Conscious Box, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a monthly box of healthy, GMO-free goods to try, love, and buy. Every month, your box features a variety of food, bath, beauty, and household products. You can opt for Classic, Vegan or Gluten-Free options and can select between the Plus box ($19.95) and the Taster box ($9.95).  I received the Plus box to review.

The Box

Conscious Box ships via USPS around the 15th of the month.  I received this in mid-August  – probably right before they shipped their August boxes out.

I subscribed to Conscious Box a while ago (well over a year ago), with a Groupon deal, but heard they have changed since then.  My first thought was that this box contained more snacks than the previous boxes I have received.

The Information Card

The July 2014 Conscious Box theme is “Dig Deep” and included the following products:

~Vintage Chips Pasta Chips (Alfredo): I am always surprised at how good these pasta chips are.  I have had them in a few boxes before and they are excellent.  I actually like these more than real Alfredo sauce.  (Note: The information card doesn’t list these and instead lists Beanfield Snacks: Bean & Rice Chips: Pico de Gallo).

~Hemp Hearts: I don’t love these alone, but mixed onto a salad they work well.  Plus they give you a little extra protein which is nice.

~Buddy Fruits Fruit Break: From what I can tell this is the adult’s version of those kids applesauces / fruit pouches.  I think the difference is that it’s larger than the kids ones?  Anyway, I am going to give this one to L.  He loves pouches and is always hungry.  I cannot get past the texture.

~Cliff Bar (Crunchy Peanut Butter): This is one of the better Cliff bar flavors I have tried.  They are very filing and are great to grab on the go.

~ChocoSlim: Meh. I am not overly excited by this.  There is only enough for one use so it’d be hard to tell if it works.

~Everly (Peach Mango): Not bad, but I don’t like it as much as I like Spark.  It’s certainly handy to throw in your bag and just add to a water bottle.  It’s got 0 calories and no sugar and I didn’t get any of the after taste that sometimes comes along with products like this.

~Environne Fruit & Vegetable Wash: Should I admit that I don’t use a fruit & vegetable wash?  I rinse them in the sink, but I don’t use a special wash.  Is this really bad?  Do you use a vegetable wash?

~Truvia: I would have loved a bigger sample of this so I could try to bake with it.  I’m not sure what we will end up using this for.  Maybe just sprinkled on some strawberries?

~Natralia Anti-Itch Cream & Heel Balm: I really liked both of these.  The anti-itch cream helped L out a ton yesterday after we went geocaching and got bit by mosquitos and I liked the heel balm. I will be on the look out for more of this cream for sure.

~Coupons: Conscious box also includes an assortment of coupons in each box.  This month also included a wine.com gift card.  It’s actually more of a voucher because you have to spend money to be able to use it.  I would have rather just had some additional samples!

I didn’t do a cost breakdown on the July 2014 Conscious Box, but there were 11 samples in the “Classic Plus” box which works out to about $1.80 per sample.  I would have loved to see some bigger samples in here and maybe even a full sized product like I remember them doing in the past.

I liked that heel balm too! It’s silky and was great for any heel skin cracks.

What’s your favorite Spark flavor? I tried green apple but have a variety pack.

      Fruit Punch!!!!

Those Beanfield’s Pico de Gallo chips have been making the rounds — think I’ve gotten them three times. So I’d probably be happy with the pasta chips, too. (Have had pasta chips in two boxes but different flavors, and not the one you got.)

I do use fruit and vegetable wash, but I shop for dirt cheap produce at a local international market and I feel like it’s not as clean as stuff I would get at Whole Foods — more waxes, more pesticides, etc. So I use the fruit and vegetable wash because it gets a little sudsy and gets off things that are not water soluble.

I put the hemp hearts in my oatmeal. I’ve gotten them in at least two food boxes. I think that’s what’s keeping me from subscribing to any more food boxes — you start to get the same things over and over again.

You do tend to get the same things over and over! That’s why I love it when I get a box of all different brands and products. I may not even end up liking half of them, but at least I know!

  3. of course i use a vegetable wash, what a ridiculous question 😉 add it to your next honest co box. they claim that they’ve done studies that it’s more efficacious than soap/water. i am especially picky about using it on grapes, etc (high pesticides)

LOL!!!! I am clearly the worst!

I actually use that fruit and vegetable wash that you got a sample of! I don’t think you necessarily really need it, but it gets the wax off supermarket apples. We started getting all our vegetables from a local organic farmer and now the grocery store produce kinda creeps me out… but I think it’s probably all in my head!

The pasta chip seems to be past the best by date

Conscious Box is a scam, if you value your brand you will keep it far away from ConsciousBox. They stole money from us and I have zero recourse but to warn others. Make sure to cancel after ordering because they sign you up as a subscription without informing you.
