BOXWALLA Food Box April 2016 Subscription Box Review

Boxwalla Food Box ships bi-monthly via USPS. Boxwalla boxes are made in India from tree-free handmade paper. The boxes are made out of cotton scraps, using the traditional art of paper-making that involves nine steps and takes several weeks. The handmade paper is then meticulously fashioned into the boxes that the goodies get shipped in.

The June 2016 Boxwalla Food Box theme was “The Wandering Woman” and included the following items:

~Treehouse Chocolate Co. Cherrywood Drinking Chocolate ($6): This “drinking chocolate” featured cherrywood along with sea salt. I have only ever had this hot before, but I am thinking it’d be pretty good cold as well?  Maybe in a milkshake?

~McCrea’s Caramels Flavor Family ($15.95): OMG!  These are incredible.  The flavor family pack includes the following flavors: Dark Roasted Mocha, Ginger Fusion, Rosemary Truffle Sea Salt, Highland Scotch, Black Lava Sea Salt, Tapped Maple, Cape Cod Sea Salt, Classic Vanilla, Deep Chocolate.   They are all incredible, but my favorite is the Classic Vanilla.

~Primo Berry Pasilla Preserves ($9): This is a blend of vine-ripened berries and flavorful Pasilla chiles.  It is recommended with brie and other soft cheeses.  Very yummy!

~Brooklyn Delhi Tomato Achaar ($8.75): This is an Indian Tomato Relish made with locally-grown tomatoes, tamarind, a mix of Indian spices, red chili powder, unrefined cane sugar and sesame oil.  I don’t love it.  I think there is just too much going on.  Although, the website does suggest mixing it with guacamole to go into chips, which would make even more going on, but in a better way in my opinion.

~Auria’s Lime Leaf Sambal ($9.99): Now this I am totally not sure about! It’s made from 100% all-natural ingredients and is produced in small batches in NYC.  It’s a blend of Makrut Lime, green peppers and garlic.  Like the relish above, I think this might be better mixed with something.

All totaled I came up with a value of $49.69 for the August 2016 Boxwalla Food Box.  That’s just about the cost of the box, but it included so many new (to us) items and items I haven’t seen locally!

What do you think of Boxwalla Food Box?  If you are interested in subscribing, you can check them out here. Your first shipment will begin with the August box.
