PetBox, who kindly sent me this (Premium) box to review, is a monthly subscription box for pets (dogs or cats) that allows you to select what items you wish to receive in your box!  They are (I believe) the only box out there that allows you to do this. You can opt to select your own items this month or you can opt for a “Surprise Me” box where PetBox will hand-select your items for you. You can opt for a dog box, a cat box, or a combination dog / cat box. I receive the “Surprise Me” Dog Box to review on a monthly basis.

The Box

I receive my PetBox via FedEx during the first half of the month, but my box is a review one so I am not sure how regular subscribers receive theirs.

With the “Surprise Me” option, PetBox selects your items for you.  If you opt to select your own items you are allotted 800 points and are able to “shop” with your points (items are assigned point values in the store).  Someone reported last month that they were able to select 6 items with their points, but of course this would fluctuate based on what you select.

The Information Card

Since you can customize your box and because “Surprise Me” boxes are customized to your preferences, they don’t include an information card.  My box isn’t totally customized to me, it’s more of an example of items you could select for your box.  Here is what was included:

~Clean Paws Doodie Bags ($5.99): Who doesn’t need doodie bags?  That name cracks me up.  LOL!  I think it’s cool that they are made with recycled plastic and fun that they are scented.  Well, as fun as “doodie” bags can be anyway.

~Alcott Essentials Adventure Bowl ($9.99): These always come in handy, especially on long car trips or walks.  You can easily fold it up and store it away in your bag or even the bottom of a stroller.

~BePawsitive Oven Baked Dog Biscuits ($12.95):  These treats are made in small batches and are oven baked.  I am going to share them with my brother’s dogs since they are more into bigger treats than my dogs.  My little dogs like little tiny soft treats best.

~Pawtastic Fleece Pet Toys ($10): Love this! It’s handmade and might be one of the first pet items I have ever received from etsy.  So cool!

~Piggy Twizzies ($5.26):  Ohh, the dogs will be fighting over this shortly I am sure! Even if I had two of them they would totally fight over just the one. It makes no sense, but they do.  Or they spend so much time protecting their half that they never get a chance to chew on it.

~fordirtydogs Unscented Dry Shampoo ($10):  Ohhh, I never even thought about dry shampoo for dogs.  I love it!  This stuff is awesome and I tried it on the dogs right away yesterday.  Fabulous.  I do wish it had a shaker top or something (it’s just an open jar of powder) so it wasn’t as messy, but I owe whoever thought of this a thank you!

All totaled I came up with a value of $54.19 for the August 2014 PetBox!  Baxter and I thought it was a fun box and I loved that we didn’t recognize any of the items in the box.  That always makes it more fun.

I don’t see the discount code?

Oops! If you click the link you’ll see a banner at the top of the page about an I heart radio deal.

The box we received looked nothing like this. The only item in common was the fleece toy.

What did you receive? I believe they are all different depending on your preferences

I got a fish skin, the fleece toy that was too small for my big dog, a squeaky toy sized for a small dog, and a bag of treats that is probably the only thing we will use in the box. I have 50 pound plus dog and got toys sized for a small dog. When I contacted them to see if there might have been a mistake in the size of the toys, the response was less than stellar. I was told that they try to cater to preferences and that bloggers and spokespets get different boxes. I based my decision upon reviews I saw and then to find out that they might not be what you see online doesn’t seem right. If you allow a size choice, you should make sure the items are size appropriate.

        1. Jennifer

Well that doesn’t make sense at all that you would get the wrong size toys! I wouldn’t have been happy about that either!

Mine was nothing like yours either. They must’ve sent you extras. Also, I got mine through groupon and wasn’t allowed to pack my own box (which wasn’t disclosed until after I had already bought the groupon). Not only this, they have sent the same items in 2 of the 3 boxes I’ve gotten so far. Bark box is a better choice.

    1. Jennifer

was the Groupon deal for this sized box?

      1. stacy

Sorry, it was actually a gilt city offer. And yes, it was for the deluxe box.

    2. Shawn

You at least got one. I never received one and when I asked about it they told me it was my fault I never picked anything. I never had any points to use to pick with and the surprise they are suppose to send if you don’t chose was definately a surprise. I got nothing.

  4. Jackie

I purchased the offer through Groupon. I was going to try it out for 1 month. When I went online to see what I got, I could choose 2 items. There was no way you could select more without paying extra. Needless to say, I requested a refund through Groupon.
