Smile Create Repeat is a monthly subscription service providing quality art supplies and ideas delivered right to your door. Each month in your themed Smile Create Repeat box, you will receive 5+ quality art supplies chosen and tested by artists-illustrators, our creativity card, and additional surprises, delivered right to your door.  Boxes are not age specific and generally can be enjoyed by all ages – with younger artists needing more assistance.

Smile Create Repeat ships via USPS.  Boxes are shipped on the 24th of each month and arrive in under a week.

Smile Create Repeat turns two this month and is offering a few fun downloads to celebrate.

The September Smile Create Repeat was drawing theme and included an assortment of tools to help you explore a few techniques.

Materials

The September box included the following materials:
~Tombow Mono Professional Drawing Pencil H
~Pentel Graph Gear 500 Pencil
~Pentel Hi-Polymer Colored Led
~Bic Crystal
~Alvin Vinyl Eraser
~Strathmore 400 Series Colored Pencil Paper

I was a little intimidated by this project (mainly because I cannot draw), but I decided just to have fun with it.  I did watch the September YouTube video showing the techniques used which I found beyond helpful.

~Tombow Mono Professional Drawing Pencil H: This pencil was my favorite of the supplies and was very user-friendly.  The video showed the techniques of shading, shadows, adding light to your pear (via the eraser) and more.  It also was helpful to be able to see how the artist held the pencil for these techniques.  Had I done it on my own I would have certainly done it incorrectly.

~Pentel Hi-Polymer Colored Led: I started using this pencil as it was sent, but realized that the led should have been blue and I needed to swap it out with the replacement led that arrived in the box.  Oops! This was much more of a pencil than the first one we used, and I got much sharper lines from it.

~Bic Crystal: Out of all of the materials the pen scared me the most because I wouldn’t be able to use the eraser when I messed up!  But I went for it and didn’t hate the results. The more pressure you use with the pen, the darker the line. It took a while to adjust for shading, but I got the hang of it.

~Bonus Item: You first box includes a Smile Crate Repeat pencil and gives you details on how to share your creations online.

I had a great time with the September Smile Create Repeat box, and it took me outside of my comfortable zone art-wise (which is good).
