The January 2017 Tinker Crate theme was “Slime” and included four projects “Glow Super Slime,” “Play Putty,” “Glow Bouncy Ball” and “Glow Creepy Critters.”

L, my 8-year-old, and I worked on this one together. He was very excited when he saw the theme and couldn’t wait to start.

Project #1 – Glow Super Slime

This project used borax, glue and glow powder to made your own glow super slime.

It worked! We have made slime with Borax before, but I don’t think we’ve ever made it glow in the dark. It was extra wet/slimy, but after kneading it for a while, it turned out perfect.

Project #2 – Play Putty

Play Putty is made by combing borax, glue, cornstarch and water.

I think Play Putty turned out the best of all of the items we made. We haven’t done it yet, but we are going to try and use a washable marker on paper and try to transfer a drawing to the putty!

Project #3 – Glow Bouncy Ball

The glow bouncy ball was a mixture of borax, glue, cornstarch, water, liquid watercolor and glow powder.

It actually bounced! We were shocked. L and I thought nope, no way, this will not work. But it did. It’s not the prettiest ball, and it does flatten out when it sits untouched, but it bounces!

Project #4 Glow Creepy Critters

Glow Creepy Critters used the recipe for the glow bouncy ball. I think we did slightly better with this one, though. We added less water which made the ball seem somewhat firmer, and it bounced even higher.

Cute! We left this out overnight, and it turned quite hard. I suppose that’s to be expected, though?
