Hello Fresh
Hello Fresh

I received a Hello Fresh gift card in my pickybunny box and I was so excited because it was something I’d been wanting to check out. Hello Fresh is a weekly (although you can adjust this to skip weeks if you want) meal subscription box service. Every week, you can pick the delicious recipes you want to try (except for under the veggie meal plan) and Hello Fresh sends you amazing recipes and all of the ingredients you need to prepare them.

Hello Fresh
The Box

Hello Fresh ships via FedEx and arrives on a scheduled day (mine is Thursday), so you know exactly when to expect it. I did not have to sign for the package, but you may not want to let it sit outside all day you know?

Everything was packed in a very well insulated cooler which fit perfect in the box.  The cooler had ice packs which were still frozen when it arrived.  I was very pleased by this since the box contains fresh meat and yeah, I don’t want to have ANY concerns that it has not been maintained at the correct temperature.

I picked the regular meal plan (not the veggie meal plan) and had 5 options to pick from.  I cannot remember what the other two were, but the three I opted for are below:

Asian Pork Roll-Ups: I was most excited about this one because it’s totally something I would order at a restaurant.

Hello Fresh
Asian Pork Roll-ups with Mango Salad

The information card lists all of the ingredients, nutrition facts and lets you know what tools you need to make the meal.  The flip side of the card includes step by step instructions to prepare the meal.

Hello Fresh packages everything into individual bags and labels everything so you easily know what items are for what recipe.  Also, everything is perfectly portioned so you will not have any waste.

This was the first meal we (aka B) made and it turned out perfect!  B even commented on how cool it was and how much he enjoyed making it.  And I can confirm that this was delicious.  Totally delicious!  I would totally get this again.  And again!

~Linguini with Tomato Garlic Ragu: This was another meal I knew right away was for us! I am obsessed with pasta and could eat it every single day.

Linguini with Tomato Garlic Ragu

Again, the information card tells you everything you need to know about the recipe.  The instructions are so simple that even I could follow them.

Linguini with Tomato Garlic Ragu – The Ingredients

I don’t think I realized that a serving of pasta was that small!  I’ll just admit that I usually cook up an entire box at once.  This is going to change!

Linguini with Tomato Garlic Ragu – The Result

We had this for dinner last night and oh boy was it good!  It had a bit of a kick to it, but B and I ate every single bite.  The pine nuts were a great addition and totally not something we would have added on our own.  We are totally guilty of just eating the basic old recipes and never really make restaurant type foods, which is what you get with Hello Fresh!

~Pan Roasted Cod with Ramps, Tomatoes & Potatoes: I wasn’t sure what to get for the 3rd meal, but I ended up going with a fish dish.  I was super curious to see what the quality of the fish would be like.  Is that weird?

Hello Fresh
Pan Roasted Cod with Ramps, Tomatoes & Potatoes

If you don’t see from what I have posted, I need to tell you that the quality of the produce, meats, fruits, etc. are exactly like they appear on the Hello Fresh website and the recipe cards.  There is no waiting for anything to ripen or getting anything which is past it’s prime.

Pan Roasted Cod with Ramps, Tomatoes & Potatoes ~ The Ingredients

We are having this for dinner tonight and I will post a picture on Instagram after B makes it.  I thought it was so cute that they even include the butter for the potatoes!  They assume you have NOTHING (except olive oil), which I like.  I mean sometimes we actually have no butter in the house, so this is good!

By my calculations, Hello Fresh works out to $12/meal per person (it’s $69/week for 2 people and also has options for 4 and 6 servings per meal), which I think is a pretty fair since it’s less than what’d you pay in a restaurant for sure.  AND it takes all the hassle out of shopping and planning and all that!  I don’t think we’ll do it every week, but B and I decided for sure once every two weeks because we enjoyed it so much!

Do you subscribe to Hello Fresh?  What do you think of their service?  If you are interested in subscribing or want to learn more, click here.  And don’t forget to use the code “aHELLOJUNE” to save $20 off your first box.

This is sort of like dream dinners, but way less work since you have to go there and package the food into portions yourself! My mum did the dream dinners for me and my husband at the end of my pregnancy and the first few weeks after the baby was born.

    1. Robert Vincent

Great review Danielle… What really got me to try them, was the promo code: CE6HNQ that took $40 off my first order, so it was only $29.

Ever since my first box, I have been hooked!

      -Robert

      1. Anita Lawrence

DO NOT TRY THIS AWFUL COMPANY. They will send you rotten food and you will not be able to reach them or receive a refund.

They have no shame in taking your time and money.

  2. Sandra

I like the concept of this box and the recipes look delicious. But I just checked the website and they do not deliver to the West Coast or any state approximately west of the Mississippi River.

    1. kim

They do now! I am in CA, Sacramento!

  3. Glenda

So, did it really take 30 minutes or less to prepare? I need something like this (as long as it isn’t too much work)!

  4. Whitney

I was so upset to find out they are only available on the EAST coast. Come to California Hello Fresh!!!

    1. HelloFresh

Yummy! This would be really cool to try, though definitely not within the budget for the near future.

  6. Jen

They don’t deliver to Wisconsin! Bummer — looked great for busy nights 🙂

    1. Lorelei

@Jen: try Meez meals if near the border of il/wi or blue apron I believe delivers to Wi.

      1. Kim Elizabeth

I looked at Blue Apron this morning and they do not deliver to my zip code in southern Wisconsin.

    2. HelloFresh

  8. jamie

glad to hear you enjoyed it what a great date night in idea

    1. Nafis

Hello Fresh is Now available throughout the USA (continental states)

  9. Rona B

My husband and I saw a YouTube video and were really interested in trying it. As several have already mentioned they do not deliver to the west coast. We’ll just have to wait for them or a similar company to start serving this side.

  10. carol

I broke down and ordered one. I did the meal for two but since its just me I can eat all week and it was only 49.00 because I had a code. Not bad I can eat for a week on 49 I hope its good. Will they send me a list to pick from before it comes or do they pick and send?

  11. carol

I swear I have the worst luck. I order the box and picked my meals but when they showed up today it was the wrong stuff !!!! Good grief I cant believe my luck. They sent shrimp which I don’t eat and all the other meals are wrong too. I’m wondering if I got someone elses box? Has anyone gotten theirs this month? and did you pick your meals? thanks guys I love this blog

    1. Dee Dee

No, I wasn’t able to pick my meals. I did check off the ones I wanted, and thought I would get them. However, when my box arrived, I got meal items I never had chosen. I was very disappointed, especially when my “cod fish” which I had 2 fillets, one was already cooked and was like leather. I’m still trying to get some action here in having them help me, but all I get when I call their toll free number is a recording.

      1. Jennifer L

Email them if you haven’t gotten any response.. I did. They ended up crediting me – but I cancelled my subscription because EVERY TIME I got food – the fish portion was ALWAYS rotten and half the veggies/fruit that were in the box were smashed and rotten. I gave them some time to try to turn it around – the box I received last night was worse. Mango smashed and leaking everywhere, rotten lettuce, moldy herbs, rotten and smashed avacado. To make their recipe’s I will have to go to the store to get the ingredients that were nasty. SO NO WORTH IT!!

