Things That Annoy Me: The Internet Edition

Disclosure: If you make a purchase through the links posted below, I may receive a small compensation. Read the full disclosure.

I think we all have a love / hate relationship with the internet. Today we are going to talk about the hate part!

1. Captcha: These things are getting out.of.control. Seriously, who in the world can read these? Certainly not a human. Isn’t the entire point to make sure a human is actually the one entering the codes? Umm, sorry. No human can read this.  I can’t even tell you the number of contests that I haven’t entered because of gems like these.  You know what, if you can read this, you should win d*mn it.  Be my guest.

2. Video News Stories: I’ve mentioned this before, but get so so so annoyed when a news story is ONLY in video form.  Listen CNN, I’m trying feed my half asleep baby.  Playing a video just isn’t going to work.  I hated this equally as much when I worked.  It’s kinda hard to like watch a CNN news story while on a conference call.  It’s a heck of a lot easier (and quieter to READ) a story.

3. Spam:  Ugh.  It’s everywhere.  Spam comments.  Spam e-mails.  Can someone explain to me where all this spam comes from?  And what purpose does it serve?  Anyone?  Does anyone click on it?  Who has actually believed that they won a 8,000,000 U.S.D. in the “FACEBOOK LOTTERY”?  Come on.

4. Scammers: Not to be confused with spammers, these are scammers.  Think the guy on Catfish who pretended he was a girl.  Or the people on Craigslist who want you to “donate” your items to them for their amazing, yet unnamed charity or school.  Or people who want to buy your eBay item in an off eBay transaction for more than you are asking for it.  Do these people have trouble sleeping at night?  Because I would.

5. Registering: You know what annoys me?  Having to register for every single website on the planet.  I do not want to register to read articles and leave comments and look at pictures and all that.  I just want to do it.  And not only am I suppose to register, I am suppose to come up with some super special password with 10 characters that I need to remember each and every time I come on your website.  Dude, no.  Sometimes I cannot even remember my own birthday.  How can I be expected to remember my log-in to browse the Tory Burch sale at HauteLook?  Of that’s right, I didn’t remember and you didn’t send it to me because your site was crashing, so I missed the entire sale.  Super.
