April 2014 Hazel Lane (City)
April 2014 Hazel Lane (City)

Hazel Lane sent me a box to review last month which I totally enjoyed and when I saw the spoiler for the April box on their Facebook, I knew I had to subscribe myself.  Plus, I really like the idea behind Hazel Lane and the founders (Sam and Ashley) seem really cool, so why not?

If you aren’t familiar, Hazel Lane sends a carefully curated box of surprise goodies from that month’s selected city that they think represents its spirit.  The idea is to give you an affordable way to explore the world without having to leave your house!  Items you can expect to see included are food, drink, clothing, accessories and handcrafted items chosen by locals with the environment, social responsibility and CHICNESS in mind.

The Box

Hazel Lane ships via USPS Priority Mail.  The April box as a bit late because a mix-up between warehouses (something like that), but their communication on the issue was awesome.  They sent an e-mail giving us the option to have our box shipped right away and have the late item shipped separate or wait and have the box shipped in full.  I think I forgot to respond (nice huh?) so my box was shipped all at once, which was what I was going to pick anyway.

First Look

The first look told me nothing!  I knew what the city was for this month so even that wasn’t a hint to what could be inside the box.

Second First Look

I am sure this looked much neater before I ripped into it, but I couldn’t help it!  I needed to see what was inside.

The Information Card

The April 2014 Hazel Lane destination city was “Brooklyn” and OMG is this not the cutest information card?  I love it.  And even though I did swear I wasn’t saving information cards anymore, I just might have to save this.  Don’t tell B.  Ha!  Anyway, here is what was included in the box (I have a subscription for the “City Explorer” box):

~EBBA – Miss Marissa Roll-On ($18): Oh, this scent is delicious.  Totally like nothing I have ever smelled before.  It’s a combination of Plum Blossoms, Moroccan Mint, Gardenia and Myrrh.  Reading about the scent doesn’t really tell me much (can you tell what a scent smells like just by reading the notes in it), but smelling it?  Yeah, I love this.   I cannot stop smelling my wrists.  I just cannot.  Amazing stuff!

~Claudia Pearson Tea Towel ($16): This is the reason I decided to buy this box.  I don’t need any more tea towels, but this was just too cute not to get.  The designs on the towels are awesome and I don’t exactly know where I am going to put this, but it’s not going to be hiding away in a drawer I can tell you that.

~S.W. Basics (Make-Up Remover) ($7): I love this line and every time I get something from it, it makes me want to try more.  Everything is organic & fair trade and comes in these fabulous glass bottles which is rare these days.

S.W. Basics (Make-Up Remover)

~Baggu Bag ($8): I have lots of Baggu bags, but none in this shape!  It’s like a cat dopp kit.  LOL!  I’m going to use this one for the kids toiletries for up-north and when we travel so I don’t have my bag jam packed with my stuff and theirs.

~Tattly ($5): These are, by far, the coolest tattoos I have ever seen. They are printed with 100% vegetable ink and are designed by Brooklyn artists!  L is going to flip for it!  And if he likes it, WB will like it was well. I love that they are a set of two so they can have matching friendship bracelets.

~Bonus Gift: Salty Road Salt Water Taffy ($6.50): I am not sure if this is my bonus gift because it’s my first box or because the box was late, but I will take it!  LOL!  We have received this in a few other boxes (Fancy Food Box and the PopSugar resort box come to mind) and B eats it up!

Salty Road Salt Water Taffy

All totaled I came up with a value of $60.50 (that includes the Bonus Gift) for the April 2014 Hazel Lane Box!  I am going to keep with this subscription for a few months to see what they do next.  They seem to pick items that I would pick (except I don’t always know about them to be able to pick them), so it’s a good fit for me so far.  And seriously, that perfume.  I just smelled my wrist again.  Wow.

What do you think of Hazel Lane? If you are interested in subscribing or want to learn more, click here.  Their May destination is “Gold County” and in addition to the City Explorer ($39.99) subscription (which is the one I have), they offer a Mini Explorer ($19.99), the Kids Explorer ($19.99) and a Deluxe Explorer ($59.99).  Shipping is additional and you are able to customize the size, gender, etc of the box.