        1. jl

i received a gift card thru mutual friend. after watching reviews on you tube regarding product. i figured i would give it a try. redeemed code for gift card, registered @site and after reading terms and conditions. i decided this service was not for me. I strongly advise everyone to read the terms and conditions. i try to deactivate my registration, but could not, even after reading instructions. i guess you have to actually place an order first. with any website you should be able to unsubscribe. red flags for me buyer beware. proceed with caution and according to website they accept paypal. I would highly recommend at least you may have some form of protection and you are not put senstive credit card info @ risk.

        2. Michelle

Yep! Hello Fresh …NOT FRESH! NOT HAPPY! Waiting for refund. Grrrrrrrr

  12. braldt

DO NOT USE HELLOFRESH.COM ??tried for 3 weeks ?. week one missing one minor ingredient ?week 2 missing major meat ingredient ?week 3 no box came at all ?.told it was a glich in their system ..hellofresh now canceled!

    1. Jenny

I agree DO NOT use this meal service. I consistently received rotten greens. Hello NOT so fresh. I did not receive anything that seemed worth the purchase price. The meals are not particularly family friendly. My kids wouldn’t touch it. It was difficult to cancel and impossible to speak to a person. Call the 1-800 number on their web site and it will ring endlessly.

  13. Tracey

Hello Fresh has been great for me. Easy tasty meals weekly. I don’t have to rush out of work to go grocery shopping anymore. Here’s another code to use for $20 off first order. Y8WPXK

  14. Lauren

Did they pay you to write this review? I tried them as was really disappointed! The onion was half rotten, the meat was so greasy it made me sick. And it is really expensive!

  15. Catherine Adkins

Well, I truly do not know where to begin. WARNING!! Hello Fresh? Hello? First, no one answers the phone if you have a problem or complaint or just have a question. I called NINE times on Sept 19th. I sent at least that many emails. NO RESPONSE. I was billed before the agreed upon date. That was a shocker! Oh, I was told they had changed the billing date from Friday to Weds. I was able to provide proof that my invoice clearly stated Friday and was told that was an oops and would be updated. Then I was told I could not get a refund due to their unauthorized charge to my account. In a nutshell, my husband and I are saying Good Bye to Hello Fresh.

  16. Mauricemom

Here is a coupon code….for those wanting to try it. You save 20 bucks HTXSU5

  17. Stephanie

I don’t suggest using this service. Some ingredients in my box were spoiled and one ingredient was past expiration. I tried to get a refund and instead they gave a credit which would mean a would be spending more money to this terrible company.

  18. sue

I thought I would give it a try, but I see no where to pick the meals until possibly AFTER YOU HAVE PAID. I will not pay before I know if there are 3 meals my family will eat!!

    1. Jennifer

I am not sure how it works with the voucher, but you can usually skip weeks until you see options you are interested in!

    2. Joni

You can view the past, current and next week’s five meal selections (each for omnivore and vegan) without logging in or spending a dime. That gives you an idea what you have to choose from. This is my first time ordering and I had a generous $40 off coupon. Sadly, the last week’s offerings seemed to appeal to me better. A day late and a dollar short. I ended up choosing a pasta dish, an Asian dish and a shrimp dish. (Ironically, for my week, they had the option for chilies rellenos, but my housekeeper makes the best ones ever, so that is completely off the table for me!) I don’t know if I will be able to justify $70 a week for this, but at $30 a week, it is something good to try. Will let you know how it goes.

  19. Kristen

They do deliver to wisconsin, I just placed my order.

  20. Cindy

No Way! I will not use Hello Fresh. It should be called Hello Suckers!

  21. Judy

We just had our fist box (3 meals) delivered. insulated packaging included two big freezer packs to keep it all cold for an extended period of time. Everything is super-fresh, good quality (e.g., Murray’s chicken), already prepped, precisely measured. One great bonus to this service is that you get just enough of what you would otherwise have to purchase a lot of (e.g., sprigs of thyme). Very clear instructions, including clear illustrative photos (e.g., how to lay out the meal of the baking sheet). Delicious meals with ingredients that I otherwise might not have considered. Not expensive; relatively cheap in fact if you consider what your dish would cost in a restaurant. Drawbacks: extended delivery time. This service is intended at least in part for busy people. A 12 hour delivery window is too long. My emails to the company were answered immediately and the people were very helpful. But it would be good to be able to reach someone by phone, for example if you have a question about a recipe. I guess this will come as the company grows. Otherwise, I was really satisfied with the product, which is the main thing, after all.

  22. Kathy Elliott

Portion sizes are super small. The protein portion (chicken, fish, sausage, beef) is only 2 ounces. Some of the recipes take quite a bit of time to prepare. The canned beans are the cheapest brand. The produce was fresh, though. Not bad tasting, but for close to $11 per meal is quite expensive for such small portions. Cancelled after my first order, can not afford this.

  23. DontCAre

here is a $40 voucher code that i dont want to use. Hope it helps someone out.
    BNS156770

  24. Dori

I also got a $40 voucher when I placed an order to another store; and this is just not something I’m interested in at this time.

First come, first serve to whoever wants it:

    GO4359984

  25. Shannon

This isn’t something I can use but I did receive a code for a large percentage off. The code is NATIONAL45 if anyone would like to use it. I think it can be used by multiple people.

  26. heather

I just ordered my first box after getting the $40 off card, and I really hope it doesnt suck as bad as some of these people are saying! Maybe they have improved? Anyhow I never intended on keeping the deal going, because I love to cook. Just thought the one time deal would be a nice break.

    1. Beck

I’d love to know how that works out. I was thinking of doing the same thing.

  27. Heidi Gregori

Hello Fresh is HORRIBLE! The packaging is SO WASTEFUL, every ingredient is in a separate piece of plastic, not to mention the toxic ice bags and huge Styrofoam container it comes in. The food is not that special, and the recipes only so-so. Hated it!

  28. Andromache

I’ve been using HelloFresh for a few months now. Like the author, we don’t do it every week–but order a couple of times a month to help out on busy nights. We have been getting the veggie option–3 meals for 2 people. I found it stretches pretty far (more than 3 meals) because I usually add chicken or another protein, so figure it more like 5 meals for $60, plus $10 worth of chicken, beef, or pork, making it about $70 for 5 meals, or $14 per meal/$7 per person. Still cheaper and better than gross fast food, and a chance to try new things/vegetables we can’t get here in our rural community. I chose the veggie box in an attempt to get my family of 3 to eat more vegetables. I just now switched over to the non-veggie box. Lately, there have been a lot of beets and cauliflower, which aren’t our faves, so I decided to switch for a while. Generally, my teen doesn’t like the food, although he’s tried a few things. I’ve only gotten slightly stale greens once–everything else was good. The only recipe we really found horrible were the paper-wrapper spring rolls. Spouse said they looked like dead, decaying squid–and he was kinda right. 🙂

  29. ICanCookNow

    Hi there all!

I just signed up for Hello Fresh and I LOVE it! I’m finally cooking at home most nights instead of paying to go out for unhealthy prepared meals! I recommend it for sure. Use code UDFFBH to get $40 off your first box! ^_^ (Code never expires)

    Happy cooking!

