January 2014 Birchbox Man
January 2014 Birchbox Man

Much to my surprise, B’s January 2014 Birchbox Man appeared in the mailbox today!  I wasn’t expecting it until at least Monday, but I was totally thrilled to see it today.

The Box

Birchbox ships via Newgistics which I believe is some sort of USPS handling service?  It took just shy of a week to arrive, which was about normal for them.

The Box in the Box

Unlike the December box (which was a special holiday designed box), the January box was back to normal.  I just peeked online yesterday to see what was in the box and was anxious to get a better look in person.

First Look

When you look online and “spoil” your Birchbox, it’s not really totally spoiling it because you don’t always know what sizes the products you are getting are.  I thought the first look was great because everything looked like a nice size from what I  could tell.

The Information Card

The January 2014 Birchbox Man theme was “Go Time” and was all about foregoing those vague resolutions and focused on getting up and getting moving!  Here is what was inside B’s box, which was Box #21 (*):

~Game Day Shower Gel: Body and Face Cleanser ($2.88):  I thought this was a nice size and it smells like peppermint to me.  It’s got pear cactus and black tea extracts and can be used on your face and body.

~Jack Black Beard Lube Conditioning Shave ($1.42):  Well word on Birchbox is that this stuff is amazing.  I saw the name and thought it was a cream to tame your beard, but it’s actually a shaving cream.  I do want to encourage B to NOT grow a beard and to continue shaving, but I kind of want to steal this for myself to try on my legs.

~MenScience Androceuticals Daily Face Wash ($7):  This smells clean and is suppose to exfoliate skin without sucking up moisture.  It’s an awesome size and I know it will be in B’s gym bag when he gets back into it after the new year.

~Reviver Dry Deodorant Wipes ($3):  Well I have never heard of such a thing.  They are wipes which gets the funk (workout, smoke smells, etc.) out of your clothes and / or hair.  I could have used these when L was little and used to spit up on my clothes before I went to work in the morning ;).

~LUNATIL Seismik for iPhone ($34.95):  I’m not totally sure how Birchbox knows B has an iPhone 5 (is that in my profile), but he does and actually doesn’t have a case for it, so this is awesome.  It’s a hardshell case with a shock-absorbent frame that provides spring-loaded protection from drops and dings without excessive bulk.  If B doesn’t use this, I will.  I kind of think it’s a bargain at $34.95 too.  If you go to the Apple store to get a case, you know it’s almost impossible to find one for less than $39 ;).

All totaled, B’s December Birchbox Man had a value of $49.25, (NOT including points for doing reviews and purchasing the box itself (**) – which would bring the value up to $56.25!  Birchbox Man is $20/month and as always, we thought it was totally worth the price tag.  I actually think that, thanks to the iPhone case, this was one of the best BB Man boxes we have gotten lately.  I peeked at some of the other lifestyle items (socks, a jump rope, boxers and knit gloves) and think that the case fit us the best this month.

(*) If you want to see all the boxes this month, click here and change the 1 at the end to anything from a 2 to 25 since there were 25 (down from last month’s 25 variations) box variations this month. If you can’t figure out which box number you got, login into Birchbox and then Click “Box” and select Men’s or Women’s. Scroll down a bit to were it says “Box History” and click the month of the box (in this case January 2013). The number at the end of the URL is your box number. B’s box ended in “january-2014-bb21″ which means he got box #21.
(**) You only get points for purchasing the box if you buy a prepaid annual subscription (or 3-month, 6-months, etc.). You don’t get points if you are on a month to month subscription.
