I decided on the spur of the moment to try out a new Quarterly Box and I ended up opting for the Fathom Box which arrived today.
Quarterly is a new way to connect with the people you follow and find interesting. Quarterly Co. offers subscription boxes (which are shipped on a quarterly basis) from well known curators which are filled with things they love. Fathom is “the travel website reinvented” and was started by Pavia Rosati and Jeralyn Gerba to celebrate all the reasons travelers hop a plane, hitch a ride, and explore the world beyond their backyards. Their box was billed as being loaded with cool and clever products for smart and passionate travelers.
Quarterly ships via FedEx Smart Post which tends to be fairly slow. However, they ship out of Wisconsin and I am in Michigan so it took just a few days.
Two spoilers were released for this box so I had a bit of an idea about what to expect. I hadn’t gotten a glimpse of full spoilers though so it was fun to unbox.
All Quarterly boxes include a letter from the curator(s) detailing a little about the overall theme of the box, the items inside, why they selected them and why they love them. The March 2015 Fathom box (#TRV01) aims to make you a better traveler, a smarter packer and a the most unruffled person at the airport with the following items:
~BAGGU Small 3D Zip Bag in Mint Stripe ($8): I totalled laughed when I saw this because I just received the exact same one – same pattern and all in my March Kloverbox! I loved it then and I love it now. Little bags are awesome when traveling to help you stay organized.
~URSA Major Travel Products ($25.60): B was looking through this box and eyed these items right away. He uses them now and loves them. I suspect he will be snagging these from me for his travel kit.
~Dubs Acoustic Filters ($25): These help to filter out noise pollution. You can use them on airplanes, concerts, sporting events, etc. These were one of the spoilers and are kind of what made me want to snag this box. I will get a ton of use out of these.
~Flight 001 4-in-1 Travel Adapter ($25): I thought the different colors on here were just to make it look pretty, but nope, they are based on location do you never get them confused. I should have taken this out of the package for my picture because you can’t see the green adapter, but I swear it’s in there.
~This is Ground’s Cord Taco ($7): I would certainly be much more organized if I used these! Actually I will at the beginning of my trips. I am always SO organized when I leave for a trip. And then when it’s time to come home my suitcase is a straight-up mess.
~Playing Cards from SOLA ($10): I wouldn’t personally pay $10 for a deck of cards, but they really cute. And you never know when you will get suck in some crazy airport somewhere and need to pass some time. Also included as a little card with “Fathom’s Games for the Road”. Nothing big. Just a few ideas.
~Artifact Uprising Instagram Photo Book ($17.99): This box also included a coupon to make your own book out of Instagram images! I have wanted to make one of these for ages so this is probably my favorite item in the box. I am so excited to make this.
~Fathom Postcards: The final item in the box was a custom set of Fathom postcards. Use them to send some snail mail to a friend or drop a note to Fathom. They included their address so I think I am going to send them one just for fun.
All totaled I came up with a value of $118.59 for the March 2015 Fathom Quarterly Box. I wouldn’t call it an amazing value since the box was $100 plus shipping, but it was well curated and I thought all of the items were very useful and perfectly fit the theme.
