Fair Treasure, who kindly sent me this box to review, sends fair trade items such as jewelry, glass wear, pottery and paper goods, to your door each month. Their goal is to make it easier for everyone to explore the very best that Fair Trade products have to offer… and in turn, providing exposure and supporting the communities of people making these treasures.
FAIR treasure ships via USPS First Class Mail and always arrives within the first week of the month. I always say it, but think it’s important to mention that I’ve never heard of a shipment issue or a delay of any sort with this box. They are always on time and ship as promised.
The first look didn’t reveal much, but I thought I saw a cute card in there.
FAIR treasure includes a general information card and then individual information cards for each of the products in the box. They don’t do a monthly “theme” which I am guessing would be quite difficult to even attempt! Here is what was included in the February 2014 FAIR treasure box:
~Global Mamas Slippery Slope African Shea Body Butter ($12): Global Mama’s based in Ghana and assists its mamas in providing proper meals, health care and sending their children to school. This shea butter is fabulous and will happily use up every last bit!
~Greenola Style Calypso Ring ($16): This ring isn’t exactly my style, but I know I will be able to find a good home for it. This ring is made from up-cycled metals and semi-precious stones and was created by a family business in Bolivia.
~Sanctuary Spring / Good Paper Valentine’s Love Cards ($4.99): Love this card! It was handmade (on handmade paper) in the Philippines by women who have escaped prostitution. Sanctuary Spring offers programs which assist these women in their restoration process while also allowing them to provide and education for their families. This is B’s Valentine’s Day card for sure!
All totaled I came up with a value of $32.99 (subscriptions start at $30/month) for the February 2014 FAIR treasure box! Between the card and the shea butter, this was probably one of my favorite boxes from them!

This was my first box from them, and I loved it. My ring was very different from yours. It has a longer and thinner green stone, maybe malachite? and not as big of a base though it is still a big ring. My card is also different but cute. The best thing is knowing the history of the pieces. So far, so great for this. To me, this seems like a subscription I would be most likely to gift to someone else too.

Phew, I’m glad I let my subscription lapse! Shea butter doesn’t work on my skin (evaporates), the ring in any variation wouldn’t work either, and after a bunch of handmade boxes, I’m not exactly short on cards–lovely as it may be. This isn’t directed at Fair Treasure alone, but I think the suggested retail values are kind of off as I can find U.S.-made items that are similar for less. Or they’re just off. Umba included a brownie in their box, and they said it was worth $5. A look at the company website shows that it sells for $1.95. Ooops. Subscription boxes really run the gamut from bargain to bust.
Fair treasure doesn’t included suggested retail prices on their cards, I dig them up online. But I totally know what you mean. They are easy to verify so putting a wrong price on the card is never a good idea!!
