so signed up for it yesterday! Can’t wait to see what’s included!

  17. Debbie

Hi Jennifer, check with your state and see if they have, school of choice or interdistrict transfer. The interdistrict transfer is thought the schools, and the school of choice is from the state because of no child left behind laws… Good luck.

  18. Jenny

I bit the bullet and ordered the Target bag. I actually did it before I saw the spoilers but I’m usually happy with the free bags they send so I’m curious to see how a paid version stacks up.

So sorry about your school district. We can’t really cross districts here but if its just a different zoned school then there are ways to do that. We are zoned for a year round school and that’s what we want so N is going to our base school. Orientation was last night and I’m so not sure I’m ready for kindergarten. 🙂

  19. Viv

I got my Julep box on Tuesday night and I still haven’t opened it. I wasn’t excited about this month because I was hoping for something more spring/summery. Blah.

  20. Jennifer

I wonder if the Target box is the beauty bag that they used to give away for free, but its not in a box and $5.00! Anyway had to chime on the flip flop questions as I am from California and live in flip flops and have worn every single brand out there…well fashionably speaking! I am a Havianas girl! They are hands down the most comfortable, don’t require “breaking in” and they have the cutest colors, designs, even ones with bling!

On a different note, I have been reading your blog for sometime, obviously love it, have “ramblings” I would love to share, got myself a name on blogger and for the life of me cannot get a background or get things going. I feel pathetic as I thought I was computer savvy. Any suggestions? When things do start working I am Mama Explains It All!

  21. Alice

Check out Teva.com for sandals. They are super comfy, great colors and a little cheaper than Sanuk!

Love your blog btw, you crack me up! =) Keep it going! oh and pls don’t get rid of Instagram!

    Cheers!

  22. Kathy

Reefs are the best flip flops. So comfy! I’m resisting the urge to add to my collection this summer. 🙂

  23. Sophia

I discovered Sanuks 2 years ago and LOVE them! Nothing beats their comfort!! *however* if you wanna go for cheap and comfy and trendy you can’t go wrong with Havaianas!

My little sister, a high school senior, has been going to a high school out of our county for two months. If caught, she would be immediately kicked out (I doubt they’d do it this late, but we’ve had a couple of run-ins with the administration). If your school districts are as strict as ours down here in Florida, your best bet is to just find a friend who lives in your desired county and switch your address. They’ll probably require a light bill/other bill for proof that you really “live” there. Good luck! I’m sure it won’t be too much of a hassle for you, since your boys are so small. I know it was a pain and a half for us, though.

  25. Sarah

Have you ever tried Fitflops? I bought a pair a few years ago because I wear flip flops basically any time there isn’t snow on he ground. Actually, if I could just go barefoot, I probably would. Anyway, I bought the Fitflops because I know how bad for your feet normal flip flops are, and I wanted something with some arch support. Added bonus: they work your butt muscles while you walk. They are a little pricey, but totally worth it. Check them out!