    Clare

  30. BookMaven

Really disappointed. Tried it with the $40 off coupon, and glad we didn’t pay full price! Portions are small, so if you want leftovers, you’ll have to pay for the 4-person meals. The meat was lower-quality than what I can buy locally, and the dishes were ok, but nothing spectacular. For $12/person, it’s a lot less expensive to do some simple meal planning and buy ingredients at the store.

    1. Shelley May

Thanks for the review. For $12/person, I can eat out and have someone else cook for me and do the dishes.

    2. HelloFresh

So sorry about that! We’ll pass that along to the team.

  31. Aimee

I subscribed to Hello Fresh in Oct. 2014 and have really enjoyed it. I don’t get a box each week, which I like. You can skip weeks. I usually get one box per month. Use the code EY6D28, and receive $40 off your first box. I have not had any problems with spoiled or missing items.

  32. Jackie Wood

I ordered a Hello Fresh box to try it with a discount code. I got my first box delivered for $41.60 in January 2015. The box arrived today and I’m very happy with it!! The food was well packaged with 2 ice bags in a styrofoam cooler, it had no leaks, and it looks very fresh. I got a chicken entree, a pork entr?e and a seared steak entr?e. All of the vegetables look plentiful and very fresh. The meat is sealed in vacuum bags they look to be about 5 ounce portions. They look like really good cuts of meat. All of the fixin’s come in the box except for basic pantry items like salt, pepper, olive oil and butter. The recipe cards are beautiful and show us exactly how to prepare each meal step by step with pictures. I haven’t cooked any of them yet, but from just reading the recipe cards I can tell they will be tasty. An awesome concept for people who don’t have a lot of time to shop, or for people who don’t have a large variety of foods near them. When you place your first order, you can go to the calendar and delay your next 3 or 4 shipments to give you time to decide if you like it. A+++ give it a try.

  33. kenpodon

Here’s a $40 voucher code for hellofresh I got with my Omaha Steaks order, I hope you can use it:
    P189JCFFU

    1. Robin

It worked for me. Thank you very much.

  34. DeeDee

Wait until you have a problem and then try to call them for assistance at 1-800-733-2414 and get their constant repeated message to email them and they will contact you. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! I like this company, too, however, my first shipment I was not able to choose my products, it was chosen for me with 2 meals which were not to my liking. Second box came immediately with one of the chicken breasts missing (leaving me with one chicken breast for 2 people – not enough). So for over one-week with constant emails which I had sent to get this issue resolved; as you could never reach them by telephone, I have not heard from them to this day. This is no way to run a business and leave ones clientele in the dark in guessing what is going on. When something needs to be addressed and immediately, then I expect a quick reply, and email messages don’t cut it. I had no other recourse except to call my credit card company and make a claim dispute on my food items. All I want is for someone to contact me and hear my complaint and make amends on it, which I think is quite legitimate, and I can’t even get that. If you don’t agree, then try making a call right now from their “1-800” number, and see if you don’t get a recording to email them. Then what would be next for you to do?

    1. theramblingjen

How long ago did you e-mail them? I would try their Facebook next!

    2. Teresa

Yeah, I just tried calling, but it is after hours. Says they’re open 9-5… There is no option to even leave them a message though!
PS: When I sent my email, I got an automated response saying they are swamped because of Juno?!?!?! I don’t know, I will wait then post again after they respond to the email.

  35. Robin

I just ordered my first box and I used a coupon from someone on this post to get 40$ off. Which made my total 28$ After ordering I got a code for someone to use to also get 40$ off. I’m hoping the food is great! The code is: 4S8BMC

    1. Teresa

Can they be used twice? Won’t it say invalid or something?

  36. Cindi Hobbs

I have to say the recipes were delicious but unfortunately they did not deliver as promised. My very first order was missing the sausage and the potato was rotten. I emailed customer service and was promptly issued a $10 credit towards the next box. The next shipment came without incident (but a day late) and the recipes were decent. The third shipment never arrived. Upon contacting customer service via email, they stated it never left the kitchen and they would issue a refund for 1/2 the amount! What??? After many emails with their rep, Joy (they do not answer the phone and tell you to contact them via email) back and forth with no satisfactory conclusion I had to dispute the charge on my credit card. I cancelled my subscription and will not recommend them. With all the competition out there customer service should be exemplary to retain customer relationships. Very sad as I enjoyed making the meals.

  37. Beth

Just got my first box!….a day late. Everything was defrosted and spoiled. There was a hole in the bag of shrimp so it spilled all over the box. Gross smelly mess. And no one answers their dang phone. Sent an email and the reply was we’ll get back to you in 48-96 hours. Done

  38. Matt C

Don’t order from this company. Customer service is non-existent and not at all helpful. When you email, you get a response that says something about Juno causing problems and to expect a delay in a response. Then (if lucky) you get a response 2-3 days later with a “profuse” apology but no action—they basically blame you for the problem. My issue at first was with delivery since UPS just left my box outside of my building. Second issue was when I tried to cancel and they still sent me 2 boxes, one of which UPS decided not to deliver for about 5 days (what makes them think perishable food can last that long). Finally, as some have stated you get very little food for $69. There’s no way I would spend that much for just 3 meals even if I shopped at a high-end grocer. Protein sizes are tiny and in the end, some recipes require so many steps that it doesn’t make meal preparation that much easier. Stay away and save your money!!!

  39. SHunter

After reading 49 reviews, I will not even try HelloFresh. I saw the ad on TV and thought I would check out the website. Companies like this should take time read reviews on the Internet and make every effort to use the information to improve….especially when it is a new concept such as this. I especially fear the non responsive customer service complaints that are numerous here. Problems will naturally occur but it seems the method of resolution with HelloFresh is not worth the risk.

  40. Emily

I just got my first box last night, and I have to say the first meal we made was AMAZING! Yes it’s a little pricey, but you can set your subscription to once a month or even once a year if you want, no membership fees.

For $40 off your first box and free shipping, try this coupon code -> 3M3LHS

  41. Jessica N.

They have the WORST customer service though! I decided to give them a try and the boxes/recipes were good, but I decided to cancel my subscription because most of the meals I could make at home for half the price. I know I was paying for the convenience of not having to shop but it just wasn’t worth the extra cost for us at the time. No hard feelings, just not for us?until I tried to cancel my subscription.

I have tried to cancel my subscription via the website multiple times but I keep getting charged. I’ve sent them over four emails emails saying that I DON’T want to continue my subscription and all they do is refer me back to the website. Meanwhile, I keep getting charged and sent boxes when I have clearly communicated that I do not want them. I finally threatened to to go to BBB and they offered to give only a partial refund.

Unless you know you won’t ever want to cancel your subscription, I do NOT recommend Hello Fresh. This “convenience” has turned into a huge hassle and frustration.

    1. Tammy

I am amazed how some people have no problems and some people have rotten luck with missing ingredients or lack of customer service. I received a $40 coupon, and I hate meal planning and grocery shopping, so I thought I’d give it a try. After I got the first box, my husband asked if I checked the company out first. Nope, stupid me. They have an F rating with the BBB. We did enjoy the first box and the second box is supposed to arrive today. Its a great time saver for our busy family, so we will stick with it for a while. I did look into the other large meal delivery companies: Blue Apron, Plated, and Peach. They are all priced higher than Hello Fresh. If anyone is brave enough to try HF and wants $40 off your first order, the discount promo code is VAXYDL

    2. Teresa

UGH! If I were you, I would call your cc company and dispute the charges.

