This weekend we all got up SUPER early (I’m talking 5am early) to go downtown for the Detroit Marathon. I haven’t been to the marathon since I was a little kid (my Dad used to run it), so it was fun to go downtown and check out the excitement. A few of my cousins were running the half marathon, while my younger cousins were running the 5K. I was in charge of the younger ones since the half marathon started before the 5K and they all would be finishing way after the 5K was done. You can’t just leave kids wandering the streets of Detroit now can you? My brother was nice enough to run the race with the kids (who are 9 and 11 and did awesome in the race by the way!), because we can’t just be losing someone else’s kids in the city. While they raced, we went for a ride on the choo-choo train (aka The People Mover), which L loved. If you’ve ever been to Detroit, you likely have NOT ridden The People Mover. Why? Well, because it doesn’t really go to many places. It’s often easier just to walk. But if L loves it, then so do I!
We got off the train and walked over to the end of the 5K just in time to see the crew finish up! It worked out perfect. After the race, we all headed back to my house and L had a fabulous time playing with the big kids. He was so sad when it was time for them to get picked up (*) and go home. I am hoping we can all do it again next year. I know L is totally looking forward to it!
