January 2013 ipsy Glam Bag Review

January ipsy Glam Bag

I think ipsy might be on a roll because, like last month, I liked this bag a lot! But still, I don’t like it as much as I like Birchbox. They are the same price and nine times out of ten, ipsy has a higher value, but, for whatever reason, I’m not not as excited about it. I think it might be because everyone gets the same bag?  Not sure?

This month’s theme was “Super Stars” and was put together so you can “indulge in the best finds that the beauty world has to offer.  2013 will be the best year yet!”.

January ipsy Discounts

I’ve mentioned it before, but since ipsy has online videos about each of the products and how to use them, they don’t have an information card like all the other boxes. The card tells you what discounts are offered on the products in this month’s bag.

Here’s what was inside this month:

~Pacifica Body Butter (Tuscan Blood Orange) ($7): This stuff smells amazing. Amazing. As soon as I use this up (which should only take like a week), I am going to buy more. And it’s 100% vegan in case you wonder about that kind of thing.

~Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil ($4.67): I have blogged about this before, but JM Argan Oil sucks the life out of my skin.  This is something that I wanted to love oh so much, but it just didn’t work for me.  However, I like it for my hair and nails, so I am happy for the cute little travel sized bottle!

~Nailtini/Straight Up Color Nail Lacquer (Frappe) ($15): I believe that ipsy sent out all sorts of different colors and while pale polishes aren’t my favorites, I don’t hate it either.  I will put some glitter polish over this and put it to good use.  I’m always happy to get polish!

~Sexy Hair/Spray & Play Volumizing Hairspray ($2.48):  While the least expensive, this is my favorite product in the entire bag! I don’t think I have ever gotten a hair spray in any of my beauty bags and I am thrilled.  I love this brand and will be throwing this in my travel bag asap!

~SOHO Concealer Brush ($7.99):  I probably wouldn’t buy this for myself (I’ve never used a concealer brush), but I am happy to get it and try it out!

~Navy Make-Up Bag ($2):  Once again I am valuing this at $2 because I know it has some value, but I have no clue what it is. I love the inside print and the cute ipsy label!

All totaled, the January ipsy Glam bag has a value of $39.14.  Way more than the $10/month cost, but less than some of the other months I’ve received.  However, I think this has been one of my favorite ipsy bags to date!  Probably because it didn’t have more eyeliner in it ;).  I’m not sure if there is still a waiting list to subscribe (does anyone know), but you can click here and get signed up! Do you subscribe to ipsy? What’d you think of this month’s bag?

I just did my review too. I love the products this month just not so much the bag. This is my favorite subscription I get so far. My last couple birchboxes haven’t been all that great and this month is only looking ok. I may change my mind once it gets here but I think this will be the one that I stick with. It seems to have more products each month that I will actually use and this month is no exception.

@Jenny: I don’t think the January bag is especially pretty, but it’s a great MacBook/laptop charger bag. 🙂

My favorite items – the body butter (because it smells so good) and the oil (because it seems to be doing wonderful things to my hair).

I agree about still liking Birchbox better even though the value is often lower; I think it is because everyone does get something different and even if you accidentally see spoilers, it doesn’t really ruin the surprise because it might be something that you are not getting.

I signed up for Ipsy through you and I didn’t have to wait on a wait list, I was able to subscribe right away! I was supposed to get mine yesterday or at least that is what the shipping estimate said, but maybe I will get it today! I’m super excited to get it though!

I also love that Tuscan Blood Orange Body Butter! The travel size was on sephora.com for $3 each back in September and I got a bunch to put in gift bags (gift jars, actually) for a halloween-themed bachelorette party. Then before the holidays, I saw them at all my local TJ Maxx’ for $4 each (in Massachusetts). So look around before buying full price – but I’m sure I don’t have to tell YOU that!

Great review! I just signed up for ipsy and am so excited to receive my first bag next week (Decembers!) I’m curious though, what do all of you ipsy subscribers do with all the bags? Do you keep the products in their appropriate bag or do you choose to combine them with the rest of your cosmetics?

It’s all one big mixed up mess!! I’ve been using the bag to organize my purse and I give them away to my cousins!