  42. susan downs MD

They are fraudulent in claiming their food is healthy. They just informed me their fish is farm raised which will make us sick. I have to assume their meats are grain fed, and veggies GMO laded. THis is a great way to get sick

    1. Scott

“which will make us sick.” No, it won’t. Neither will grain-fed meat and certainly not GMO veg. What will make you sick is not properly cooking chicken or pork, and not washing your hands before preparing food and immediately after handling meat. If you’ve been sick after eating their food, then I suggest you improve your food hygiene.

  43. Kim

I just placed my first order, using my $40 off code. I’m a little concerned after reading some of these reviews. My order won’t be in until March 4, but I’ll post my review after I’ve received it and prepared a meal. I hope to have success like some seem to have!

    1. Teresa

      Same here (concerned…)

  44. Teresa

So what is it, good or bad???? The reviews are SO mixed! We need to hear from people that have actually been ordering from them for some time and see if THEY are satisfied, you know? When did this company start anyway? Perhaps its still too new and we should wait until they get all of the kinks out, I mean a phone number and no one answers? And emails that don’t get answered? I just don’t know about this, even with a $40 gift code.

    1. Elizabeth

      Teresa,
We subscribed to the service in Louisiana and our boxes were mailed from the Dallas service center. Our first box was excellent. Our second box was missing an ingredient and the correct recipe card, and our third box had 2 week old shrimp. We cancelled. My mother’s subscription continued and she received expired salmon and the following week shrimp that was dated the same expiration as the ones I received two weeks prior. They literally sent her month old expired shrimp. Were they frozen? I HOPE SO! But that is the antithesis of fresh, especially $70 a box fresh.
Bottom line: The recipes are tasty and we tried so many new things that we never would have thought of. The quality of the food is not up to par and a waste of money some weeks. My decision? Download their recipes and buy your own food. No, not as convenient as the service but we’re not wasting anymore money.

  45. Lisa

Hi all. I have no interest in trying this company, but I received a voucher off of my Omaha Steaks box and thought someone else could use it. U722J6TUK

  46. Curtis Dudley

Hello Fresh is great, my wife thinks Im an all star now.
Use code M5J2J7 to get $40 off your 1st Shipment!

  47. Janet Hagen

I ordered an introductory special for 29.00 and didn’t realize I had signed up for a weekly subscription and not only that but for two boxes a week. (I’m still unclear how that happened.) I did not receive any emails asking me what I’d like and I started receiving two boxes a week. When I sent an email about the first two boxes (following the introductory box), I never heard back from them until two more boxes arrived the following week for a total of 269.95. I am so upset and they won’t refund any of the money. Just be careful of how you order.

Can you tell me if the pasta they use for the pasta meals is whole wheat pasta?

  49. Jackie

They must have responded to the customer feedback, because when I called the 800#, it went straight to a customer service rep (a real, live human being), no wait. So that’s good… but I would like to see more positive feedback that doesn’t include a discount code. That code you all keep posting makes me wonder whether you’re getting a kickback!

    1. Charlene

Yes Jackie, there is a kickback. If someone uses a code that is posted in the comments, the person that posted the comment gets $20.00 off their next box. Makes absolutely no sense if they are bashing the company and then posting the code! I just ordered my first box to get my boss to stop harping about it, so I can’t give an honest review yet. I’m hoping its better than what I’ve read here.

  50. CLARE

    Hi there all!

I just signed up for Hello Fresh and I LOVE it! I’m finally cooking at home most nights instead of paying to go out for unhealthy prepared meals! I recommend it for sure. Use code 86F7PB to get $40 off your first box (code never expires!) ^_^

    Happy cooking!

This is such a simple but great concept! I do find myself back and forth to the local store for an ingredient or two that I forgot. I always get items that I didn’t intend to buy and it all adds up $$$ at the check out.
So simple and so delish! You choose what meals you like best each week and delivered right to your door. And the prices are reasonable (minus all the unwanted items you would have purchased at the store!)
Here’s a $40 discount code for you to try and you can cancel even after the first delivery! 2X5TGN

  52. David

The food is fine but their billing practices are very questionable. Watch out for any free trials. I agreed to a free trial that I later discovered was billed to my credit card was billed without my approval. I personally hate it when it says clearly “Your card will not be charged.” Only to look on my credit card and see that they are in fact billing me! After contacting them they have said they will refund me. But who wants to deal with companies that engage in such shady business practices?

  53. L.Seay

I received a $40 Voucher code in the mail. I’ve not interested in food being delivered to me, but if someone wants to use the code, feel free: Z04CQKYT6 And no, I don’t get anything in return for someone using that code. The back of the card says:
This voucher card entitles new customers to sign up for a discounted HelloFresh food box subscription. This voucher card is valid until 12/31/15 and can only be redeemed per household. Offer may not be combined with other offers. See the full terms and conditions online at http://www.hellofresh.com.

I’m not sure if they just started offering it, but people, use PayPal to pay for this service! Cancellation is then a breeze and you control it within PayPal and not on Hello Fresh website.

I’ve just ordered my first box. I went back into the meals section after I placed the order and was able to choose which meals I wanted.

If I don’t like it, I’ll just log into PayPal and cancel the subscription and PayPal will NOT Issue any more funds even if they continue to ship me boxes. If I have a problem with a shipment, I’ll complain to PayPal and let them work out the issues and get my refund!

  55. Wendy

I have had a very bad experience with Hello Fresh. They have twice charged me for deliveries that never made it to my house, they did refund me eventually, but it took many many many emails and calls to get my money refunded. They had the audacity to suggest that they would compensate me by crediting me account, with me money mind you, and delivering me a box paid for with that credit in the future. As if I would, after twice not having the service I paid for delivered, leave my money on account with this company. I can not comment on the quality of the food as they can not even get the very basic food delivery portion of their service right, the very premise that their business is based on. Shame on you Hello Fresh for such poor delivery of your service and even worse customer service.

  56. Elena

Extremely hard to cancel subscription. No phone number on site or even available by google; phone number provided by emailing them is not answered during their business hours; No “cancel subscription or enrollment” or “unenroll” or “unsubscribe” (how is a user to know that she has to click a pencil to to make the “unsubscribe” option appear? the video entitled, “deactivate,” on the right side of the account page is insufficient to notify the customer that it shows hows to cancel the subscription. No clear email indicating that a delivery is scheduled after a 2-month suspension, especially given the barrage of email advertisements from them, and email does not state that cancellation of the delivery must be made within a certain date. insufficient resolution of cancellation complaint (50% refund and a credit for future order even though I had cancelled subscription after a days work of emails and eventual phone calls. Food takes 15 min. extra to cook than stated.

Very, Very disappointed. Ordered a gift certificate for sister and son. Once you use the gift certificate, Hello Fresh enrolls you as subscription customer. This was unknown to me or to those that redeemed their gift certificates since the “subscription” requirement is obscure and not up front to forewarn you that you are getting hooked into a subscription.

I found out about the subscription when I noticed my charge acct was charged $69.00. I am disputing this charge and sent the food back. Will report them to the Attorney General in my state for deceptive business practice. Their methods to hook you into a subscription are not upfront and in your face when you redeem your gift certificate, that’s because most people would not order if they knew what they were getting into.

