ipsy August 2015 Subscription Review - "Prep School"
ipsy August 2015 Subscription – “Prep School”

ipsy is $10/month and sends its members a beautiful Glam Bag with 4-6 deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products. Their bags always have an incredible value (well over the $10 cost) and I am always amazed at how they do it. I don’t always love everything in the bags, but I always always think it was worth my $10.

The Bag

ipsy ships around the 10th of the month via DHL Global Mail. I generally expect to receive my package a week after they ship. DHL Global Mail is pretty slow.

First Looka

ipsy doesn’t include a product information card. Rather, they send a generic card with that month’s theme information. All of the detailed product information can be found in your account online.  Items (when they fit) are packaged in that month’s Glam Bag.  It’s a reusable makeup pouch and they have been making super cute ones lately.

The Information Card

The August 2015 ipsy theme was Prep School and contained the following items:

~Doll 10 Beauty HydraGel Blush in Flirt (3.15g / 0.11oz) ($12.40): I love this. It’s not quite a powder, but not quite a cream either.  I applied it with my fingers and was amazing at how easily it blended in.  It looked very natural.

~Skone Cosmetics Luxe Doubler Eye/Lip Pencil in Wine (4.7g) ($12): Don’t quote me on this, but I *think* this is a full-size.  It’s an eyeliner that doubles as a lip pen. I feel like I would need to choose one or the other for it though.

~‘Pencil Me In’ Cosmetics Natural Eyeliner Pencil in Boysenberry (.04oz / 1.8g) ($6.99): I know I have it noted somewhere in my profile that I don’t wear eyeliner, but I swear I get it more often than not.  My eyeliner wearing friends are happy about it though.  I tested this out and it went on smoothly and I like that it has a built in sharpener.

~Paula’s Choice Skincare Resist Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum (7mL / 0.24fl oz) ($9.60): This serum works to firm skin, smooth wrinkles and soften fine lines.  A little of this goes a long way.  I thought it was more like an oil than a serum, but it’s possible I just used too much.  One thing I know I didn’t like about this was the dispenser.  It kept twisting shut when I was trying to use the pump.

~Albertini Divine Skin Hydrator (1oz / 30mL) ($1.78): This is an inshore moisturizer.  You apply it to damp skin, lightly rinse and then pat dry.  Honestly, it sounds like a lot of work.  I can’t see myself doing this on a daily basis in the shower.

~The Bag: This month’s bag is awesome. I love the houndstooth and the pink zipper is awesome.

The Bag

All totaled I came up with a value of $42.77 for the August 2015 ipsy bag. While it wasn’t my favorite bag to date, I did think it was worth the cost and I had fun trying these new products.
