October 2014 Taste Trunk (Gourmet Trunk)

Taste Trunk, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a monthly subscription box offering 4 to 6 products, discount coupons, backgrounds on the companies and amazing recipe ideas from one of four themes, including Gourmet, Sweet, BBQ and Healthy Chef. Brands and items are hand selected and trunks are only $35/month.  Taste Trunk sent me two boxes to review and I selected the Gourmet and the Sweet boxes.  The following is my Gourmet Trunk review.

The Box

Taste Trunk ships via USPS with your first box arriving between 5 to 7 days after it is ordered.  Subsequent boxes will arrive by the 20th of the month.

Second First Look

I haven’t received a Taste Trunk since last fall and I was super pleased to see that their packaging is still as fabulous as ever.  Their outer boxes are actually even better than they were before as they look like actual trunks now!

The Information Card

Taste Trunk’s information cards include both product information and recipes / suggestions on how to use the products included.  The cards are wrapped in an old school newspaper advertisement type bag and are neatly tied.  The presentation is top notch and would make a fabulous gift.

My October 2014 Gourmet Trunk included the following items:

~Owl’s Brew Coco-Lada Cocktail Mixer ($9.99): This is a cocktail mixer that is completely ready to pour – you just need to add your favorite liquor.  The information card gives a few recipes, but I most want to try the “Bubbly Brew”. You take 1 part Coco-Lada, 1 part Prosecco, pour into a champagne glass and then garnish with pineapple.  Doesn’t that sound fabulous?

~Just Cook Ancho Chicken Spice Blend ($8.50): B saw the contents of this box before he left (he’s away with the National Guard this weekend) and asked which box had sent all of his favorite items.  LOL.  He loves this stuff (and lots of the other items in the box) and was thrilled to see it.  I am certain he will be using this to make something when he gets home.

~Urban Accents Blueberry Lemon Lavender Flapjack Mix ($9.99): It seems like lavender is the hot new flavor these days!  We never seem to have a good pancake mix on hand (I know, I know, you can make them from scratch too), so I will be saving this one.

~PastaBella Chocolate Fettuccine ($6.50): What?  Chocolate Fettuccine?  Yes please!  The recipe on the information card is for Chocolate Pasta with Chocolate Hazelnut Cream Sauce, White Chocolate Shavings and Fresh Berries.  Can you even imagine how flipping fantastic this would be for a special Valentine’s / Anniversary dinner at home?  Sweetest Day is actually coming up (I think this is just a Midwest thing) and we are so making this that night.

~Lillie’s Q Ivory Sauce ($8): You can do absolutely anything with this sauce. It works with anything from chicken to french fries.  I think this was the item B was most interested in so I need to see what he’s thinking for it.  I opened it up just to test it and it was tangy and very tasty.

All totaled I came up with a value of $42.98 for the October 2014 Gourmet Taste Trunk.  I absolutely loved this trunk and thought it was fantastic.  It had items we’ve tried and loved and some that are totally new to us.  I’ll be back with my Sweets Taste Trunk review in a few days and let me tell you, that was just as fantastic as this one!
