RawSpiceBar, who kindly sent me this package to review, sends 3-4 hand-picked, small batch, freshly ground spice blends with each monthly box. Each of the blends weigh about 0.5 ounces, which allows you to create a single dish feeding approximately 12-14 people. You will also receive kitchen-tested, detailed recipes and ideas for each spice blend you receive as well as fun gifts and stories about the history and origins of each blend every month.
RawSpiceBar ships at the beginning of the month via USPS. Shipments to the US are expected to take between 5 and 7 days, while shipments to Canada may take up to 3 weeks to arrive.
As usual, RawSpiceBar had everything packaged in a gorgeous patterned envelope.
2015 RawSpiceBar destination was “The Andes, Peru” and included the following items:
~Pink Peppercorn Blend: Pink Peppercorn Blend is a blend of, you guessed it, pink himalayan sea salt and pink peppercorn. The recipe included for this one is for “voladores”, which (according to Google) are a fancy delicate, flat cookie. They look quite delicious and the little boys and I will be giving these a try soon!
~Aji Amarillo Spices: This is a blend of aji amarillo (a chile), coriander, basil, mustard seed cumin and black pepper. The go-along recipe is for the most amazing sounding sweet potato wedges. Seriously I need these in my life. We will be making these as soon as we get home!
~Peruvian Spice Rub: The final spice that was included was a Peruvian Spice Rub. It included a blend of Smoked Paprika, Ancho Chiles, Cumin, Ground Black Pepper and Mexican Oregano. It sounds to me like it’s got a kick to it, but I’m ready to try it in this included Peruvian Spiced Roasted Chicken recipe. The little boys and I will work on the cookies and B will do the chicken and the potatoes. I know that B has been missing cooking so this will be a fun way to jump back in next week!