I am sure Hello Fresh will not be in business for any length of time since their business practices turn off customers.

  59. Arelica

Thanks Jennifer for the amazing review!

I really needed to find a more convenient way to get back to loving to cook in my kitchen?
I ended up finding another service, which originally started over in Belgium but is now available across the United States: HomeChef. I have tried a number of different “dinner subscription boxes” and this one TOPPED MY LIST!

I started looking for a way to try this service pretty cheap, because I already pay too much for groceries, and I found a great deal for HomeChef! I got $30 Off and Free Shipping on my First Order by using this offer link: http://www.homechef.com/%69%6E%76%69%74%65/kQWAUbAMrJo

That made my first order only $29, perfect to give it a try! In my first order I got the Raspberry Chipotle BBQ Chicken and it was SO good! The other meals included a Mushroom and Swiss Beef Burger and Sous-Vide Baby Back Ribs. They were all very easy to make in MY OWN kitchen and my whole family loved how they tasted! I now get it every week because it is SO convenient, tastes AMAZING, and I get to try cooking new things that I would have never made before?

I just thought I’d post it if anyone else is looking for a deal to give it a try.

  60. Linda

I recently received a $40 voucher card from B&N. The discount is valid until 12/31/2015 and can only be used once. If anyone would like to use it, the code is AC1C2MKVJ.

  61. Steve

Tried it for two weeks, and decided to cancel. I am canceling Hello Fresh for similar reasons that I canceled Blue Apron.

    1. Nutrition: The meals are not balanced. Way too high in carbs, and not enough green leafy veggies. Last night’s meal was the kicker. Beef Gyoza with green beans. 100 g of carbs. Who eats 20 gyoza as a meal? That’s just not a meal.

    2. Flavor: Many of the dishes I have prepared are bland, compared to the “standard preparation” you would get in either a restaurant setting or at home, under normal circumstances. Take the aforementioned gyoza. The contained beef, scallions, ginger and garlic. And were… bland (and the texture of the beef was too fine). The standard preparation would have in addition, Nappa cabbage, soy or other sauce, and other spices.

Final notes: I like the concept, but the meals need to be more nutritionally balanced. The reality is, it’s hard to prepare a balanced and varied set of meals, that someone can cook in less than an hour. That is why lots of working folks choose fast food or take home roast chicken. I will go back to cooking ahead the protein and freezing on the weekends, supplementing with fresh veggies and greens and leaving the carbs for special occasions.

I started with “Plated” and was SO unhappy with the food. Recipe’s just were not good (dry, bland, etc.). I loved the concept so much that I then tried “Hello Fresh”, and am still using Hello Fresh. I LOVE most all recipes!!! I really like to cook, I really like to try new recipe’s and interesting foods/spices/herbs, and this is such a great way to do this without purchasing an entire package or bottle of something that I may not use again for several months and then it goes to waste. I have not yet had any problems with delivery, missing food, or anything else. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Hello Fresh!!! I live in Minnesota.

  65. Roxy

    We LOVe Hello FResh!
For those that would like to try the service, here is a coupon worth $40 off your first order.
(new customers only). Please note, I will receive 20$ off as well. Thanks!

  66. I live in Texas and called them to make sure there was no issues shipping to me. They said it was fine and everything will still be fresh. I tried them for 3 weeks and every time the vegetables were wilted, black or had fuzz. This company should not offer service to Texas I guess it is just out of reach to deliver fresh products. I have recently changed companies and to blue apron they check your zip code to ensure they can provided proper service within your range. Rather then ship to places that are to far.

  67. AN

I just signed up $29 aftee promo code. I chose the 3 meals for 2 people two times.
Here is a code 3EB7R9 for $40 off.

  68. SCAMMED BY HELLO FRESH

DO NOT SIGN UP WITH HELLOFRESH! They will steal your money! We bought the first box for $29 because a friend sent us a link. Sadly, the food was so disgusting that we threw 2 of the 3 meals away. How PATHETIC that even at $29 this company’s food WAS NOT WORTH IT! Then, we cancelled our future orders. Not only did Hellitain’tFresh take an additional $69 out of our paypal account they were already lining up a THIRD draft even though we had only received ONE order! We had postponed future orders until we tried our first box yet magically their site “overlooked” this and started churning out deliveries immediately. THIS CROOKED THIEVING COMPANY REFUSED TO RETURN OUR MONEY TO US!!!

As for the food….our first “specialty” box consisted of hamburgers (wow! original), shrimp tacos (disgusting) and a chicken dish that we only ate half of then threw the rest away. The tomatoes were gross. They tasted like cardboard. You can get better flavor from Wal-Mart (which is the bottom of the line!). The “special ground beef” was slimy, fatty, and grisly. I was raised on a working farm (we grew everything we ate) so I know what fresh ground beef is supposed to look, taste, feel, and smell like. The beef for the burger was embarrassing. This company should also be ASHAMED for sending out a freaking hamburger as a “specialty” item. EVERYONE has made stuffed hamburgers and we have made far more exciting varieties than simply sticking shredded cheddar in the center of it. The shrimp for the tacos……Let’s just say that properly cleaned and prepared shrimp should NEVER have feces left in it as well as bits of shell. It also should NEVER smell like certain body parts that are better left unmentioned. Anyone who has ever lived on the coast knows that fresh shrimp does NOT have an odor to it.

So now here we are….out a total of $100 on food that is not even edible. The owners of this company should hide their faces in SHAME. They are thieves and scammers. Stay as far away as possible!!!

    1. Harry Brisbane

The Offices and Packaging facility place is run by criminals out on work release. I would cancel that card & have a new one issued. I live down the street in Linden NJ and I’m afraid to walk in front of the building during the day. There was stabbing last week with lots of blood every where. Good friend is on the PD here and they are there at least 3-4 times a week.

    2. s. stephens

I hope you took up the charges with paypal!

  69. Mike

Beware of Hello Fresh! I used a groupon for 1/2 off and they still charged me 69.00. I paid Groupon $34.50 and was then double charged by Hello Fresh. To compensate this they agreed to send me a free box, but they charged me for that box also. They have refused to refund any money and will only offer to send more free boxes. I am sure that a charge will be issued for those also. This company is horribly run and will over charge for everything. Stay away!

  70. Heather

Just got Tilapia from HelloFresh that was a “Product of China”!!! To me that’s not “fresh” since it’s coming from a long way overseas OR a “trusted supplier”. I sent an email to them and received a response of “Our fish comes from highly regulated and sustainable farms. We source as much as we can from our USA vendors, though occasionally we do source internationally. We can assure you the fish you are receiving is of the highest quality and is safe to consume.” Color me skeptical of the regulations/sustainable farms over there.

    1. Harry Brisbane

If you saw what goes on in and around the building where your food is packed, the source of the fish would be your last concern!
      Disgusting environment.

    2. HelloFresh

Hi there– thanks for the feedback! This is Jordan from HelloFresh. Occasionally because of seasonal and regional constraints, we’re forced to import certain ingredients. You’ll be happy to know that we’ve stopped all fish imports from China after hearing our customers’ concers.

    Hi there all!

