First Look

Not only was this box big, but it was heavy as well. I wasn’t overly familiar with PrettyFit before I received it and I had no idea what would be heavy.

The Information Card

The September 2014 PrettyFit theme was “Your Healthy Protein Pack”. The box was curated by IFBB Pro Amy Updike and includes her favorite protein goodies and a few of her favorite workouts, recipes and training tips. Here is what was inside:

~Her Whey by NLA for Her ($44.99): This is what was making the box so heavy! It’s a full-sized protein designed specifically for women. It can be used post-workout or as a meal replacement. I don’t love drinking my meals, but every once in awhile I am in a hurry and will do it. I can probably find more information about this on their website, but I am curious what about the blend makes it designed just for women? B was curious too. It says something about the men’s products being too strong for most women, so maybe that’s it?

~Protein Mini Assorted Six Pack by The Protein Bakery ($12.50): These came in three flavors (Black and White Blondie, Chocolate Chip Brownie and Peanut Butter Brownie) and B and I both agreed that the best was the Black and White Blondie. They are 100 calories per serving and are packed with 4g of protein. I was surprised at how good they were. I was expecting, well, I was expecting them to be not good. I was wrong!

~12oz. Buttermilk Protein Pancake Mix by Flapjacked ($11.99): We have had these in the past and have always liked them. They pack 17 grams of protein per serving and are very filling.

~High Protein Coffee by Chike Nutrition ($5): This can be mixed with water or milk and enjoyed anytime you need a caffeine boost. I haven’t tried it yet, but when I do I think I am going to blend it all up instead of just drinking it over ice.

~Double Chocolate Chunk Bar by Quest Nutrition ($2.39): Quest Bars are good, but expensive! I don’t know if I like them better than Chocolate Peppermint Stick Luna bars, but they are much cleaner and more filling.

~Honey Almond Protein Cereal by Kay’s Naturals ($9.99): I’ll admit that I like to eat cereal as a snack instead of at breakfast time (and I eat it dry) and this is a much better choice than some of the cereals I like. LOL. It’s pretty tasty too and I like that it comes in individual little bags.

~Top Secret Nutrition Shaker Cup ($4.19): Shaker cups get lost and icky and we can always use a new one around here.

All totaled I came up with a value of $91.05 for the September 2014 PrettyFit box.  I was really impressed with this one and thought it was very well curated and provided a great value for the price.  It’s possible this is my favorite new fitness box!

The Chike Coffee protein is good! I drink either that brand or Click (my favorite!) every day, just over ice and water. Its so tasty it doesn’t need blending like some of the other protein powders.

      That is good to know!!!

Men and women can take the same type of protein powders, that company is probably just relying on snazzy (and pink, way to perpetuate gender stereotypes) packaging to lure in women because apparently we’re more interested in shiny things than the benefits of using protein. Sure, women in general need less protein than men in general, but we don’t need a completely separate line of protein powder! *gets off her soapbox*

I was really curious about this! I should compare labels.

Laura, I was just about to write the same thing! We don’t need as much protein as men, but we can certainly drink from the same container. Not sure if this is the case for this protein but a lot of women branded protein drinks use soy. Something about balancing estrogen levels (I’m no doctor), something men obviously don’t need. 🙂

I loved that pack! the protein powder is actually pretty good, surprisingly. And the brownies are super delish–I put them in my freezer to they stayed yummy. The cereal I left upstairs because I’m a night stacker so I just grab one of those at night and snack while in bed and it def. keep me from going in the pantry. I love Quest bars but ya, for $2 a bar….it can be spendy.
This month’s pack was ok–they sent some spark-like stuff in guava-mango and I was excited to try it since I love my Spark. UGH! It was terrible tasting. I could barely drink it and the aftertaste–bleh! It did give me a boost so at least I got something out of it but that is something I will NOT purchase. I haven’t tried anything else but there was a lot in this month’s pack as well. I’m going to keep it for a couple of months to see–but they put another shaker in this box as well–a combo one-one side for pre-workout and one side for post but after 2 shakers I think I’m done with those so hopefully no more.
