Bitebox by The Pantry Gourmets, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a monthly membership providing top American Artisan products, hand picked from passionate producers across the USA. Each month you can expect to receive 4-6 full-sized products along with Professional Chef derived delicious recipes that showcase the flavors of those items.
My Gourmet Pantry Bitebox shipped via FedEx. I actually received a Bitebox last week, but one of the items had leaked (and got totally repacked by FedEx) so I contacted them and they quickly replaced the box for me. They were quite apologetic, but heck, it happens sometimes so no big deal.
Everything was wrapped in bubble wrap and was securely packed in a Bitebox reusable bag with everything placed into the box. Luckily there was no issue with leaking this time and all the items arrived in perfect condition.
My box didn’t include an overall information card, but it had recipe cards featuring items in the box which you can store in your recipe box (it comes in the first box as you can see here). If you happen to misplace these, you can also find them online. Here is what the September 2014 Bitebox included:
~The Gracious Gourmet Hatch Chile Pesto ($10): The recipes for this item are Chicken Tortilla Soup and a Chile Pesto Omelet. Both items sound equally amazing, but I want to try the soup first. I love tortilla soup (nothing too spicy though) and this one, which can be prepared in just 20 minutes, looks perfect.
~The Jam Stand You’re My Boy BLUEberry ($10): We have had this on many occasions and find a new use for it every time. I think having it on pancakes has been my favorite so far (which isn’t that inventive, but is very very good), but this BlueBerry Sour Cream Coffee Cake recipe may sway me.
~Callie’s Buttermilk Biscuit Mix ($6.45): I am just going to make biscuits with this. Plain old biscuits. The recipe card gives instructions for sausage cream gravy, but I think the kids will appreciate warm biscuits with a little butter much more.
~teapigs English Breakfast Tea ($9.99): I’ll pass this on to my cousin to enjoy. I just can’t get into tea, but luckily lots of people I know love it so it never goes to waste.
~Blackberry Patch Pure Maple Syrup ($9.95): I couldn’t resist trying this right away and it’s just as good as you’d imagine. It’s handmade in small batches in Georgia and is so so tasty. There are a few different recipes for this (Fennel and Maple Sausage & Brown Butter Maple Pumpkin Muffins), but I think this + pancakes is where it’s at.
~McClures Bloody Mary Mixer ($12): McClure’s products are made in Detroit, so I am way biased about how amazing they are. They really do have good stuff though. B loves their pickles and their chips are great too. I think we’ll use this not for bloody mary’s, but for Chicken Cacciatore using the enclosed recipe card.
All totaled I came up with a value of $58.39 for the September 2014 Bitebox. I not only love the item selections for this box, but I love even more that they include recipes to go with everything. Sometimes you get a product in a box and just wonder what on earth you are supposed to do with it. Not with this box though!
