Tinker Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post out of California and generally takes about a week to arrive.

Our April 2017 Tinker Crate theme was “Biomechanical Hand” and included instructions and materials to build our own right at home.

Box Note
I feel like I should mention that not all new subscribers will receive the most current Tinker Crate box.  I am not sure if this was the newest one or one that had been sent in a previous month, but it was new to us.

Instructions

The box includes full, detailed instructions, but if you ever get stuck in one of their steps, they have all the projects / tutorials on their YouTube channel as well.

Building / Materials

The box included all the necessary items for this project with the exception of scissors.  We also ended up using a lighter to burn the ends of our string to make it easier to thread.

L (my 9-year-old) did about 75% of this project on his own and then passed it along to my husband to finish up.  I don’t think it was because it was overly difficult – it was just repetitive.

Final Product

It worked!  I didn’t get a chance to take a video, but it worked exactly as promised.  The” controls” were easy to do and for some reason, pointing things out with a biomechanical hand is much funnier than just using your hand.

Tinker Zine

Each box also includes the Tinker Zine, which includes additional science activities and experiments relating to the theme.
