The Information Cards

The August 2014 Homegrown Collective theme was “The Beauty of Coconut Oil (Part Two)” and included the following projects:

~DIY Coconut Lip Chap: We have made chapstick before with Homegrown Collective so I am an old pro (lol).  It just involves melting an assortment of things together and then piping the mixture in your chapstick containers.  I went for the lemon citrus essential oil for my scent / flavor and love the way it turned out.  Very moisturizing and seems cooler because I made it myself.

~DIY Coconut Toothpaste: Now I haven’t worked on this project yet.  I try to do these projects before I do my reviews so I know what I am talking about, but this one has me a bit stumped.  It’s toothpaste and I guess it’s suppose to be stored in a mason jar?  I don’t know if I can get used to that. Won’t it be hard to get out?  I am going to try and find a smaller jar or container of some sort to keep this in.  Or even a travel sized squeeze container.  I think that would work better for me.

~DIY Coconut Deodorant: I was really excited to make this one, but I am not totally sure if I did it right.  The picture shows that you need to use the Pacific Sea Salt, while the instructions say you should use Maize Starch.  Had I read these instructions before I started pouring and mixing I would have e-mailed them, but of course I didn’t.  I ended up using both ingredients.  Oops.  I think we were probably just suppose to use the sea salt, but it seemed to turn out okay.  I haven’t worn it for any length of time, but it worked well when I had it on.  And it smells really good too!

I didn’t do a cost breakdown of the August 2014 Homegrown Collective box, but as usual, I had a great time working on the projects.  I would like it if the instructions were a little more clear though.  I probably should know that “T” stands for Tablespoon, but two projects had the measurements in “T” while one of them actually said “tablespoon” so I got confused thinking they were different.  Everything seemed to turn out well though, so it wasn’t a huge deal.

What do you think of Homegrown Collective?   Boxes are $48 /month and, of course, are even cheaper if you buy a 6-month ($39/month) or 12-month ($35.75/month) subscription!  If you are interested in subscribing, or just want to learn more, click here.  And don’t forget to use the code “RAMBLIN10″ to save $10 off your first box!!!
