B’s November 2014 Mantry arrived today! If you aren’t familiar with them, Mantry (aka the Modern Man’s Pantry) is a food of the month club that lets you discover the finest american artisan foods – and gives you ideas of what to do with them. It’s $75/month and has been around since the Fall of 2012.
Mantry typically ships via UPS Sure Post, but this month UPS delivered our box. I had a package coming UPS yesterday anyway so they delivered this one as well. I wish FedEx did that with their Smart Post stuff. Never happens though.
We still have all of our Mantry crates from ALL the months we have subscribed and I am still trying to figure out exactly what to do with them all. They are “too good” to recycle, but what exactly to do with them I don’t know for sure.
The November 2014 Mantry theme is “Leftovers” and included the following “artisanal accouterments” to help with that turkey hangover:
~Chef’s Cut Turkey Jerky ($7): I am personally not a big beef jerky fan, but this isn’t about me. B loves it. He loves it. And I love when we we new stuff he’s never tried before in a subscription box. This looks fabulous and he’ll love it.
~Oaktown Spice Shop Chili Spice (~$5): I love when B makes chili and I am very much looking forward to him making chili with this. They also suggest using a scoop or two of mashed potatoes on top and then baking it for a shepherds pie, but I just want to have straight chili!
~Hudson Henry Baking Co. Good News Cashew and Coconut Granola ($7.99): For whatever reason, we seem to get a ton of granola in subscription boxes. We like it, but B does end up taking some to so work to share. Mantry suggests using this + leftover cranberry sauce + yogurt for a little morning after Thanksgiving treat!
~Broadbent’s Maplewood Smoked Bacon (~$8): I know we have gotten bacon from this brand before, but I don’t know if it was the exact same flavor. They suggest adding this to leftover brussel sprouts, but I know B is just going to make this on it’s own!
~Green Mountain Mustard Sriracha Mustard ($6.99): I don’t enjoy mustard, but perhaps if it is mixed with sriracha it will mask the mustard taste? LOL!
~Brooklyn Brine Spicy Maple Bourbon Pickles ($8.99): These look super familiar, but I can’t recall where we got them at before. I don’t now if it was Mantry or somewhere else? Pickles are another one of the items I don’t like, so these are all B!
All totaled I came up with a value of $43.97 for the November 2014 Mantry. We liked the product selections and I am LOVING their new information cards with the ideas on how to use the products, but the value of this box was far below the cost which I didn’t like. It’s normally maybe $10-$15 lower, but this was over $30 lower! I am going to give them another month or two and see what happens and if the values are the same it might be time to say goodbye. B usually LOVES Mantry, but the value this month was disappointing to say the least.
