The Box

M is for Monster ships via USPS. Boxes are mailed out on the 22nd of each month. If you place your order between the 1st and the last day of the month, you will receive the next months box. For example, if you order your box today (August 20th) you will receive your September box within the week. If you place your order on or after the 1st, your box will be mailed out on the 22nd of the next month.

First Look

Everything from M is for Monster arrives neatly packaged in individual weekly envelopes. You can easily grab one to work on while leaving the remaining ones neatly stored away.

The Information Card

The August 2015 M is for Monster box contained the following activities:

Week #1 – Doctors

Week #1: Doctors

~Patient Care: Patient Care focuses on pretend play and includes all of the items you need to care for your little patient.  Bandaids cure most everything around here so that’s what we went for first. I think the supplies are supposed to go in the case, but our animal ended up in there as well.  I guess WB thought it was his carrying case.

Patient Care

~X-Ray: X-Ray is a science based activity. The idea is to take an “x-ray” of your hand and use the q-tips as bones.  This would be an awesome activity for a preschool class project.

X-Ray

Week #2 – Sticky

Week #2 : Sticky

~Masking Tape Ball: Masking tape ball works on fine motor skills and number recognition.  You are supposed to wrap the tape around the ball – sticky side up and then count how many times you can toss it back and forth without dropping it. WB has trouble with getting sticky things off his fingers so I am going to wait on this one for a few months.

Masking Tape Ball

~Big/Little: Big / Little focuses on math skills.  WB is fair good at identifying between big and little, but more practice is never a bad thing.

Big/Little

~Wikki Stix Bending: I think Wikki Stix are the coolest.  In this case they are used for letter recognition, but you can really use them for just abut anything.

Week #3 – Balloons

Week #3: Balloons

~Balloon Painting: Balloon painting is focuses on art, number recognition and fine motor skills.  I need to get some more paper and more balloons before we do this one because I KNOW that WB is going to want to do it a million times. It looks so fun!

Balloon Painting

~Static Electricity Butterfly: It took me a few different attempts at reading the directions before I “got” this.  It works on science and art and you are supposed to use the tissue paper to cut out wings to glue on to your paper, blow up the balloon and rub it on the carpet to create static electricity.  I ended up showing WB how static works with my hair ;).

Week #4: Sun

Week #4: Sun

~Wake Up Sun: Wake Up Sun focuses on early reading skills.  L can read these books all by himself (which he is quite proud of) so he read it the story to us!

Wake Up Sun

~Counting Sun Rays: Counting Sun rays is supposed to focus on number recognition, but in reality it focused on coloring for us.   I showed WB how to do one of them and we counted the rays together, but he was more interested in just flat out coloring.

Counting Sun Rays

~Sun Book: Sun Book is designed for letter recognition, but this is another one where WB just wanted to color on the sun.  He hasn’t started preschool yet but once he does I think he will be more into these.

Sun Book

I didn’t do a cost breakdown on this box, but it works out to less than $10 per week.  I was impressed with the creativity and materials included with this and feel like it’s a great supplement to preschool or a fabulous box for summertime!
