I wasn’t expecting it, but my July FAIRtreasure box also arrived while I was up-north. I was excited to see what goodies the box had in it this month. If you aren’t familiar with FAIRtreasure, their goal is to make it easier for everyone to explore the very best that Fair Trade products have to offer… and in turn, providing exposure and supporting the communities of people making these treasures.

The Box

FAIRtreasure ships via USPS Priority Mail and always ships in the same square boxes with FAIRtreasure stamped on the side. Seriously, although custom boxes are great sometimes they just aren’t in the budget, so this is totally the way to go!

July FAIRtreasure Box
First Look

I never have any idea what FAIRtreasure is going to include, but I was very surprised / excited by the first look! I never expected to see a card in this box!

The Information Card

Since FAIRtreasure includes information cards for each of the individual items in the box, they don’t do an overall information card listing the products.

~Jirmit Papyrus Group Birds of a Feather Card ($4.50): I don’t even know that I would describe this as a greeting card. It’s more of a piece of art. It’s hand painted in Egypt and the organization that represents these artists aims to generate work for unemployed young people in the Egyptian town of Mallawi – a place where jobs are scarce. I love this card and loved browsing through some of the other cards their artists make!

~Mata Traders Garden Party Necklace ($26): Mata Traders ensures that their workers receive living wages and experience safe working conditions and also guarantee that no child laborers are used to produce their products.  This necklace is pretty and I will try to make it a point to wear this.  For whatever reason, I find myself wearing bracelets all the time, but necklaces I have more trouble with!

~Crisil Srl. Blooming Bud Vase ($6): At first I thought this was just a “normal” bud vase, but after I read the card I realized I was totally wrong! Crisil Srl. uses recycled glass collected from local garbage dumps by small businesses that collect and sort the bottles. They then clean and melt the glass and make the vases in Bolivia.

All totaled I came up with a value of $36.50 for the July FAIRtreasure box. FAIRtreasure starts at $30/month, so this just proves that you are getting a great deal on the box. Plus, you are helping to support the people all over the world that make these goods, which is a good feeling!
