Summer 2014 FabFitFun

Yay!  Today’s mail haul was amazing which is just the way I like it!  One of the many packages I received was my Summer 2014 fabfitfun box.

If you aren’t familiar, fabfitfun is a quarterly monthly subscription box that includes hand-selected items (the “hottest of the season”) in beauty, fashion, fitness, and wellness from Giuliana Rancic and the fabfitfun team. fabfitfun is $49.99/quarter and just announced that beginning with this Summer box, they are shipping to Canada!

The Box

fabfitfun ships via USPS Smart Post and took the standard week to arrive.  I think they shipped in waves because I know that some people had received their boxes already and mine hadn’t even shipped yet!

First Look

I knew what was in this box (fabfitfun released three of the items in advance and I stalk for spoilers), but I was SO curious to see what variation I received for one of the items.

The Information Card

The Summer 2014 fabfitfun included the following items for summer:

~Sonya Dakar Flash Facial ($95): I actually got sent this to test out from the folks at FFF last week and have been quite pleased with it so far.  I was worried at first that it would burn or tingle or make my skin super tight or something when I put it on, but it didn’t.  What it did do was leave my skin nice and soft.  I can’t wait to see how the results look after a few weeks.

Spnya Dakar Flash Facial

~Pur-lisse SPF 30 Daily Essential Moisturizer ($55): Pur-lisse has been everywhere lately!  I don’t necessarily mind getting more of the same products I have gotten from other boxes, but of course I would prefer something totally new.  I’ll either keep this one in my stockpile or I will pass it on to a friend or to my mom.

pur-lisse pur=protect SPF30

~Thursday Friday Mini Clutch ($35): This wasn’t my favorite pattern for the bag, but it wasn’t my least favorite either. I like the clutch a lot and will probably end up trading for a few more of these. No idea what I will do with them all, but I like them!

Thursday Friday Away Mini Clutch / Makeup Bag

~Balanced Guru No Frizz Oil ($25): My hair to pretty much straight and flat (without all my sea salt sprays anyway), but my fly-aways are crazy if I don’t put some sort of oil on there or something.  I tested it out right away and it did it’s job nicely.

~FabFitFun Water Infuser BPA-Free Water Bottle ($15): I could do without the saying on here, but the actual bottle itself is cool.  I did just get a bottle in my PopSugar box and I just bought an infuser, but that’s fine by me. I have half dozen mason jar mugs, so why not three different infusers?

~Zoya Nail Polish ($9): I just spent way too much time organizing my nail polish the other day, but I am happy to make some adjustments for this.  I love the color (although I have no clue what the name is since it doesn’t say) and I always am pleased with the Zoya formula.  It’s very consistent between colors and they always have great sales.

~KISSTIXX Lip Balm (Chocolate / Strawberry) ($5.99): I like this because it was on Shark Tank (I love all things Shark Tank even if they don’t get a deal) and because it’s lip balm.  I am probably outside their target market, but I don’t care, I think it’s cool anyway.  B isn’t addicted to lip balm like I am, but I think he will make an exception for this.

~POPChips ($1.29): I love POPchips!  Sure they aren’t anything new, but they are pretty darn good.  Have you tried their tortilla chips?  They are actually even better than the regular chips.

~Skintimate Shave Gel ($1.99), Always Xtra Protection Long Daily Liners ($1.50), Slimfast Have Your Cake Meal Bar ($1): There has been a lot of talk (generally not so good) about these “sponsored items”, but I don’t mind them.  To me they are just extras.  I am guessing that these companies paid for placement in the box which helps pay for shipping and all that other good stuff for fabfitfun.  They make up less than $5 of the value of the box, so it’s not as if they were half the boxes value or anything crazy.  Now if I was giving this as a gift maybe I would have felt a tad differently, but I’m not sure.  But if you don’t think you’ll use them, drop them off at your local women’s shelter. I am sure they would be thrilled to get the donation!

All totaled I came up with a value of about $245 for the Summer 2014 fabfitfun box.  Was it my favorite fabfitfun box ever? No!  I think maybe a fun makeup palette or a summer tote would have worked nicely in here.  It just needed something else to totally WOW me.  But I did think it was easily worth the $49.99 cost of the box.  The pouch and the flash facial alone are worth it to me.

