Macy's Beauty Box Review - August 2017

Macy’s Beauty Box tested a beauty subscription box years ago, but it only lasted a few months.  It took them a few years, but they have finally launched!

The August 2017 Macy’s Beauty Box included the following items:

~The Bag: I think the bag is my favorite part of this month’s subscription!  It’s gold and has “The In Crowd” (which is the August Beauty Box theme) printed on it.  It has illustrations of beauty products on the front, a plain back and a hot pink interior.

~Philosophy Purity Facial Cleanser (2oz) ($7.33): This is a nice, solid cleanser.  It’s gentle, but it works.  Some cleansers really make you work to rinse it off your face, but not this one.  It has a pleasant smell too!

~Benefit Gimme Brow (1g) ($8):  I know good brows are the thing right now, but I am too lazy to really “do” mine.  It does work to fill your brows and, provided you don’t overapply, doesn’t look like you are trying too hard.

~Good Girl by Carolina Herrera ($7.65): I like this scent well enough (it’s a floral scent with notes of Tuberose, Jasmine, and Tonka Bean), but I feel in love with it after seeing the full-size bottle.  It’s a high-heel shoe and it’s beyond fabulous.

~tarte Maracuja Oil (0.23fl. oz) ($6.50): This oil ”targets individual skin concerns and delivers balanced moisture for firmer, brighter, and smoother-looking skin.”  It’s popped up in a few subscription boxes over the years and I have always been pleased with the results. Some facial oils are too greasy or make me break out (a few even dry out my skin which is odd), but this one just helps my skin look better.

~M.A.C. False Lashes Extreme Black (No Size Listed) (~$5): I love that M.A.C. products have been popping up more in subscription boxes.  I hope this trend continues.  This is a nice mascara – it coated well and wasn’t clumpy, but I felt like my lashes still needed some work after using it.

~Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palette (Golden Hour) ($0.5oz) ($5.37): Samples in this palette included “Turned On” and “Psyched”.  Both are suitable for daytime or nighttime and went on smoothly.

~Coupon: Every both also includes a coupon good for $5 off your next beauty purchase.  It’s good in-store or online and there is no minimum purchase required.

Macy's Beauty Box Review - August 2017All totaled the August 2017 Macy’s Beauty Box had a value of $39.85.  That’s well over double the cost of the box (and that doesn’t even include the value of the cute makeup bag), but I can’t help but feel let down.  I am not sure what I was expecting?  More products?  Bigger samples?  I will give it a few more months (I always like to give a box at least 3-months) and then decide if it’s worth it to me.

I didn’t subscribe to this one. I get Sephora Play and felt Macy’s was going to be a higher priced version. I think their price point is off considering you can get full size items in Allure’s beauty box for the same price.
