October 2014 Yogi Surprise

I was super excited when my October 2014 Yogi Surprise appeared on my porch earlier this afternoon. It was the first ever box from them and I love checking out boxes from a new subscription! I actually won an annual subscription through a referral contest Yogi Surprise had (don’t tell them, but I would have subscribed anyway ;)) and will be paying it forward down the road to you guys with a little Yogi Surprise giveaway.

Yogi Surprise is a monthly care package designed to complement your healthy lifestyle. Within each Yogi Surprise you’ll receive 6-8 full size products ranging from unique yoga accessories and natural beauty items to herbal tonics, organic snacks and super food essentials.  One subscriber per month will also win that month’s Yogi Surprise retreat!  This month’s retreat is in Playa Negra, Costa Rica and all you need to do to win is post a picture of your box and incorporate that month’s theme.  You can check out this month’s entries here.

The Box

Yogi Surprise ships via USPS Priority Mail.  My box took a detour through Pennsylvania,  so instead of taking two days to arrive, it took three.

I thought the presentation on this box was fantastic and the box itself was very well done.  You can tell they spent a long time working on this before they launched and it totally paid off.

The Information Card

As I mentioned, the October 2014 Yogi Surprise was their first ever box and they selected with a message of self-love.  The box included the following hand-selected items to give back to yourself:

~Buddha Nose Awaken Yoga Mat Spray ($10): Fact of the matter is, yoga mats get stinky.  They just do.  And this will fix that.  You can also use this as a hand sanitizer or a deodorizing spray!

~Teatulta Organic Tea Medley ($7.49): I think we all know by now that I don’t love tea, but I will pass this along to my cousin who does.  I kind of expected this box to include tea, so it doesn’t bother me at all.

~PeoplesTowels Organic Cotton Towel ($6): I use way too much paper towel (no seriously I am a horrible offender), so I am very intrigued by this.  I would love to know if any of you use something like this in place of paper towels and how you like it?  Is it hard to get used to?  How do you store them?  Tell me everything.

~VedaBar PittaBar ($4): I actually am quite “hangry” right now and probably should have eaten this before I started the review.  Instead I am going to throw it in my bag for when I am running around and don’t have any other easy options.

~Big Dipper Wax Works Beeswax Aromatherapy Tin ($5): This smells great and I can see how it’s a calming scent.

~Emmy’s Organics Dark Cacao Macaroons ($2.95): I like this flavor much better than the Chai Spice ones I received from Love With Food a while back. They contain only organic ingredients and can fix that sweet tooth craving.

~Rooted Beauty Facial Wipes ($5.99): Love these!  I have gotten them in boxes in the past and they are fabulous.  They are great for travel, late nights or, of course, after yoga class.

All totaled I came up with a value of $41.43 for the October 2014 Yogi Surprise.  It’s just shy of the $44.95 monthly price tag, but I know that founding members (those who signed up before the launch) got 20% off their boxes for life which makes it a nice deal.  Plus, you can’t get many of these items locally (at least you can’t around here), so you if bought them all on your own you would have to factor in shipping!

What do you think of Yogi Surprise?  If you are interested in signing up or just want to learn more, click here.  I am not aware of any current discounts or coupon codes, but if I hear of any I will update this.  ETA: Use code “LOVEYOURSELF” to save 20% off (thanks Anna).

I got excited to see your review on this! But ultimately, I don’t regret not subscribing now. At that price point, it’s a bit disappointing. I might try to find the yoga mat spray stuff though because it sounds interesting. I’ve had a rubber mat for a few months (prAna’s indigena) and it still smells like rubber.. probably always will though!

Will keep an eye on your Yogi Surprise reviews in the future though in case they either change the price or make them awesome.

I received mine yesterday and liked everything in the box. There’s not one thing I wanted to swap, which is unusual these days. I am bummed that the vacation giveaway requires posting a picture and voting. It may actually be a deal breaker for me. I liked the remote idea that I might win a yoga retreat just by subscribing. The little flicker of hope that provided was worth the higher price tag.

A random thing would be more exciting for sure!

As a Yogi myself, I was really excited to see this box, but ultimately, it’s a little low on the value end. I hope that they trend toward including some cool yoga accessories like a strap or a DVD and less food in the future. Ironically, you’re not really supposed to eat right after a yoga class anyway, as your body needs time to balance itself!

I too received this box & it was a nice box of goodies but I too was disappointed in the value. I was also hoping for more yoga centered products. As a yogi myself I would have liked to see less food also & more gear, herbal products, maybe some mala beads, a cd or DVD. I did enjoy the box & being that they are new I will stick with them because I totally love the concept & am really looking forward to future boxes. Btw I do use dish towels instead of paper towels & store them with the rest of my towels.

    1. Jennifer

Do you use special ones? I use dish towels too, but to clean up messes, it’s just not the same.

  5. Jessica

I just recieved my box as well. I agree with the above comments that the value is low. I’m hopeful it will improve as I love the idea! I like all if the items aside from the wash cloth (not sure how practicle that will be) but really don’t need more food items. I love the idea of a DVD, CD, or MP3 music download!

I’d like to see a headband, socks, maybe some facial wipes, a book, etc!

  6. Becka

I am a full-time yoga teacher and practitioner for over 15 years. I thought “Oh, this is the box for me!” However, I am disappointed in the value. And besides the mat spray, it wasn’t all that yoga-centered. For the price tag, I don’t think it’s worth it for me to keep this subscription.

    1. Jennifer

I would like to see more yoga stuff next month as well!

  7. Amanda

I was so disappointed by this box. It wasn’t the promised retreat in a box and it was barely yoga related. Also the voting process for the winnable retreat feels smarmy–free advertising for them with what I can only imagine is false praise by people desperate to recoup a little value. Just grateful I didn’t recommend this box to anyone.

    1. Jennifer

I would like the retreat to be a random golden ticket kind of thing!

  8. PA Anna

Jennifer -There is a code listed on the website. LOVEYOURSELF which gives 20% off. I did not try it and am going to wait a few months to see how things work out for them. It’s a nice box, but not quite what I pictured.

    1. Jennifer

      You rock. Thank you!

  9. Kim

I was very excited about this box. However, it was disappointing. Even though I had a 20% code, it was not worth the reduced price. I would be so upset if I had paid full price. Personally, I think that this box is worth $20. I will keep it one more month to see if it gets better.

    1. Jennifer

That’s probably a good idea. It’s hard to really judge from just one box.

  10. Wendy

I was also disappointed in the value of the box. There seemed to be such a big buildup about it and it just didn’t deliver. I am not waiting till it gets better, if it gets better, and I am canceling now.

  11. Kim

I received boxes for two months and was dissatisfied with the items verses the high price point of the box. Cancelled as it was not worth it.