I just signed up for Hello Fresh and I LOVE it! I’m finally cooking at home most nights instead of paying to go out for unhealthy prepared meals! I recommend it for sure. I used the code 86F7PB and even got $40 off my first box (code never expires, so you can too!) ^_^

  72. Anita Lawrence

I tried Hello Fresh and the chicken was rotten. The “ice” packs were all melted. I am leery of trying the meats for the other two dishes. The company refused to refund my money, so buyer beware. When I told them I no longer wished to receive these meals, they said it was too late to cancel my order even though it was five days before the order would arrive at my house.

    1. HelloFresh

Hi there- Jordan from HelloFresh here! That’s definitely not up to snuff. Please email me at Jordan@hellofresh.com so that I can look into your account and make it right. I’d love to show you that this is not what we’re about!

      1. Anita Lawrence

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Do not trust them. They will waste your time and take your money with no shame.

  73. John Warner

Ordered up with a discount/promotion card for $29. Three weeks later I see a transaction in my credit card for $69!! Wow tiger! What happened here?!? Called them up and they said it was my fault for not having read Terms and Conditions in detail. Hmmm…..

The lady I talked to said that customers call about that ALL the time.

Cancelled my account and will never order again from them.

    1. Michael

We received a gift certificate for Hello Fresh, which turned out to just be a bill for $70. In order to use the gift certificate, we had to sign up for the service. After we received the first box – which had been sitting on our front doorstep in 102 degree heat for who knows how long, and the ice was melted and the food was spoiled – we realized we really did not want this service, as the recipes are somewhat bizarre and not very good. They sent the shipment on a Thursday. You have to cancel your next shipment by midnight on Wednesday. This means that they don’t give you a chance to see if you like it before the deadline to cancel the next shipment is up. This is a scam. And the customer service is nonexistent. So we were charged for another shipment. THIS WAS A GIFT! Now we are having to pay for a service we do not want. And a service we cannot afford. This company should be prosecuted for fraud. If you have to “trick” your customers into buying your product, chances are it is because your product is not good enough to sell itself.

      1. Harry Brisbane

Not Surprising, the place is filled with criminals on prison work release. Be careful of you credit card information. I Live in down the street in Linden where they just moved in and there are cops there at least three times a week. They work 24 hours and I wont go out at night past the building.

      2. HelloFresh

Hi Michael– Jordan, from HelloFresh USA here! What you received was actually not a gift certificate that the sender paid for, but a marketing offer which entitles you to try HelloFresh for free when you sign up for a subscription. When someone actually buys you a gift certificate, the recipient is except from the subscription policies. However, what you were sent was an introductory marketing offer.

We remind you of this at checkout (http://bit.ly/1RHHqb9) and in several reminder emails before cutoff. I’m so sorry you were caught off guard by this. Please email me at Jordan@hellofresh.com so that I can resolve.

    2. HelloFresh

Hi there– Jordan, the head of our community team at HelloFresh. So sorry about the trouble! We are a subscription service, and we make every effort to be transparent about this. In fact, we remind you on the deal itself, at checkout (http://bit.ly/1RHHqb9), and in two reminder emails between checkout and cutoff. So sorry you were caught off guard! Feel free to email me at Jordan@HelloFresh.com so that we can chat more!

  74. Brian

Beware of the fact that this is a subscription service that bills 2 weeks in advance. The price doubles from the intro rate. They will also send you whatever they feel like if they are short on ingredients. 2 out of three have been consistently good. Without fail there is always one “miss” that is horrible. When I tried to cancel, I was told that I had to remain in the system for two additional deliveries at $130 each and then my plan would cancel. Now I have to fight the charges on my checking account. Poor customer service.

    1. HelloFresh

Hi there– Jordan from HelloFresh here. To clarify, we bill on Thursday, the week before delivery and we must enforce a cutoff of Wednesday at 11:59pm, the week before delivery. We remind you of this at checkout (see: http://bit.ly/1RHHqb9) and in several reminder emails before cutoff. This is important because we work with small local vendors who require lead time.

  75. Harry Brisbane

Did you know they have convicted criminals on work release packing your food in Linden, NJ.There is a lot of police activity, stabbings, and fights. There was a stabbing and a lot of blood went all over the place.
I would be careful what you eat from this place!

    1. HelloFresh

Hi there– Jordan, the head of our community team at HelloFresh. As a former member of the Linden team, I can tell you that your claims are absolutely unfounded and untrue. All of our employees are carefully screened and background checked, and no such incident ever occurred at our kitchen.

  76. s. stephens

    don’tknow where my comment went.

suffice it to say this crappy company just ripped off my elderly parents and won’t refund their money.
dipicable. filing a complaint with bbb.

  77. Aimee

I got it too and was excited because I thought it would be great for something my son could do and learn to make meals. However, my box came over heated and I was home when it arrived and quickly went and grabbed it. I opened it right up and it STUNK, the contents had leaked all over everything. i even contacted the company to cancel my next one and not even ask for a refund for the poor packaging and they refused to cancel my next order. Even with my complaint.

  78. Kristi

I ordered HelloFresh and received a box of rotten food! The salmon was so fishy that my husband and I each took one bite and threw it away. The chicken was rancid when we opened the package and the figs were moldy. It took multiple emails to customer service to get any resolution. I immediately cancelled the subscription but their “cancellation deadline” is before your box arrives — nice little scam — so you can’t cancel after figuring out how awful the food is. So now, after throwing away a box of rotten food, I am stuck getting a second full-price box. Inedible food. Atrocious customer service. Stay away.

    1. HelloFresh

Hi there– Jordan here, the head of our community team at HelloFresh. That’s definitely not up to our usual standard! Please email me at Jordan@hellofresh.com so that I can make it right!

    2. Anita Lawrence

Aimee and Kristi- after a year, nothing has changed about this awful company. I received my package and the meat packaging leaked over all the food and they WOULD NOT refund it. They said the only thing they could do was give me credit for another box but that means I would have to pay full price. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE OF ALL COMPANIES.

SETH GOLDMAN IS DESPICABLE AND NEEDS TO FIX THIS.

  79. Robert Vincent

First of all, GREAT REVIEW! I have had them for 2 months, and my girlfriend and I love getting our box, and cooking together. It has really brought us closer together, and taught us some really cool yet easy recipes. The food is always fresh, and cold, even with the box coming to Phoenix! I used this promo code: CE6HNQ which gave me $40 off my first box.

With that promo code, my first box was only $29, and now I happily pay the $69 each week for the box, and it has been a great experience and HelloFresh really has great customer service.

    Happy Cooking!
    ? Robert

BEWARE!!!!!!!!! hello fresh will send you automatic food even if you put your food order on hold. they do not call you or email you telling you that they are sending meals that you dont get to pick out,but you will pay for the food you dont want. be careful

    1. Summer

This is true, and so infuriating. You can religiously log in and “pause” a week or two, but that doesn’t mean they will honor it.

    2. HelloFresh

Hi there– Jordan, from HelloFresh here. That’s actually not true– we’ll never send you a box for a week that you are paused or cancelled. However, be sure to pause by Wednesday at 11:59pm, the week before delivery to avoid being charged. Our small local vendors need this lead time. Also, if you have more than one subscription, you’ll need to go in and pause both separately. Please email me at Jordan@hellofresh.com and I can look into it!

