Things I Love Thursday: Made in Michigan Edition

I haven’t done a Things I Love Thursday in ages, so this is way overdue! In honor of Michigan summers (which are AMAZING in case you’ve never experienced one), this is the Made in Michigan edition.

Bell’s Beer:

If you haven’t had a Bells Oberon (it’s a Pale Wheat Ale), you are missing out.  I don’t even love beer that much and I like it.  So that’s saying something.  They started out in Kalamazoo, MI in the 80’s and are now all over the place.  I was on their website today and noticed that they offered brewery tours.  I am all over that idea and want to plan a road trip there ASAP.  I love love love behind the scenes tours!

Better Maid Chips:

Better Made chips have been around for ages.  They still make their products in Michigan, in Detroit to be exact.  I believe it’s the same factory they have been in since they began (someone will correct me when I am wrong – Mom??).  My all time favorite Better Made product is their butter braided pretzels.  Something tells me that these are not overly healthy.  But really, who cares?

Sanders Hot Fudge
:

Back when I was a waitress at “the Club”, we used to serve hot sundaes.  And without fail, every single person would ask if we used Sanders hot fudge.  To tell you the truth, I am not sure we actually did (I don’t think I ever asked in the back), but I told every once that asked “of course we do”.  Because it’s the best.  The best.

2 Lads Winery
:

I picked 2 Lads because I had read some great things about them lately, but northern Michigan has some great wineries.  Sure, it’s not Napa, but it’s pretty great up there.  If you are in the Midwest and can’t really afford a trip to Napa, consider taking a little road trip up to Old Mission Peninsula (Traverse City) and hit up all the amazing wineries.  You’ll be impressed for sure.  And also impressive is all the gourmet restaurants up there.  Go now.

Faygo
:

I haven’t had a Faygo “red pop” in years, but a discussion about Made in Michigan products wouldn’t be complete without them.  Like Better Made, Faygo still operates out of their original plant in Detroit.  And let me tell you, Detroit back in the day is a totally different place than Detroit now.  So many companies fled the city, but not them.  It makes me want to go out and get some “pop”. 😉

If you live in Michigan, what are some of your favorite Made in Michigan products?  If you are out of state, what is amazing in your state that I need to try?
