January 2015 Doodle Crate

My January 2015 Doodle Crate arrived late last week and ended up working on it yesterday afternoon during the snowstorm.  I’m a *little* older than the suggested age range for this, but I think the projects are great and are right about my speed.

If you aren’t familiar with Doodle Crate, they are one of the new lines in the Kiwi Crate family. Designed for girls ages 9-16, Doodle Crate includes all the materials and inspiration for DIY projects such as patterned pouches, friendship bracelets, or colorful candles. Crates encourage girls to tackle new challenges and gain creative confidence!

First Look

I didn’t look up this month’s theme before the box arrived so opening it was a total surprise.  It looked like a really fun one though.

The Information Card

The January 2015 Doodle Crate theme was “Stamp Carving & Printmaking”.  I flipped through the instructions and thought “oh, this is going to be easy”!  Ha.  It was not!

The Materials

The box included cards, envelopes, stamping rubber, ink pads, stamp templates and a carving tool.  Pretty much everything you needed to make your own stamped cards.

Carved Stamp

I so should have watched the Rubber Stamp video on You Tube before I attempted this project!  It was way more difficult than I suspected it would be.  I was trying to scrape down with the tool, but you need to scrape up to make it work.  Once I got that down it went more smoothly.  Not great, but better.  B tried one and took to the technique much more quickly than I did.  I had fun learning this, but it’s fair to say that I will not be making this a new hobby.  I do love the hour or so I spend working on these crates and find the time very relaxing.

What do you think about Doodle Crate?  If you are interested in subscribing you can sign up here and use the coupon code “GOODSHOPGIFT” to save $10 off your first box!  The coupon code applies to Doodle Crate, Koala Crate, Kiwi Crate and / Tinker Crate, so there is something for almost every age!
