Subscription Box Q & A

Disclosure: If you make a purchase through the links posted below, I may receive a small compensation. Read the full disclosure.

I thought I’d answer a few questions I get asked often (in e-mails, by friends, in comments, etc.):

~How many subscription boxes do you subscribe to?
Gosh, let’s see, I currently receive: Barkbox, Birchbox, Birchbox Man, bluum, Citrus Lane, Goodies Co., IpsyKiwi Crate, Mantry, MommeBox (ugh), PopSugar and Stork Stack on a monthly basis.  Hmm, typing that out makes it seem crazy.  And something tells me I am forgetting some?

~How do you afford them all?
Listen, I am not going to lie.  I am able to subscribe to a lot of them because of you guys.  Lots of boxes have referral programs that you can use to earn free boxes (Birchbox, PopSugar, bluum, Citrus Lane, Kiwi Crate and Barkbox all have great referral programs).  Some don’t (ipsy, Mantry, etc.).  You do have to buy the boxes to begin with though.  Gotta start somewhere.  I always look for coupon codes, deals on Groupon and that type of thing.

~Are you going to review (insert box name)?
When I first started getting requests to review boxes, I didn’t want to do them all.  I mean, some don’t interest me, some don’t apply to me, etc.  But now that I created a master list of all the boxes out there, I want to have a review to go along with each one.  So when someone asks, what’s your favorite “green” subscription box, I’ll have something to base my answer on!

~How do you get companies to send you boxes to review?
This is a good question because honestly, I have no idea.  I am guessing that companies check how people get to their site and sometimes that can be tracked back to my site?  Or a simple google search of their company name could land them here.

~What boxes do you want to try next?
I have been hearing a lot of good things about SeasonsBox lately and Hammock Pack is also on my short list.  In addition, I want to try Conscious Box (hopefully there will be a discount offer soon) and GLOSSYBOX in the next few months.

~Why don’t you subscribe to (insert box name) anymore?
Either I wasn’t loving it, my subscription ran out and there were no more amazing codes / deals out there or I realized it just *gasp* didn’t need it.  Or I decided to switch it out for a different box so I could give another one a try!

~What do you do with the stuff you don’t like / need from the boxes?
Gift it, donate it or sell it.  Or if it’s complete crap or a small food item, I just toss it.

~Will I like (insert box name)?
Honestly, I have no idea.  I try to do super detailed reviews and include prices so that you know if you are getting a deal or not.  Of course, if you hate the $100 worth of products that you paid $10 for, it’s not a deal and it’s not worth it.  But only you know if that type of box will interest you.

~What’s your favorite box?
PopSugar.  I really like that it has no theme.  It’s not just beauty products or fitness or food or whatever.  It could have anything in it.  It’s a true grab bag!  While some people probably don’t like the surprise aspect of monthly subscription boxes, I think it’s the best part!
