Stitch Fix Review – November 2013

November Stitch Fix
November Stitch Fix

The October PopSugar Box included a $20 gift card to Stitch Fix and since it’s a box I’ve been wanting to check out, I ordered right away. Stitch Fix is a personal styling service for women. You provide your style, size, and budget preferences, and they will send you a package of stylish goodies to try on at home. There is a $20 styling fee that is applied to your order should you decide to keep any / all of the pieces and since that was the exact amount of the gift card we received, it was a no brainer to give it a go.

The Box

Stitch Fix ships via USPS. My “Fix” was scheduled to arrive on the 9th, but actually arrived a day earlier.

First Look

So I randomly logged into my Stitch Fix account the other day and saw a list of items that were included in my Fix and I just wasn’t excited.  Still I wanted to make sure I gave it all a fair chance, so I didn’t give it too much more thought until it arrived.

Stitch Fix
The Style Cards

Stitch Fix includes little style cards for each of the pieces in the Fix. They give you two different ways to wear each piece and include shoes and accessories selections as well.  Styling cards are also pinned to each item in the Fix.  The box also includes a price list which breaks down the cost of each individual item, as well as, what the cost would be if you got the whole thing.  You get a 25% discount if you purchase all of the items (that’s on top if your $20 styling fee credit which is deducted if you purchase any item) in your fix.  Here are the pieces that were included:

~Mo-Ka Lyons Faux Leather Jacket ($58): First of all this is the worst picture on the planet.  Sunshine plus my counter and a black jacket just don’t work out well. I thought that the jacket was okay, but the fit was boxy on me and way too short for my taste.  On other people I can see it.  On me.  No.

~41Hawthorn Cross Front Long Sleeve Blouse ($58): I don’t hate this print, but the style just doesn’t work for me.  It just hangs oddly and no matter what I wore under it, I know I’d feel awkward in it.

~Kut From The Kloth Crason FrontTwist Abstract Print Tank ($68): I *almost* kept this one because it looked cute under a cardigan, but even after the $20 credit I decided it wouldn’t be worth it.  I do love the print on this though and the length was great.

~Colorworks Thompson Boat Neck Sweater ($68): I love this color and the quality of this was fabulous.  But the boat neck part I didn’t love.  This sweater in a v-neck?  I’d be all over it and would want one in every color they made it in.

~Kut From The Kloth Danny 5-Pock Knit Pants ($78): I love these pants (they are a stretchy knit material), but I have a pair basically just like them ;(.  And in the same exact color (these are a dark grey).  Had they been any other color they would have been mine.

All totaled my Stitch Fix was valued at $330.  Should I have opted to keep it all, it would have totaled $232.50 ($330 – $20 styling fee credit – $77.50 Discount for buying all of the pieces) which I think is more than reasonable.  While I didn’t opt to keep any of the pieces this time, I already have my next Fix scheduled for December.   I plan to tweak my profile and give more detailed information so I can have a better chance of getting items that best work for me.  Since I used the Stitch Fix gift card from PopSugar, it didn’t cost me anything to try this out.  Typically you are charged a $20 styling fee, which like I mentioned previously can be applied to the item(s) you purchase from your fix.

I got my first “fix” in November as well. I LOVED everything in mine – the fit wasn’t great on 2 and 1 was too expensive, but I kept 2 and could see myself keeping all of them. The stylist mentioned on my card that my Pinterest board was really helpful – so if you have a style board on Pintrest – I’d like to that.

    1. Jennifer

I totally need to do that next time!

I also got a box but have been going around and around with them because I didn’t get credited for my Pop Sugar gift card. Ugh! I only kept one item, but loved some jeans that were too large. I have to see if I can find those jeans now!

    1. Jennifer

Boo! That’s not fair that you don’t get the credit. I hope it works out!

  3. Leanne

Oh, i LOVE stitch fix – don’t forget you can give feedback on each item.. what you liked/didn’t like and that will help too! My mom got 2 fixes so far and after her first one where she didn’t keep anything, and I helped her link up her pinterest board, she kept everything in her second fix! 🙂 I can’t wait to order my next fix as soon as I get home next week!

    1. Jennifer

That is so what I am doing next time. I left my feedback already. And I am so excited for my next one.

  4. Mary

I get my first one on Tuesday. I already peeked and love one of my shirts. The rest I am not sure about but will try them on when they get here. I was somewhat specific in what I was looking for in my comments. I.E. I am a teacher, so nothing low-cut and it needs to be comfortable.

    1. Jennifer

I need to be more specific next time!

I also got the Popsugar gift card and am getting pretty excited to get mine (should arrive next week!) I really need to up my wardrobe. I lost some weight since last winter and am desperate for clothes. I like the idea of Stitchfix helping me break out of my zip up hoodie and jeans routine. I’m just not sure I will want to pay the price on the clothes…because I’m cheap. LOL.

    1. Jennifer

Ohh, I can’t wait to see what you get!!!!

I also used my Stitch Fix coupon from my PopSugar Box and wasn’t very pleased. The clothes were ok with EXTREME prices. It looked like things i could pick up at Target! But at least i can say i tried it i guess!

    1. Jennifer

What kind of prices were your items? I didn’t think mine were bad.

