Koala Crate is from Kiwi Crate’s line of crates and is designed for preschoolers ages 3-4. The box includes all the materials and inspiration for projects related to a theme such as colors, transportation or safari. Crates are designed to give children exposure to new materials and new concepts that encourage hands-on learning and fun.
Koala Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and usually takes about a week to arrive to me.
It was a rainy day here yesterday so I pulled out the Koala Crate for a little afternoon entertainment.
The August 2016 Koala Crate theme was “wild west” and included three projects – “bandana”, “horseshoe toss” and “hobby horse”.
Project #1 – Bandana
For “bandana” subscribers were provided materials to paint their bandana with a handmade horseshoe stamp. This project was high on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved creating and moving – fine.
It took us a while to get a hang of the stamp. It didn’t hold paint well so we would end up with either too much paint on it or not enough. And just a warning if you haven’t done this yet – the paint does bleed through the banana, so put something under this when working on this project.
Project #2 – Horseshoe Toss
The second project in the crate was “horseshoe toss”. This project was high on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved moving – gross and exploring.
After stamping the bag with our horseshoe stamp (and after waiting for it to dry) we filled our bags up with the included beads. I forgot to take a picture of the actual bean bag tossing, but let’s just say that none of us have good aim!
Project #3 – Hobby Horse
The final project (and the one my boys were most excited about) was to make your own hobby horse. It was low on the messiness scale and high on the grownup involvement scale. It involved moving – fine and moving – gross.
The information card was right, this was high on the grownup involvement scale. The kids put the stickers (the eyes, nose, etc.) on, but I did the rest. It was a hit though!
imagine! Magazine
As usual, the box also contained an “imagine!” magazine. It has puzzles, stories, games and other project idea relating to this month’s theme.
