Carefree Crafts, who kindly sent me this package to review, is a monthly subscription service which delivers fun craft kits to your door every month (or a la carte). They are perfect for preschool and elementary ages kids (aka L) ages 3-7. Subscriptions start at $17.95/month and contain five (or more) complete craft kits.
Carefree Crafts ships via USPS First Class Mail. I live super close to the Carefree Craft folks, so my packages always come nice and quickly. I should mention that this package came at the beginning of February, but with all the craziness in February we didn’t get a chance to work on it before Valentine’s Day. Oops.
Everything comes packages in a large ziplock type bag and then the individual crafts are contained in their own sealed bags. We usually work on everything at once, but you could easily just do a few crafts at a time.
The February 2014 Carefree Crafts theme was “Love is in the Air” and included crafts you can play with, decorate your house with and give as gifts now, or later in the year. The information card also lists Valentine’s Day facts and trivia which I love reading. Here is what this month’s package included:
~Ladybug Valentine Mailbox: This “love bug” mailbox came preassembled and all we needed to do was decorate it. I really liked that most of the materials were self adhesive because I think that’s a little easier to work with.
~Handmade Valentine Cards: These mini little cards fit in the mailbox that can in the package and L had a great time stuffing them in there. He has a mini mailbox in his room and I need to really work on putting surprised and notes and things in there for him because he’d love that.
~Stuff Your Own Bear: OMG L was totally into this one. He stuffed the bear all on his own (while mentioning he wished we had a machine like Build-A-Bear does and thought it was cool to actually do everything himself. The bear even had a heart to put inside before sealing him up (it’s got a velcro closure)! We oped not to make the little vest for him because we liked him better without it.
~Beaded Heart Frame: L was all over this one too. I think maybe it’s because it was the messiest one of the bunch? We used the paper plate that came in the package to contain the mess though and it worked fairly well. Believe it or not, we probably should have used more glue on this to make everything stick better. Not more glue than came with the package, just more glue than we used.
~Long Arm Gorilla: Not my favorite craft, but L thought it was funny. It was easy to make as well, which we both liked.
~Ladybug Tic-Tac-Toe: I made this one and then L and I played a few games of tic-tac-toe. He’s still working on perfecting his game, but sometimes he does win even without my assistance.
