Today was a huge mail day here and one of the packages that arrived was my January 2014 ipsy My Glam Bag! You may (or may not) have noticed, but I’ve been labeling my boxes with the years now because I’ve noticed people have been getting confused. Hopefully this helps out with that!
ipsy ships via DHL Global Mail, which means it starts out with DHL and then ends up being delivered by USPS. It took about eight days to arrive this month, which is a lot, but is normal for ipsy / DHL.
The January ipsy My Glam Bag theme is “19 Reasons” and features “19 Reasons That 2014 Will Be Amazing” and lists a bunch of brands which I am assuming are their January brand partners? They don’t include a true information card with your products listed on it. That information can all be found in your account. ipsy sends out bag variations, via “ipsymatch”, which based on the preferences you enter when you take the ipsy quiz. There were 20 different products this month and, I believe, each subscriber received 5 of those items. I have no idea how many different variations of the bag that would make (a lot I would assume), but this is what I received:
~Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow (Penny) ($6.99): This is fun. It’s a shadow pencil on one end and a liner on the other end (ETA – no it does not have two ends! I just assumed the other end was an eyeliner? I just went to pull it off and it’s nothing!!! #smh). I will use the shadow side for sure. I love the color and am glad this was the shade I received.
~(MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito Lip Balm ($12): I feel like I am on an ipsy roll! Last month I received the Demeter Snow Roll-On I so wanted and this month I received the Mojito Lip Balm! SO lucky! This is fabulous. It smells good and makes my lips feel nice. And I already want more.
~Proactiv+Mark Fading Pads (~$2): I’m not sure how to value this since it’s not sold separately online, so I just guessed. I’m not sure if 4 wipes will make me notice a difference, but I love the idea of a wipe that will ” fade away post acne dark marks, reduce the appearance of fine lines and enlarged pores.” In fact, I would probably buy these if they sold them separately.
~Sexy Hair Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner ($3.59): I am certain that my hair could use a little extra conditioning and I’ve liked most of the Sexy Hair products ipsy has sent over the months. I don’t know if I would buy the full size bottle, but I do like the samples (which are a fabulous size).
~skiin Soothing and Smoothing Eye Cream ($14.98): This eye cream is described as a “full spectrum eye cream that instantly improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while working hard to reduce dark circles and puffiness.” I tested it out and it made felt nice, but obviously I couldn’t tell if it reduced any fine lines or wrinkles after only one use!
~The Bag: I don’t know that I have a feeling one way or another about this one. Once the smell wears off I will probably like it better. I don’t hate it now, but I don’t love it either. It’d made a cute travel bag for overnight stuff.
Bonus Gift:
~KISS Salon Secrets Nail Art Starter Kit ($9.99): This month’s bonus gift (which takes 1000 points aka 4 referrals or a ton of review to redeem) was a nail art kit. I am passing this on to a friend’s daughter or one of my cousins because I do not have the patience for nail art! I barely could handle nail stickers!
All totaled I came up with a value of $39.56 for the January 2014 ipsy My Glam Bag! And as always, I just don’t know how ipsy does it. They always have such an incredible value and while I may not always love everything, it’s totally worth that $10/month for me.

I’m pretty happy about it. I keep hoping for a benefit product… but, oh well. I can’t complain. Have used the leave-in conditioner and mojito balm(so far) and like both.
Omg i would love to be able to get that nail art kit!!! No one ever uses my referral links though 🙁 I guess that is why your bag shipped in the large brown envelope instead of the usual pink one?
Also, I seem to be the only weirdo who loves the “chemical smell” of the new bags lol! It reminds me of new pool toys!

Nicolette, just go to Amazon and buy it for cheaper there. I got 5 (2 way) dotting pens and 10 Color Rolls Nail Art Decoration Striping Tape for $1.99 (now they have increased the price to $2.80ish, free shipping). They have better brush sets for few dollars. This is very cheap kit (that takes hard work to get).
Boy, looking at the January bag I am glad I cancelled mine. Do you know how much crap you can buy with $10 on Amazon 🙂 10 pairs of eyelashes are $1.09 😀
I’m going to receive my first ipsy bag this month, but it hasn’t arrived yet. (The auto-correct keeps wanted to call it a tipsy bag!) I would really love to get that leave-in conditioner!

OMG I’m an idiot – I never realized the Elizabeth Mott was double sided until I read this. I opened the liner side and was like how the heck am I supposed to use this as shadow. Lol

That’s odd. I just checked my shadow stick and it only has product on one side.
I am so wrong. I only opened the big end (which I thought was the shadow) and just assumed the little end had a liner under it which I ignored because I didn’t want to try it anyway. It doesn’t!
lol I was so confused. I think this little joker has everyone confused though. I’ve seen so many people say they were throwing it away because it doesn’t twist up and I’m just like noooo sharpen it don’t waste it. 🙂

Oh it is NOT. I am the idiot! I pulled off the other end and it was empty. See I opened the shadow and thought where is the liner on this? And just assumed it was on the other end and didn’t bother to open it. It wasn’t.

I had to throw out the bag I received because it smelled so bad!!!! And one of my products leaked all over it. The makeup bag smelled like moth balls though 🙁

I received the smooth shadow pencil Elizabeth Mott, the same proactive wipes,Mica tinted lip balm, nourish organic face lotion and the Briogeo deep conditioning mask. Very different bag this time!

I got the lip balm too and wasn’t a fan. I think I prefer sticks of lip balm. I’d trade but I tested a little bit of it. I got the nail art too for my referrals. I’m intrigued.
Ohh, I like the gel / liquid stuff. Although I probably would have preferred a different opening. Maybe something slanted and smooth.

Our bags were so different. The only duplicate was the mojito lip balm. I like the size of the bag this month and think it will be cute with toiletries for travel but its really not the most exciting bag they have ever had.

I got the same bag as you. My favorite so far is the lip balm and shadow although I feel like an idiot I didn’t realize the shadow was 2 ended and I’m pretty sure I used the eyeliner side as shadow and kept telling myself how the heck is this eyeshadow and not eye liner. Duh self cause it was the eye liner side.

Absolutely love the lip balm! That alone made this bag for me. But I also received the shadow in penny which I love as well, and thanks a bunch because I had no clue it also had an eyeliner end!
