Artisan Box August 2015 Subscription Box Review
Artisan Box August 2015 Subscription Box

Artisan Box by Luxurion World is a monthly subscription box full of authentic and high quality goods directly from India. Each box will contain handcrafted 3-5 lifestyle products from local craftsman and artisans.

The Box

Artisan Box ships the first week of the month directly from India. I believe my box took about a week to arrive, but that could vary depending on how long it gets help up in customs.

First Look

I was quite impressed with the packaging of this box.  The box was gorgeous and the presentation was fantastic.

The Information Card

The August 2015 Artisan Box from Luxurion World contained the following items:

~Suf Embroidered Woollen Stole ($25): I actually thought that this was a towel so I was thankful that the information card told me what it really was.  This is embroidered by hand on a triangle called a “suf”.  What I thought was most fascinating about this was that artisans do not use a pattern.  They imagine their design and then they count it out in reverse. That seems extremely difficult and makes me appreciate the craftsmanship of this even more.

~Handcrafted Lacquered Wood Honey Dipper ($10): This honey dipper is carved by hand and then painted with vegetable dyes by hand in a kaleidoscopic pattern. I am not sure if you can get an idea of the size of this by the picture, but it’s large!  You’d never have to worry about getting your hands covered in honey from the bottom of the jar if you had this.

~Ancient Rogan Art ($30): Hopefully I can explain how this is made without being too confusing because it’s really cool.  Artisans heat up castor oil over fire for more than 12 hours, cast it into cold water an then a thick residue called “Rogan” is formed.  Rogan is mixed with natural colors and then artisans use a six-inch wooden stick or pen to draw out a fine threads which is then painted on the cloth.  Artisans design symmetric patterns so that they only need to work on one side of the cloth.  The other side is created by folding the cloth in half to get the impression on it.  I wish the information card gave a time frame of how long this takes from beginning to end because it sounds like a very time consuming process.

~Multipurpose Bag from Recycled Plastic ($8): I think out of everything in this box, this item is my favorite.  It is certainly the one I will use the most.  It’s made out of recycled plastic which is collected, cleaned up and then sorted based on color and quality.  It’s woven together using the ancient Pit Loom technology and helps to generate income for home-based workers, those who are disabled and senior citizens.

~Rudraksha ($10): Rudraksha is a seed produced by the Elaeocarpus tree and is used to make organic jewelry.  According to the information card this “has the ability to wipe our tears and provide happiness”. You can wrap it around your neck or wrist to bring you calm and serenity.

~Herbal Facial Soap – Kesar Goti ($1): Kesar Goti soap contains organic Kesar (which is saffron), coconut oil, almond oil and soap base.  According to the information card it helps to reduce hard spots and acne. I am going to give this one a try ASAP.  If it works I’d have to figure out a way to get this imported by the case!

All totaled I came up with a value of $74 for the Artisan Box by Luxurion World.  Because of the nature of the items I used prices provided on the information card. I thought this was a beat box.  You could tell everything was hand crafted and it seemed like it was all items you would find at a local market in India.
