Olfactif, who kindly sent me this box to review, is the first and only monthly perfume subscription box. Each month subscribers receive some of the finest and hardest-to-find perfume samples from niche artists around the world. Samples are contained in 2.25mL glass vials and each vial has enough for 15 – 20 wearings. In addition, you will receive an $18 credit to put toward a full bottle of a featured scent, every month.
Olfactif ships via USPS around the 1st of the month. If your first purchase is before the 15th of the month they will ship out your collection immediately. Otherwise your first box will ship around the 1st of the following month.
The box included instructions on how to smell the scents included. I like that it reminded you that sometimes the best scents develop over time. That is so true because they do change as you wear them.
The September 2014 Olfactif theme was “That Which We Call A Rose” and celebrates the versatility of the rose in three modern settings. Here are the scents that were included:
~Rose Cut – Ann Gerard Perfume: This scent is incredible. Notes include aldehydes, rum, pink pepper, rose, peony, patchouli, vanilla, oakmoss, and benzoin absolute. It’s not something I would pick out on my own and really I probably wouldn’t have even tested it out if I saw it in the store, but it’s fabulous. I couldn’t stop smelling my wrists!
~Lady Vengence – Juliette Has A Gun: I can’t place this scent, but it totally reminds me of something. Notes in this one include Bulgarian rose, vanilla, and patchouli.
~Mohur – Neela Vermeire Creations: Now this scent, which includes notes of cardamom, coriander, ambrette, carrot, black pepper, elemi oil, Turkish rose, jasmine, violet, orris, hawthorne, almond milk accord, leather, sandalwood, patchouli, oud, benzoin, vanilla, and tonka bean is like nothing I have ever smelled before. I was hoping I wouldn’t like it because it’s quite expensive (coming it at $250/bottle), but it’s amazing. I imagine this is a scent you wear and get a million compliments on it.
I was really impressed by the September Olfactif collection. I didn’t think I would enjoy the rose scents as much as I did, but I was wrong. It’s a great way to discover new scents that you can’t find everywhere.
