PetBox, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a monthly subscription box for pets (dogs or cats) that allows you to select what items you wish to receive in your box!  They are the only box (I believe) out there that allows you to do this. You get six “points” to spend to build your box with whatever you choose.  You can also opt for a “Surprise Me” box in which PetBox will hand-select your items for you. You can opt for a dog box, a cat box, or a combination dog / cat box.

The Box

PetBox ships within 48 hours of ordering and says to expect your box in ten business days or less (depending on your location).

First Look

My box is sent for review purposes, so I receive the “Surprise Me” option. I would probably opt for that regardless because that’s a lot of the fun in subscription boxes for me. You just don’t know what you will get! Plus, I typically receive more than the six credits allotted if you pick your own items in the “Surprise” boxes.  PetBox indicated that the amount of “points” included in the Surprise box option depends on their inventory for the month.

The InformationCard

Since PetBox boxes are customized, there is no true information card.  And if you opted to select your own box, you know exactly what you picked, so there really isn’t a need either.  Here is what our May 2014 PetBox contained:

~Crunch Woofs Snacks (2 pts) (~$7.99): I can honestly tell you that I have never put anything in the microwave for my dogs.  Once you start making them they transform into crunchy, crispy, treats. I am going to share these with my brother and his dogs because I can’t keep these cool ones just for us! We want to share.

~slurpabowls (1pt) (~$4.99): I thought the picture of the bowl on the box was just a picture, but no, the bowls are actually shaped like little dogs when you fold them all out.  So cute.  I am going to use these outside this summer.

~Slurp n’ Fresh Oral Hygiene Solution (1pt) ($9.99): On the day this box arrived, B actually looked at Baxter and told him he had bad breathe.  I was like, wait, I have something for that!  I have yet to notice a big difference (it’s only been a few days), but I am not giving up!

Slurp n’ Fresh Oral Hygiene Solution

~Hydro Ball Dog Chew / Pet Toy (~1pt) ($8.99): I would tell you how the dogs like this, but I have no idea since WB stole it and claimed it as his own. He barely let me take a picture of it!  He wanted it that badly!  If Baxter and Buddy love it half as much as him, it’ll be a win.

Hydro Ball Dog Chew / Pet Toy

~O’ Tom Tick Twister (1pt) ($5.99): I really hope that I do not ever have to use it, but I suppose it’s only a matter of time! It will be great when one of the boys needs this.

~Red Barn Naturals Stewey Louie (~1pt) ($2.59): Baxter and Buddy rarely get canned dog food, but when they do they go crazy for it!  Buddy’s birthday is next week, so maybe this will make for a nice birthday surprise.

Red Barn Naturals Stewey Louie

All totaled I came up with a value of $37.95 for the April 2014 PetBox.  It was valued at 7 points and once again, PetBox has said that the “Surprise Me” option may have more than 6 points in it depending on their inventory for the month. But with the custom option you will get exactly what you want.  PetBox is $39/month (and drops down to $29/month with a 12 month subscription).  This wasn’t my favorite PetBox to date, but everything was very usable and WB really does like that ball!

Fuzzy Baxte!
