Cultured Owl, who kindly sent me this box to review, provides an educational product focused on growing global citizens. Their Country Kits are recommended for children ages 5-10 years old, but are designed to bring the whole family together to explore world culture.
Cultured Owl ships via USPS and took only a few days to arrive. They ship mid-month and feature a different country monthly.
Everything came neatly packaged and although you can’t see it here, all the projects were in their own individual plastic page.
Cultured Owl includes a general information card about the Country Kits and what’s included and also includes a country booklet which discusses popular names in that country, children’s songs, holiday information, etc. Here is what was included:
Each box includes a a collectible trading card, a flag from that month’s country, a toy from that country and a recipe. The recipe this month is for Chicken Paella, which is amazing. I haven’t had it in ages and this makes me want to have it again!
Mosaic Tile Coaster:
The first project was making a mosaic tile coaster. The projects represent aspects of the host country culture. We thought this was a fun and easy project. All you had to do was glue the tiles on and that was it! I am going to have L paint the edges of this too. I don’t know what I didn’t think of that sooner.
~Project #2: Castanets:
The second project was castanets which are a musical instrument made from pairs of hollowed shells. L painted neon cars on his and was pretty pleased with his work. We had some trouble getting them together, but that was my fault, not the instructions! LOL.
Cultured Owl is $29/month and decreases to $25/month if you purchase the “12 month World Tour”. I think it’s a great way to learn a little about different countries in a way that’s fun and not too overwhelming! I should also mention that the box included an inflatable globe so you can easily point out the country you are studying. If you are interested in subscribing or just want to learn more, click here!
