I don’t know how, but I pretty much forgot that B’s July 2014 Mantry was coming this week!

If you aren’t familiar with them, Mantry (aka the Modern Man’s Pantry) is a food of the month club that lets you discover the finest american artisan foods – and gives you ideas of what to do with them.  At $75/month it’s a spendy box for sure, but B totally totally loves it.

Mantry ships via UPS Mail Innovations.  It starts out as UPS and is typically delivered by the post office.  However, if you have a package coming that day from UPS or they will be in your neighborhood anyways, they will typically deliver it.

We still haven’t done anything with all of our Mantry crates (we have a bunch), but B’s still working on ideas.  Sometimes he stacks them up in different ways to get an idea of what his Mantry bar would look like.

The Information Card

The July 2014 Mantry theme is “Street Foods” and included the following items that will help you serve up your favorite truck-bound fare in the comfort of your kitchen:

~Three Jerks Jerky Chipotle Adobo Jerky ($14.99): Are you kidding me?  This is perhaps the most expensive beef jerky I have ever seen!  And I am sure that B will eat it up in two seconds!

~We Rub You Korean BBQ Marinade ($8): Pretty sure the name alone makes me love this!  Mantry shows it with BBQ Beef Tacos which look incredible.  I think that is exactly what we will do with it.

~Olo Foods Olo’s Chipotle ($6.99): We have received this in a previous box and I am not sure what ever became of it.  It’s possible that it’s around here somewhere still?  I need to figure out what we can do with this that we will both like.

~Grey Ghost Bakery Cinnamon Pecan Cookies ($9): I have had these in the past in a few flavors (not in a Mantry though) and have enjoyed them.  I like their idea of turning these into ice-cream sandwiches with vanilla ice-cream!

~Steven Smith Teamaker Big Hibiscus ($11.99): Oddly enough, Mantry is making this tea sound good – even to me.  They suggest adding a bit of booze to it and making it into a sangria like drink.  Umm, okay.  Let’s do that!

~Maya Kaimal Butter Masala ($6): What are the odds that I would get two Indian simmer sauces in a week?  Not very good I bet!  Mantry has an amazing looking recipe (Butter Chicken Naawish) pictured with this and I am going to get B to make that! It sounds like it’s perfect!

All totaled I came up with a value of $56.97 for the July 2014 Mantry – “Street Food”.  I liked that this box had more “new” items than previous boxes, but I do wish the value was higher.  Another bag of that jerky or the “The Truck Food Cookbook” they are having a giveaway for would have worked just fine!

Did you get Mantry this month?  What’d you think?  If you are interested in subscribing or just want to learn more, click here.  For the next four days (though the 28th of July I believe) Mantry is on Gilt City and is offering one month for $40 (reg. 75).  Shipping is additional, but if you have been wanting to try them, I highly recommend snatching up this deal before it’s gone!

I would recommend w/ the chipotle paste to mix it with mayo and use it as a burger condiment. It’s delicious. Also mixed with sour cream as a dip is awesome. Sometimes I also make refried beans w/ tacos and I mix some in there for some extra flavor. Also works in marinades really well.

And even though you don’t like tea a ton, I bet that would taste amazing as a concentrate mixed with lemonade.

Sorry..I love cooking..I could go on forever.

One of my friends mentioned something about Mantry a while ago, but I’m still kinda doubtful about subscription packages turning out less than their value, like yours here. Anyway, I just checked out Mantry and I might be changing my mind again… I mean look at that glorious wooden box!
I hope to read another review on Mantry next month!
