My October 2014 BOXYCHARM arrived today! It was actually the only subscription box I received and I was quite happy to see it.
If you aren’t familiar, BOXYCHARM is a beauty box subscription that surprises you each month with the best beauty products from popular and chic brands. It’s $21/month and includes full size and luxury size beauty samples from their team’s preferred well-known brands.
BOXYCHARM ships via USPS and took a full week to arrive to me. It was hanging out in Orlando for ages (they ship out of Florida) and then all of a sudden my tracking updated and it was out for delivery.
I had checked out the spoilers for this box prior to its arrival, but I was still excited to see it all out in person and find out which shades I received.
The October 2014 BOXYCHARM theme is “Bewitched” and included the following wicked treats:
~PalmettoDerma Collagen Booster & Restoration SERUM ($48): This is easily what I was most excited about this month. I am on a big skincare kick and have been slathering cream / serum on my face like you wouldn’t believe (I need to make up for all those years I should have been doing this). This instantly made my face feel softer so I’d say we are off to a good start.
~Coastal Scents Eclipse Palette ($14.95): When I first saw the spoiler picture of this, I thought it was an eye shadow palette. Turns out it’s a concealer palette. I bet I wasn’t the only one to think this though. There are a few tips on their website about which color to use to correct what problem, but I will have to do some experimenting too.
~Starlooks Ultra Gem Eye Pencil (Ultra Olive) ($14): Meh. I will be passing this on to a friend. One eyeliner pencil can last me like a year, so this is better off in the hands of someone who will use it.
~Be A Bombshell Eyeshadow (Rock Bottom) ($14): I don’t necessarily dislike this, but it doesn’t excite me either. I have tons of shadows so while the color is nice, this will end up getting passed on to a friend too.
~Cult/Commerce Nail Lacquers (Spell On and B’Witched) ($21): There has been some controversy about these polishes. The brushes on the polish are really hard and, according to the BOXYCHARM Facebook wall, you need to soak them in nail polish remover / acetone to soften them up. After you do that though (which seems a bit odd since I’ve never had to do this with any polish ever before), they are fine. I think if they would have sent out an e-mail about this before the polishes were sent out it wouldn’t have been such a big deal. Anyway, the colors are perfect for the theme and I am going to use one with some glitter before the weekend.
All totaled I came up with a value of $111.95 for the October 2014 BOXYCHARM box. I have mixed feelings about this box. I liked the serum which was over double the cost of the box so I totally did get my money’s worth, but I compared to some of their other boxes, this one was a bit of a letdown. Maybe because three of the brands are fair common subscription box brands so they aren’t a new discovery? Not sure!