  81. Yesenia Solis

  82. Alice

Hello Fresh talks a big pitch on their service, but when push comes to shove their service stinks! I had not updated my credit card and suddenly received a box one day – somehow getting through my charge card of old expiration and put on my account. Oh, but that wasn’t the end, the exact same box arrived two days later with the same foods and I was charged on my credit card again. So $139.98 within two days to Hello Fresh for meals that are far from worth the price. I contacted them via e-mail and they said “my fault” and would do NOTHING to rectify their mistake saying that they had credited me the second box. Simply a lie, because both boxes are on my bill from my company. As with many others, the food, especially the skimpy meat portions arrive looking like anything but meat. A company that doesn’t stand behind their promises needs to be put out of business.

    1. HelloFresh

Hi Alice– Jordan, the head of our community team at HelloFresh here! I am so very sorry you had that disappointing experience. That’s definitely not in line with the kind of service we typically provide. You can contact me personally at Jordan@hellofresh.com so that I can make it right.

  83. Lu Ann

I must be lazier than the rest of the world. I tried this for a week because they had a deal on Groupon. I picked 3 meals for 4 people for one week. I’ve made 2 of the 3 so far. I thought they were way too labor intensive. I was constantly prepping forever it seems. I was exhausted after having to wash, chop/dice, fry, bake prepare. And I had to use so many different pots and pans to make the meals. Agreed the recipes were tasty, but I really didn’t enjoy the experience at all. I can’t imagine paying full price. I think it would have been better if they had prechopped the veggies or something to cut down on the prep time.

    1. Summer

You should be mindful to cancel your account or you will have a delivery every week for the rest of your life.

      1. HelloFresh

Hi Summer– yes, we are a weekly delivery service, but we make it super easy to cancel your account with 1 week’s notice, and you can always skip weeks using your delivery calendar!

        1. Summer

You have a really hard job, Jordan.
I hope they pay you well on that sinking ship you are typing from.

          1. HelloFresh

Sorry you feel that way, Summer! I’m actually very proud of my job, and my company. I wouldn’t say that sinking ship either; we’re growing exponentially every week, on a path to become the nation’s leading meal kit delivery service.

  84. jon

I tried out the service. The first week wasn’t great. The vegetables were pretty obviously not fresh and the recipes read pretty awkwardly. We thought that maybe it was just a fluke and left the subscription going for a second week. We didn’t even receive the second order. I’d recommend avoiding the service.

    1. HelloFresh

Hi there– this is Jordan, the head of our community team at HelloFresh. So sorry about this Jon! Please reach out to me at Jordan@hellofresh.com so that we can chat and I can make it right!

  85. J.R.

    DO NOT SUBSCRIBE
We began Hello Fresh with a coupon as a gift to try out. It was fine, not a great value even with the coupon, but not terrible. We decided not to continue the service after the first meal, since we couldn’t justify spending $23 a meal that we had to cook ourselves, so we cancelled the order. The next month another box arrived and we were charged again and a few days later another box of food arrived. We contacted costumer service and they told us they would refund the our account. We were then charged again for the following week and refunded for one of the weeks. Upon contacting costumer service again (which don’t bother calling, they don’t answer after an hour and then hang up, the callback service does the same), I was told we were refunded for the food that never shipped nor arrived. So I was refunded for nothing. Their online cancellation that they claim is easy requires clicking cancel about 9 different times, they change the wording and move the cancel box around each time. They are clearly designed around their leaching business model more than they are about providing a quality product. Avoid this product at all cost. They are not worth the hassle.

    1. Jordan

Hi J.R. This is Jordan, the head of our community team at HelloFresh. So sorry you’ve had some trouble getting in touch. We pride ourselves on our fast, response customer care. However, because of some rapid growth in the company and issues relating to the storm, we’ve been having a temporary struggle in keeping up with high call and email volumes recently. Rest assured that we are increasing our manpower as we speak, in order to get back on track. Contact my team at communityteam@hellofresh.com so that we can look into it make it right.

It looks like you may have paused your subscription for several weeks instead of cancelling it. We have a weekly cutoff of Wednesday at 11:59pm, which is crucial to our small local vendors. We do our best to remind you of this at checkout (http://bit.ly/1RHHqb9). By the way, we never want our valued customers to cancel their subscription, but we make it very easy to do so online. It consists of 3 screens and a short survey at the end, not 9 clicks. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

  86. Yaya

I received a 3 FREE meals gift card with my fabfitfun subscription. Yes of course it was too good to be true…because it really was NOT three free meals! And no where on the card or the flyer does it say it was going to be a “discounted” meal…it clearly stated 3 FREE MEALS! Of course it’s not going to advertise what it really means!!!! What a disappointment

    1. Jordan

We apologize for any confusion, and will do our best to clarify. At HelloFresh, we define a “meal” as an individual serving of one of our recipes. Each box contains three recipes to cook each week, and each recipe creates two or four meals, depending on the size of the box you order. For example, the two person Classic or Veggie box contains six meals. For the promotional offer that states “3 Free Meals” towards your first 2-person box, the resulting discount is 50% because the three meals represent half of the six meals in the box. We hope this information helps – and please let us know if you need anything further.

  87. Laura Voyles

I agree. I was getting my food and loved it. So much so that I bought a $189 groupon for a family member. Since the purchase I caught them double billing me for deliveries. It took me a while to catch it. They did eventually refund me but I wonder how many people they do this to that don’t catch it. Plus I my last two deliveries had the wrong food. We don’t do sausage so those meals were useless. A lot of money down the drain. My brother-in-law went to redeem his groupon this Sunday. He entered the code at checkout , PayPal charged his $1 activation fee then sent him back to the site. When he went to order meals the computer said page error.,when he did a refresh it’s like the groupon disappeared. Now hello fresh is saying the groupon has already been redeemed. It’s very easy to see the new account was just opened Sunday, the groupon redeemed Subday, PayPal activation charge Sunday. They refunded the $1 activation but where is my $189. Fighting to get that back and had to go back to groupon because the customer service folks at hello fresh are idiots. I would stay away from this company!!! I plan to leave a review with groupon as well warning people not to buy them because they will get screwed out of their hard earned money and have to fight to get back!

    1. Jordan

Hi there– Jordan here, the head of our community team at HelloFresh. So sorry you’ve had some trouble here! To explain, as we mention, the Groupon is for new customers only, and redeeming it requires you to open a subscription. Because we are a weekly subscription service, each time you go through checkout, you are opening a new subscription. We do our best to make this as clear as possible both on the Groupon and the checkout screen at HelloFresh. As part of the team who created the Groupon, I can assure you that this is in no way misleading or deceptive.

Please email my team at communityteam@hellofresh.com so that we can look into it and make it right.

I was EXTREMELY disappointed! Many of the ingredients were changed completely. For example, the first meal I cooked was pablano chili. The recipe card said chili beans were included. I got black beans which called for quinoa which is something I don’t normally buy. I have sent a complaint to them with a request to be removed from the subscription service but have not received a reply

    1. Jordan

Hi Wanda– Jordan here, the head of our community team at HelloFresh. I am so very sorry you had some trouble with your ingredients. As someone who gets a box every week myself, I want to assure that this is not the quality standards our many customers have come to expect. I was able to locate your account, and I will reach out personally, to make this right/

    2. Jordan

By the way, I’m so sorry we haven’t gotten back to you yet! We’re famously fast to respond to phone calls and emails, but some recent production issues and rapid growth in the company have temporarily overwhelmed our customer care department. Please accept our apologies, and know that we are working day and night to get back to our normal level of service.