Did you get the Summer 2014 fabfitfun box?  What did you think?  What pouch variation did you get?  If you are interested in subscribing or just want to learn more, click here.  You can also use the coupon code “FLASH10” to save $10 off your first box which makes it only $39.99!  Ohh, and I should also mention that all subscribers who have been with fabfitfun since last summer got an e-mail with a code to send a free Summer box to a friend!  How cool is that?  I am giving away another box I purchased here, but who knows, maybe a friend will gift you their free box!

I got my box today too. I got the same items, except I received the pink Diamonds Here pouch. I’m not a pink fan, and would have preferred the teal. Overall, though, the Sonya Dakar facial was worth the price of the box.

    1. Jennifer

That’s not a bad one. I think I like the peacock the best though!

    2. Catherine

Susan would you be interested in a trade? I have the teal one

  2. Laura K

I liked this box for the most part. Two personal-care items will go on vacation with me for sure. I got the pink purse clutch and purchased a wristlet with the discount code. My dad ate the bar, but the chips and lip balm (totally worthless sunscreen protection) went in the trash. Nice skin care products, and I’ll probably donate the bottle as I don’t even use the two I already have stored away.

    1. Jennifer

How much did the wristlet end up being with the code?

  3. Loren

I got everything the exact same color/flavor as you, the zoya is “Thandie,” I’m guessing the sticker with the name just fell off the bottom of your bottle.

    1. Jennifer

I am hearing Maya and Thandie?? I need to look online to see what I think mine looks more like.

  4. Teena

The nail polish is Maya. I received the same clutch as you, I so wanted a “Lips Away Clutch, Red? design. The water infuser I love those and so does my oldest son since hhe feels he needs fresh squeezed lemonade everyday. I like the concept of adding something for the partner. 🙂

    1. Jennifer

Are you going to use your code to buy one???

        1. Jennifer

No. The clutch. The box came with a code for that site.

        2. Teena

          No,
You can have it I just swapped for the clutch I wanted. 🙂 I am going to purchase my Mom a box. 🙂

          1. Jennifer

Everyone’s box had a coupon. I was just asking if you were going to use the code you got to buy a clutch.

        3. Teena

I thought the codes would be different that’s why I offered. Plus you said you wanted more and I do have mine up for swap.

  5. Sarah Srsen

I am a new subscriber to this box and I really liked it. My nail polish looks the same as yours and the name on it is “Thandie”. My pouch has the pink design. I was happy that the pouch feels so well made.

    1. Jennifer

      Someone else said Maya??

  6. Judy

I got the same clutch as you! I had the same feeling as you did. Not my fav (feather), but not my least fav either (pink bag)! My nail polish said “Maya” on the bottom and is a pretty pink-coral orange. I was surprised by the sizes of the products though! For the price-point I expected them to be bigger! lol. I read the oz sizes online, but I just can’t ever seem to form a proper mental size until it’s in front of me. Maybe that was another gripe people had with this box? The sizes of the sponsored items seeming bigger than the higher-end items even though they really aren’t? I think that was one of the reasons everyone was so upset about that Dial soap in Popsugar’s February box (which I actually enjoyed to the very last drop). lol. I agree with others that have mentioned separating the sponsored items visually with a bag could make a big difference in people’s first impressions of a box in the future.

Overall I think this is an ok box. I love the moisturizer, facial and oil, so it’s a win for me, just not my favorite box. Spring’s box was a home run for me. I’ll have to see if anyone wants to trade their feather clutch for this one though! The feather one is adorable!

    1. Jennifer

I am cracking up because you are the third person who got the same polish as me and they are all different names!

    2. Jennifer

And yes, that dial soap was super big, but it was still only like like $3, so it didn’t matter to me because what other $3 item would have been super amazing instead??

      1. Judy

Lol I’m so curious whether you have Maya or Thandie for the polish now. Thandie I think is straight up orange. Maya is pink-orange. Hard to tell from the photos which you have! Definitely agree about the Dial. I actually liked how soft it made my skin this summer and with that $3 price point it didn’t matter if I slathered on more than usual. 🙂

        1. Judy

          *winter not summer. Lol

        2. Jennifer

I feel like it’s more orange???

