~Good morning!  B’s traveling this week, but first we have to get thru our first Science Olympiad meeting.  L got picked to participate and parents are required to coach an event.  Has anyone ever done this?  Any tips / event suggestions?

~It’s Secret Santa time!  If you are interested in participating you can sign up and get all of the details here.  There is also a Facebook group to share ideas / pictures, etc. but if you don’t have Facebook or don’t want to join, no big deal at all!

~Have you tried the new Salted Caramel Pepsi? L and I want to try it, but we haven’t come across it yet. Hopefully soon!

That’s it from here.  Have a great week!

I’ve been the assistant coach for our school Science Olympiad team the last two years. It really depends on what activity it is, how you prepare. Some of them, you just have to study a lot of stuff. Other ones, you have to practice building and practice building… trial and error. There are usually some study guides out there and youtube videos. They have to be prepared. You really need students who work fast and work good together. Good luck!

I ended up with “Zowie Estimation”!

We’ve never had that one. Looks like they just need to practice a lot. Give them lots of different materials for the weight, and different materials with different containers to guess the objects, and I would probably have them build some different boxes so they are familiar with volume.

Remember, they don’t want their estimate to be so far off that it ruins their score.

Yeah it doesn’t seem too bad?? We have a kit (from the school) that has a few different scales in it and lots of different materials / containers to weigh. We have a binder too, but I haven’t gotten too far into it yet. What are your favorite events??