  89. A request to whomever is running the Hello Fresh Facebook page

Hello Fresh, please stop deleting negative comments from your Facebook page, and instead address them. People appreciate transparency vs. subterfuge; as a customer considering signing up, I know I would. Thank you.

    1. HelloFresh

Hi there– Jordan here, the head of our community team at HelloFresh. My team and I respond to every single post to our Facebook good or bad (and I mean every single one). We will ALWAYS followup by email with a resolution if we can locate the customer in our system. It’s our promise that we absolutely never delete posts as you suggested, but often times customers will remove or hide their comments once they receive a resolution from us (usually within an hour or so). Thank you for your feedback,

$105 on 3 meals for a family of four is very expensive for the food cost that is in the box. I will admit that the recipes have been very good. Just not certain this can be sustained at that price. You’ll eat lots of pork tenderloin and chicken breast, because those meats are relatively inexpensive (have yet to receive a beef dish) The third meal never contains meat so its ingredients are really cheap. For example: Penne with Swiss chard and wild mushrooms or stuffed zucchini. $105 is a lot to pay for recipe’s…although delicious.

  91. They suck. Don’t do it. Tired vegetables, canned vegetables… I got a gift card to try three free meals, but then when I went to redeem I had to buy three. This is bait and switch advertising. The your stuck with a subscription the is not cancelable easily. It had to call and talk the a supervisor who would not refund my money for meals I did not order. Not worth the money.

    1. HelloFresh

Hi there– Jordan here, the head of our community team at HelloFresh. I’m so sorry you had some confusion here. Just to clarify, if someone buys you a full-value giftcard, redemption does NOT sign you up for a subscription. However, if someone sends you an offer for a freebie box or 3 free meals, this is a marketing offer contingent on you singing up for a subscription.

This is definitely not a bait and switch tactic, and I’d be happy to explain why you were charged.

We are very transparent about this on the deal itself, at checkout, and via reminder emails before cutoff (Checkout screen: http://bit.ly/1RHHqb9). I’m so sorry however, that you were disappointed with some of your ingredients. Please contact my team at communityteam@hellofresh.com, so that I can make it right!

I am sharing this offer with you because Hello Fresh is a game changer, has completely rocked my household in the BEST way possible!!! My husband and I aren’t arguing over what’s for dinner, my kids are in the kitchen helping us cook, the variety and food quality is amazing, and we are actually saving money to boot! A friend shared with me and I’d love to share with you- you will love it and be obsessed with cooking like a chef!!! Enjoy 🙂

Think I will pass, I do background checks on everything now, to meany people are not honest.

    1. HelloFresh

Hi there– Jordan here, the head of our community team at HelloFresh. So sorry you feel that way Fred! We are absolutely a legitimate business with thousands of happy customers each week (myself included). Please know that comments on a blog are a very small snapshot of a business. We’d love for you to give us a shot, and we’re confident that you won’t be disappointed.

We tried Hello Fresh and Apron. I like Hello Fresh much better. I really like how they separate the items into their own meal box. We ordered the family meal for 4 and there is more than enough food–we often have enough for us all to eat another meal! This would be great to order for someone having a baby! It makes life a lot easier. You can use this code for $40 off your first order. 2YQYNK

Food was good but I was very disappointed. I ordered the vegetarian box for 2 and it was too much for me. I couldn’t cancel it in time and now unfortunately I have to deal with another box while I still have 2 meals in the fridge. Everyone in my house refuses to eat it since its vegetarian and I’m the only one who avoids meat. It’s also a little too expensive for me but if you have the money and actually 2 people I guess it’s good

    1. HelloFresh

Hi there– Jordan here, the head of our community team at HelloFresh. I’m so sorry to hear that you had some trouble with our subscription policies. Our weekly cutoff is extremely important for us, as we order our ingredients the next day, and our small vendors require a certain lead time to fulfill them. In order to make sure our customers are not caught off-guard, we remind you of this cutoff twice at checkout, and in an email before cutoff. We will pass your comments along to our team.

My evaluation of my first Hello Fresh delivery is the same as the reviewer. …very pleasantly surprised at the quality and quanltity.

My only negative comment is the estimated time for preparation. It took me right at 1 hour from start to finish and everything was done at the same time.
    \
So for me, they’re 1 hour meals, not 30 minutes even when you’re multitasking.

Does save a lot of time/frustration deciding re shopping.

Like the poster, I have decided to continue my subscription on an every other week schedule.

Received box, 7/6/16, ‘ice packs’ partially thawed, box wet/bloated, meat not cold, a very special treat of 2 flies were included. Disgusting.

Called customer service requesting a full refund of $105, a very nice agent took my complaint and let me know that she would be forwarding to the special projects payment team. Great, or so I thought. All I was offered was a credit of $65 for another go at a potentially unusable box of food. No thank you. I find this completely unacceptable and ridiculous.

    1. HelloFresh USA

Hi Becky! Jordan here, the head of our community team at HelloFresh. I want to personally apologize that you had such a disappointing first experience with us. I really want to assure you that this is unacceptable for us. The vast majority of our boxes arrive in pristine condition and at peak freshness. Just to clarify, there was a typo, and the credit you were offered covered the cost of an entire box ($105) not $65. However, I’m sorry to hear that this offer was unsatisfactory. I will personally reach out to make it right and follow up. Sorry again!

        Hi Jordan –

Just an FYI this was one of the response I received before Hello Fresh honored my refund request…

Here at HelloFresh, it is our policy to replace food with food. We do this by way of credits to the HelloFresh account for the equivalent value of the defective product. This procedure is outlined in our Terms and Conditions. At this time, a credit of $69 (the full value of the box) has been placed on your HelloFresh account. This credit does not expire and is available for use whenever you want to reactivate your account in the future. An error report has also been logged so that our team is aware of this issue and can take the appropriate steps to correct it going forward.

As I said, that was an unfortunate typo. She later clarified that the credit was actually for the full value of the box, not $69. $69 is the value of our 3×2 Classic Box, so the agent misread your account.

I had high hopes for Hello Fresh. My first order never arrived – turns out it was never shipped. Tried a second time for delivery yesterday – have not yet received. Customer Service says there was an issue in the distribution center. Will a third order that I have not yet placed be received? Only time will tell. Very disappointed so far.

I am terrible disappointed. Very deceptive e-mails and website!

I apply for a free box and then the company started charging without any consent. If the company’s strategy is to increase sales by these means, it will harm company image and sales in the long term.

Box are limited with low quality products.

Company has said it will refund money I will follow on that once the refund has been made.

    Please avoid!

We ordered the two week plan. Three of the meals were missing ingredients. I sent several emails to HelloFresh but received no response at all. The company refuses to acknowledge their failures. I did not receive what I paid for. That being said, I should receive a refund or new meals to fix the issues. Unfortunately, I haven’t even received a response. I cancelled the service.
