Cub Snacks August 2015 Subscription Box Review
Cub Snacks August 2015 Subscription Box

Cub Snacks is the first food project kit for kids that sends you every healthy ingredient you need, and more, to have fun creating seriously tasty treats.  All finished recipes are taste tested and kid approved prior to been launched.  Boxes are designed for kids 4-10 years of age, but WB (who is 3) and I worked on this one together without any problems at all.

The Box

Boxes ship via USPS and will be received on or before the 1st of every month.

First Look

This box was so heavy!  I had no idea what we were making, but I knew it included heavy ingredients.

The Information Card

The box includes the recipe for the month, some fun food facts along with some other information about Cub Snacks. This month’s recipe was “Nice N Crispy Bars”.

Chef Supplies

The box also included chef accessories – aprons and hats.  They include two of whatever they send which is nice.  We worked on this while L was at school, but WB was thrilled to put his on.

Ingredients

All of the ingredients are pre-measured and labeled.  I make L measure things out on his own now (he’s 7), but for WB (who is 3), this is perfect.  He is more into dumping things in and mixing than anything else.

Reading the Instructions

We started by reading the instructions.   In addition to the ingredients included in the box, we needed a mixing bowl, a spoon, a knife and a 12×9 tray – all things you’d have in the kitchen anyway. WB’s hat was a little big, so he had to take it off for the actual cooking.

Stirring

WB poured and mixed all of the dry ingredients (oats, rice puffs and raisins) while I got started on the other ingredients (chocolate drops, peanut butter and coconut mixture).

Melting

The wet ingredients needed to be melted in a saucepan so I handled that one on my own.  WB was perfectly content to mix the dry ingredients and then helped me when it was time to mix the wet ingredients in his dry ingredient mixture.

Read for the fridge

I found these easier to mix / deal with than say rice crispy treats. It was easy to spread in the pan and I thought the tips from Cub Snacks about using baking paper and and running it under cold water to help it fit to the tray were great.

All Done

Per the instructions we popped our Nice N Crispy bars in the fridge for a few hours and then give them a try!  They were pretty darn good and WB and I had a great time making them together. I will say though, this is not a money saving subscription by any means. It’s for sure more of an experience / convenience subscription.
