L’s August 2014 Nerd Block Jr. arrived yesterday! It’s probably his favorite box that he gets because it’s full of “stuff” which of course he loves!

Nerd Block Jr. is a monthly surprise box for kids! It’s is specifically designed for children (you can opt for a Boys Block or a Girls Block) aged 6-11 and is filled with toys and games just for them.  They also offer an adult Nerd Block for $29.49/month (that includes shipping) and a Horror Block which is filled with “gruesome horror toys”. This Block is a Boys one for L, who is 6.

The Box

Nerd Block Jr. ships from Canada and took under a week to arrive to me.  Which, as always, is amazing since it takes some boxes almost two weeks to get to me and that’s just shipping from state to state.

First Look

I’ll admit that I was a tad scared by the first look!  LOL!  Look at that thing! I always mention it, but Nerd Block Jr. doesn’t have an information card. The contents are, however, listed on the customs sticker on the front of the box. Here is what was included in the August 2014 Nerd Block Jr. (Boy) box:

~Spiderman Project-A-Lite ($6.99): I think we have (had?) a Batman one like this, but I don’t recall where it is right now.  I do know that the boys thought it was super fun to play with!  I also know that if I cannot find that one, I will be buying another one so they each have one.

~Super Mario Bros. Deluxe Enemy Danglers ($3.99): These are tiny little guys!  L never really cares which item he gets in a mystery pack and always seems to be excited regardless of which it is.

~Skylanders Giants Flingers ($5): I thought this was just a stuffed toy, but it turns out it’s a pencil topper, which makes it way cooler!  I don’t think L knows about Skylanders, but he thinks this creepy guy is cool.

~Angry Birds Star Wars Phone Danglers ($2.99): Ahh, it took me a minute to figure out how to use a phone dangler, but I am with it now.  It has a little thing that you plug into your headphone jack to connect it.  I am so old that I remember when cell phones had a little loop thing right on them!

~Ben 10 Omniverse Khyber & Ben ($17.99): Ben 10 is another series that L isn’t familiar with, but he thinks these guys look cool.  WB is partial to the “doggie”, but I think L thinks the other guy is cooler.

~Owl Fun Summer Fun Activity Book ($5.99): We got a similar activity book like this last month and L hasn’t even come close to finishing that one, so this one will get saved for winter when all we can do is dream about summer.

All totaled I came up with a value of $42.95 for the August 2014 Nerd Block Jr. and I think it may be one of the most valuable ones we have received to date!  I am so hoping though that they start to do some Minecraft stuff in these blocks because L is so so so addicted and would go crazy to see it in a box.

We got ours yesterday too. My son LOVES that he gets a box. Of course, he thinks he needs a cellphone now since he got a phone dangler. LOL!

HA!!!!! My son thinks he needs a phone too. I think not.

We signed up for a girls’s NB Jr. box and this month we got a few of the same things (the Mario keychain, the Angry Birds figure, and the plush) but also got a Littlest Pet Shop and a Barbie megablox grab bag. It is perfect for us because my two kids can split the toys (I have a 7yo girl and a 2yo boy). This is one of my fave sub boxes out there — everything is liked and used!

I think it would be awesome if they did a split box!

I saw spoilers of the girl box and they got a few of the same items….which I find to be strange. It upsets me since I think before the girls box have been pretty girly if you will.

What was the same? I need to look.

I got the mario, skylanders, and angry birds all the same (well not sure same characters). I got a barbie lego set and my littlest pet shop in lieu of the other items. It’s not a huge deal since I have tons of nephews to give them too, but I got the girl box specifically for my daughter’s birthday and she isn’t into any of those things.

I wonder why they did that this month??

Our box arrived today. The boys are into Skylanders which adds up because you have to buy different Skylanders to unlock different levels. He received different variations of the items that are listed. The only one I know the name of is the Angry Birds Luke Skywalker. My little guy is quite happy.

Jennifer – I think they responded to some of the comments on both twitter and Facebook about doing a box suitable for boys AND girls but think they took it a bit too far to the boys side with the Skylander, Super Mario AND Star Wars Angry Bird. Had it been slightly more generic then it would have worked.

It was my first box for my daughter (4) and while she was really excited about it, the phone danglers will end up on her Mummy and Daddy’s phones (she doesn’t have one) and the Skylander pencil topper will likely end up at the back of the cupboard as she wasn’t that impressed – not helped that I had no idea who the figure was so couldn’t answer when she asked!

Will see what next month brings…

This was my first box and I’ve already cancelled my subscription. I couldn’t decide to get the girls box or the classic but ended up getting the girl themed one since I thought my 9 year old would like the girly things more… only to get it and most of it was for boys. It looked like previous girl boxes were really over the top girl, which she would have enjoyed more. I wish they hadn’t changed that.

That’s too bad! They should do a combined box and then separate boy / girl ones!
