Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box program. Each month subscribers will receive a box of deluxe samples, along with an exclusive PLAY! BOOK — packed with helpful advice — and a PLAY! PASS to redeem in store for a free one-on-one learning session with a beauty expert. The six product samples in your PLAY! by SEPHORA box are from the same prestige brands Sephora carries in store and online, and they are sized to use multiple times.
Play! by Sephora ships via USPS. All Play! by Sephora, boxes should arrive between the third and fourth week of each month.
This month’s Play! by Sephora was a bit of a surprise because my box wasn’t posted to my account before it arrived.
There were a few box variations this month, but my October 2016 Play! by Sephora included the following items:
~Smashbox Always on Matte Liquid Lipstick (Drivers’s Seat) (No Size Listed) (~$6): Driver’s Seat is a warm pink color. It’s almost mauve in my opinion. It’s too deep for me, but I will pass it on to my SIL. It stayed put nicely, though.
~erborian Bamboo Creme Frappe (0.17oz) ($4.30): This moisturizer has a “whipped, frosty gel-cream texture.” It felt cool and refreshing when I put it on and absorbed into my skin very quickly.
~Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil (50mL) ($14.20): This is a “deeply regenerating, creamy formula that restructures, strengthens, and protects all hair types, including damaged.” I have been getting (and using) a ton of hair masks lately, so I am going to need to put this one on hold for a while.
~The Estee Edit by Estee Lauder (0.1fl.oz) ($7.41): This doesn’t get the greatest reviews on Sephora, but I loved it. People complained it was too thick, but I didn’t feel that way at all. It reminded me a bit of Mac Lipglass (I loved that stuff) and gave made my lips so shiny and glossy. I wouldn’t pay full price for it, but I loved sampling it.
~Farmacy Skin Dew Mist (20mL) ($9.07): This is a hydrating essence mist & setting spray. It tones the skin, restores radiance, and freshens makeup. I’m happy I tested it without makeup on because the spray was so strong. I certainly wouldn’t describe it as a mist. It was refreshing, though, and I like the almost herbal scent.
~Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris (~$1): The more I sniff this, the more I like it. It has notes of Strawberry, Raspberry, Bergamot, Calone, Pear, Orange Flower, Jasmin Sambac, White Peony, Datura, Patchouli, White Musk, Ambrox, Cedarwood and Crystal Moss. I picked up a lot of the fruit notes with little hints of the deeper Bergamot and Patchouli.
All totaled I came up with a value of $41.98 for the October 2016 Play! by Sephora box. I enjoyed the variety of my box this month and will use everything in it!

I got an email telling me these were the things I was getting, but I actually received almost an entirely different box – the only thing that matched was the smashbox lip product! Disappointed as I really like all the Farmacy products I’ve tried.
I haven’t received shipping notifications in a couple of months, so I’m always surprised when this shows up. Odd about the variations in boxes. I would have preferred this one over the one I received (had some face lotion and mascara I could do without).