  7. Beth

I finally cancelled my subscription after a year of these. Its not horrible, but I’d rather put the money towards Nina Garcia Quarterly (especially after the $10 price increase to $49.99). Also, I never get any sort of fabfitfun shipment notification which is beyond frustrating!

    1. Jennifer

      That is frustrating!

  8. Shannon

I need to throw the Zoya nail polish name into the mix that I received- I got “Elodie”. The sample of Skintimate I got was for sensitive skin (purple) . I like the sponsored items- they make the box seem really full. As for the clutch….I got a Watercolor floral clutch. I would have LOVED to have received the Octopus clutch, but I don’t know if that was even an option. I would love to trade out this floral clutch. The Kisstixx flavors I got are Sweet and Sour!

    1. Jennifer

I need to work on my color mystery.

I was checking out all the pictures of boxes on Instagram last night and I only saw about 6 different pouch variations. No Octopus ones!

  9. Bethany

Hmm for whatever reason, I haven’t liked a lot of my boxes lately, and I was really let down by this. I have the whole thing up for trade! I also canceled FFF. I dunno, maybe I’m just getting more picky! Some of the beauty items really intrigue me, but I think maybe my expectations were too high? I’m sure this is a great box for the right person! But I just wasn’t really feeling it. However, reading your review, I am considering keeping at least some of the items, because they are pretty cool!

    1. Jennifer

I think I am going to have the biggest mini shoe collection in the midwest. No one seems to want theirs and I am so into them. LOL!

  10. Liz

Oh my goodness, I hadn’t realized the price was increased. I got my box today. I can’t believe I paid $50 :(. Worth $40 to me, but not $50. My water bottle was chipped. I’ve contacted CS, hopefully they resolve it. Not really impressed. I tried to cancel last time, but their website is not ipad friendly and my desktop is ancient and a pain to use, so I just kind of forgot to cancel :(. I got the same bag as you, and I oddly like it. Otherwise it’s just skincare (which is fine) and a cheap plastic bottle I won’t use.

    1. Jennifer

I feel like I didn’t realize it went up either! Did it just increase for summer? Where have I been?

  11. Liz

Oh, I forgot about the hair oil. I’m looking forward to that. If that helps with my fly aways, it may be worth the purchase of the box.

  12. Jessica

I received the same print for the pouch as you, and though I wasn’t a huge fan, my mum loved it, so she got a gift.
This was my 2nd fabfitfun box, and even though I didn’t like it as much as the Spring box, the value of the facial made it worth it. I would have also loved a summer tote.
And I know I’m probably very much in the minority, but I love getting a box without a makeup palette. I’m black, and most of the boxes I see reviewed really don’t have makeup colors (especially lipstick) that I find flattering to my skin tone.
Thanks for all the great reviews!

    1. Jennifer

I didn’t mind the lack of a palette either! We have gotten so many recently!

That’s no good when you can never use them at all! I hope you are able to at least trade them for some better items!

    2. Liz

I agree! I am so tired of make up in these boxes. I’ll take skincare and hair are over makeup any day.

  13. Jen Leonard

I like the pouch I received (teal purse on the front), but they sent me vanilla and cinnamon chapsticks. I am HIGHLY allergic to cinnamon (autumn sucks for me). I took that as my sign and decided to cancel. I also didn’t realize the price increased until now. It’s definitely not worth $50 and I am totally jealous of your Nina Garcia box, and have to subscribe to that one now!

    1. Jennifer

I can’t believe I let two Nina Garcia Quarterly boxes pass me by!

  14. PA Anna

    My vote is Thandie 🙂

My sister received her box today that I sent her. We both received the same pink purse bags and Thandie nail polish. Kisstix sister – fire/ice which is hot cinnamon and cool vanilla. I received raspberry and lemonade which the boys are using She likes her flavors.

It was a fun box. I ordered it for myself because I wanted the Pur-lisse and Flash Facial. I ordered a box for my sister after I received mine because I knew she would like the items.

I will be waiting for spoilers for the next box before deciding to order again.

    1. Jennifer

Your flavors sound great! I might have to find those.

  15. Blessedmommi

I wished I had gotten the peacock feather clutch I got the flower pattern, which isn’t bad I just was hoping for the feather!
I have a $15 off code if anyone needs it. It’s good for 3 uses.