      1. Sheena W.

Like $88 for some brown skinny jeans & $58 for a linen shirt. None of the items jumped out at me. I guess my expectations were too high. The thought of someone else, a stylist at that, picking out clothes for you and sending them to your doorstep is such a promising concept! I was just disappointed.

        1. Jennifer

If you don’t love it, whatever the price is would be too much!

  7. Cheryl

I also got the Popsugar gift card, and I couldn’t be happier with my Fix! I was super-detailed with what I like/don’t like and I also linked my Pinterest board. Hope you love your December fix! I scheduled one too as a Christmas present to myself LOL.

    1. Jennifer

That’s good to know. I need to start my Pinterest board!

    2. Iomay

I was super detailed as well. I thought for sure they were going to be overloaded with details but nope! They even sent me a top that would be OK to use when nursing (which I made a note of)!!

  8. Scarlett

I just got my first box this afternoon. I liked almost everything in my box with the exception of a chunky sweater that was a nice color but otherwise very unappealing. Unfortunately it appears all their items runs big. I received three tops and one cardigan and I was swimming in everything. Luckily they also sent a scarf which totally spoke to my scarf fetish. I’m keeping that but only because I also had that $20 credit from PopSugar. I also know our PS box will have a wrap, but I checked the spoiler first to make sure it wasn’t too similar. LOL. I’m going to give my feedback and revise my sizing and try again next month!

    1. Jennifer

How did you get it? Who delivered it? I got mine from the mail man. I need to mention my love for scarves next time!

      1. Scarlett

I’m pretty sure mine came FedEx because I didn’t recognize the guy as the usual mail carrier. The tracking info also didn’t show any transfers to USPS.
I don’t remember if I made special notes but I realize I only got tops and the scarf. No bottoms. Wouldn’t mind a skirt or some jewelry. Gonna have to go back and adjust my comments again… Lol

  9. Nicole

I have gotten 2 so far the first I sent three items back after that they were perfect and spot on. I think some are a little pricy because I opt for jewelry as well and dont think the prices match all the way. I do however love them so I end up keeping them. I love stich fix but have to reason with myself and only get a box every two months it does build to my wardrobe and their pieces I have not seen before so its a cheap price for a stylist. So happy you finally did it because I always read your blog and get ideas on what boxes to order.

    1. Jennifer

I hope my next one is better. I have been curious about them for a while, but the PopSugar coupon made it a no brainer to order!

  10. Diana

Just curious what price range you went with?

    1. Jennifer

I just looked and my price ranges were all over the place! I picked $150 – $200 in some categories and < $50 in others!

  11. Iomay

I just got my first fix on Wednesday and loved everything! They used my pinterest board which I think really helped and they definitely read the notes I had put in! I have a fix scheduled for December as well 🙂

Also, I had no issues with my popsugar credit – I applied one at the beginning when I scheduled my fix and then I was able to apply another gift card before I checked out.

    1. Jennifer

I’m seriously so excited for my next one!

  12. ashley g

I got mine on Friday and I didn’t keep anything 3 weren’t good fits, 1 was way too expensive for me, and 1 almost got, but it just wasn’t worth it after my credits (which was actually $65 because I referred someone and traded someone for a stitch fix card).

    1. Jennifer

Boo ;(. I wanted to keep something so badly. But there’s always next month!

  13. Kara Mishmash

Have you ever not received one of the items on the card? I got my first box today and a pair of black skinny jeans was supposed to be in my box but wasn?t. I was looking forward to them when I looked at my card and wanted to try them with 2 tops included (incidentally, those tops did not look good with denim imho and I own no black jeans at all). I emailed them to see if I could get those jeans and if they?d hold off till then for me to send it back, otherwise I will be returning 2/4 items I got. Being as I got my box 2 days before Thanksgiving, I don?t really have time to mess with wondering and didn?t know if you?d experienced anything like this or know of anyone who has?

    1. Jennifer

I only have received one Fix and everything was in it. I would totally contact them and let them know they were missing. I feel like if you sent it back without the jeans, they might think you kept them and never realized it was missing. I’d ask them to send the jeans and extend the return window so you can try on everything together!

  14. Jennifer R

I love my stitch fixes. I actually kept my first full box this past month. Every other time it has been one or two pieces. Also once you find a stylist that send you pieces you like (even if they don’t fit, or you don’t keep it all) you can request to keep them. If you want a stylist, who is great at listening what you say/request and amazing at finding fun casual pieces I highly recommend Maggie! She has nailed my style perfectly!

    1. Jennifer

Ohh, this is good to know! I peeked at my Fix this month and I am LOVING it. I can’t wait for it to get here!!!

  15. Angie B.

I got my first Fix through PopSugar and LOVED everything in it. I would’ve sent back one item, perhaps, but with the “buy everything” and PopSugar discounts, it cost less to keep it than return it. I, too, was very, very detailed with my sizing and preferences and linked a Pinterest board. At first, I didn’t think I could wear the dresses they sent, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I’m short and hard to fit and they knew just the right brands, textures and cuts to send. I even made a specific request that they fulfilled. Nothing needs to go to the tailor (that’s a first!) I scheduled a second one right away and can’t wait 🙂

    1. Jennifer

I debated sending one thing back this time but it just didn’t make sense. I can’t wait for my next one!
