Basement Love

So I hear that not everyone has basements. I think I talked about it once before on my blog, but I am still in shock. I guess I understand why people don’t have them (flooding, etc.), but let me tell you, you are missing out.

We had a basement in the house I grew up in and we spent hours and hours playing down there. It wasn’t finished (i.e. it didn’t have drywall – just cement walls) but us kids never cared! It’s perfect because it’s out of the way and you don’t have to clean it up every day. Although I do anyways unless L wants to leave something out because I can’t stand a mess.

Our basement was finished (at our request) when we moved in and it’s one thing I’d totally recommend doing. We have a 1/2 bathroom down there too. It’s basically another living space down there (even though basements are never included in the square footage of your house). We play down there on way too hot summer days and it’s even better in the winter when you need to rid get of some extra energy! Lots of space to run around!

We do have a separate unfinished area in the basement for storage (without this, where would I store my 15,378 holiday storage bins?) and a theatre room. Not like the theatre rooms on cribs. Just a room with couches and a projector.

When L is older, we’ll turn the space into a game room with a pool table, etc. A place for L and his friends to hang out. And be loud!

Do you have a basement? If not, tell me where you store everything?? Our garage just cannot handle all the crap we own!

L made that painting himself...
We use every bit of space possible
A full view.
New IKEA bookcases. I totally love them.
Doors to the theatre room.
Inside the theatre room. No fancy theatre seats here. But those may be the most comfortable couches on earth. I have had them for 11 years, which is forever for me.

Spread the love
