Peach Dish
PeachDish

I’ve been wanting to try out PeachDish for a while now, but never quite got around to ordering them. So when I heard they put the word out (on Facebook) looking for bloggers to try their boxes, I jumped at the chance. Now, you know I don’t often e-mail companies requesting to review boxes (I think I have done it once or twice), but since B and I have SO been wanting to try out PeachDish, I sent them a message. And happily they agreed to send me a box!

If you aren’t familiar, PeachDish is a $20 box of fresh, pre-portioned ingredients and a recipe for how to turn them into a delicious three-course meal. They deliver all over the country, however, unlike the other meal subscription box services out there, you do not get to select your meal. It’s a complete surprise every week!

The Box

PeachDish ships via USPS Priority Mail.  While I do love Priority Mail, I don’t know that it’s an amazing fit for perishable foods?  It’s fast, but it’s not that fast!

The Meat Package

Everything was packaged in a little insulted cooler “thing” which was inside the box.  I think there was an ice pack that separated the food from the meat, but I can’t totally recall.  The meat (in this case it was lamb) was inside of a sealed bubble envelope which also included an ice pack.  It was warm’ish out when the package arrived (mid-afternoon) and I opened it right away.  Everything was “cool”, but not at all chilly.  I was a tad scared that the meat and cheese could possibly be bad, but I determined that no, it was probably fine.  Had it arrived ANY later in the day or been any hotter out, I probably would have had to toss it.

Roasted Tomato Capreses Salad / Merguez Sausage / Lemon-Sugar Crepe – The Recipe

This week’s meal was the following three courses:
~Roasted Tomato Caprese Salad
~Merguez (lamb) Sausage
~Lemon-Sugar Crepe

Here are the details:

Roasted Tomato Capreses Salad / Merguez Sausage / Lemon-Sugar Crepe – The Ingredients

I was in a hurry to get everything in the fridge, so I didn’t even think to take separate pictures of the courses.  And then when B started making everything, I forgot all about it.

I kind of feel like lamb sausage is a bit of a wild choice, but then again PeachDish considers themselves to be an adventure.  I would have never ever tried “Merguez” if it were not for PeachDish! It’s spicy which I wasn’t expecting and let’s be honest, it’s not the most attractive looking dish.  However, it wasn’t bad at all!  B totally loved it and while I ate it, I probably wouldn’t have it again.  I tried it once and I think I’m good!  The potatoes were delicious, as was the caprese salad.  I’d eat caprese salad every day if I could. SO good!  The lemon-sugar crepe was good as well!

B and I really enjoyed our first PeachDish and will totally try them again!  Actually I think we are getting a box next week, so we’ll be trying them again soon.  I was a bit scared that you don’t get to select your meal, but it really does work out fine for B and I.  If we hate it, we hate it.  At least we’ll have tried it and we’ll know!  I do hope that PeachDish tries to figure out a better shipping solution though.  More ice packs.  Overnight shipping. I don’t know, but if it were in the 90’s here, I don’t know that my box would make it without spoiling!  Luckily winter is coming so that shouldn’t be an issue for a bit ;).
