M is for Monster is a subscription box which delivers weekly educational activities (for toddler or Pre-K) right to your door every month! Everything you need for one months worth of activities will be shipped right to your front door.
M is for Monster ships via USPS. Boxes are mailed out on the 22nd of each month. If you place your order between the 1st and the last day of the month, you will receive the next months box. For example, if you order your box on August 19th, you will receive your September box within the week. If you place your order on or after the 1st, your box will be mailed out on the 22nd of the next month.
I love how M is for Monster packages everything. Activities are divided up by week and are placed into different colored labeled envelopes so you can easily grab them when you are ready to start. Of course, not all of the items will always fit in the envelopes (or an item may be used for more than one week), so you may have a few items that will arrive loose in the box.
The box includes an information card which gives you the breakdown of the projects for each week. The June 2015 (Preschool) box included the following:
Week 1: Ice Cream
~Ice Cream Soup: I could be wrong, but I think that all monthly M is for Monster boxes include a book relating one of that month’s themes. L read this to us and we all thought it was a cute story.
~Ice Cream Sprinkles: I did not understand this project at first. I was thinking, but the sprinkles don’t match the cones? Well that’s the point! You have to combine the different colored sprinkles in order to get the cone colors!
~Ice Cream Letter Match: In this project you put the capital letters on the scoops and the under case letters on the cone part. And then you work on matching them.
Week #2: Lemonade
~Smelly L: You are supposed to spread the glue on the L and then sprinkle the lemonade on it and “smell” it. However, my kids think Kool-Aid is the world’s great invention and since I rarely buy it (likely why they think it’s so amazing) I decided to just let them drink it. It counts as a project though because we did smell it!
~Ice Cube Counting: In this case the “ice-cubes” are the cotton balls. You pick a card and then place the cubes in the cup to count to the number on the card. WB understands counting and is fairly good at it, but he for sure skips numbers here and there so practice is good.
~Lemonade Stand Pretend Play: These are used to make pretend lemonade. And then to help give your little one some practice pouring their own drinks with the pitcher. WB loves when I give him a little cup and pitcher (it’s like this one but plain) to pour his own drink with.
Week 3 – Popcorn:
~Count the Popcorn: We loved this one! Scratch and Sniff popcorn stickers? I love it! The point is to use the stickers to help with counting and number recognition, but we really just liked the scratch and sniff part.
~Popcorn Letter Pop: You cut the popcorn letters out, let your little one crinkle them up and then “toss” them in the popcorn container. Your little one can pull out the crinkled popcorn like letter and identify it.
Week 4 – Shapes:
~Sponge Paint Shapes: I am saving this project for a day when WB NEEDS it. LOL. He’s obsessed with painting and will love this. We’ll try to talk about the shapes during the painting, but I can’t imagine he will be too into listening.
~Shape Game: I think shape game is a little too advanced for WB right now, but we’ll keep at it. The idea is to flip all the cards over grab one, read it to see what shape you are looking for and then flip the cards back over to try to match it up.
~Chalk Shapes: Chalk shapes is exactly what it sounds like. Drawing shapes with chalk. Both of my boys love drawing with sidewalk chalk so we will make good use of this!
I didn’t do a cost breakdown on this box, but it works out to less than $10 per week. I was impressed with the creativity and materials included with this and feel like it’s a great supplement to preschool or a fabulous box for summertime!
