International Blessings, who kindly sent me this Box of Blessings to review, states that their mission is to empower 3rd world artisans by selling and promoting their handmade products, which then helps to create sustainable livelihoods and eliminate poverty around the world. Each Box of Blessings will have 3-4 pieces of jewelry or other handcrafted products made by impoverished people around the world.
There will also be information about the items (where they came from, who made them, how they are changing lives, etc) and information about the poverty fighting cause that will receive the 10% donation that month. The March cause is “Project Have Hope” which you can read more about here.
Box of Blessings ships via USPS during the first week of the month and is only available to those in the US.
I loved it already! I knew what kind of necklace that was and I am a big fan so I had high hopes for this box.
Box of Blessings includes information cards about each item in the box along with a card about the partner this month. Here is what was included in the January 2015 Box of Blessings:
~Project Have Hope Paper Bead Earrings ($7) and Bracelet ($5) (Uganda): These items are hand-crafted by Ugandan artists out of recycled paper. I would LOVE to see what goes into making one of these. I am absolutely fascinated. I imagine to it to be a very detailed process, but they don’t cost a fortune (which I would expect them to), so I really don’t know. Oh I also should mention that the bracelet is stretchy, so it will fit anyone. I have a similar bracelet in purple and i love it!
~Magazine Bead Necklace (Kenya): Ohh, the information card actually explains the process for making the magazine bead necklace! They cut a long triangle out of a piece of paper, roll it tightly and then glued before it is set out to dry. The card doesn’t say how long it needs to dry for, but these beads are so small I just can’t imagine having the patience to do this. Totally love!
I couldn’t do a cost breakdown on this box because I couldn’t find the necklace online. I LOVE the paper bead jewelry so this was a win for me for sure!

I make paper bead bracelets and necklaces and sell them at a local store as well as friends, friends of friends etc. The prices they show are great for the work involved. It’s tedious but very relaxing and rewarding when you see the final product!
